My prayer to the RNG gods was answered with Haller winning a sprint by making sure he didn't have any leadout and looking to be too far back with 1.5km to go!
1 min gap is a bit weird.

Well 5th isn't too bad from Jakobsen although I'd hope for more given our efforts chasing and leading out but we are rewarded in a different way.
Not uncommon to see gaps in sprints and they grow quickly given it's wheel of stage winner to wheel of first rider after the gap.
A 44 second gap likely won't be enough to hold on in the TTT but it's certainly a nice lead to have for the time being and hopefully means a solid GC at the end of it all!! 50k rider  @Sotd

I had almost gotten used to nice sprints from the Vuelta At least Stallaert participates, maybe he'll have better luck next time. Congrats D2B!

Well done on the stage win, Haller. Not the sprinter you would expect to win here. Congratulations!
And wow, what a stage that was for Aramco and Thomas  That's the perfect GC position for him, and it could be difficult for anyone to beat him, as the TTT normally doesn't give that big gaps when being quite short.
It's probably too much to ask from the AI, but I really hope we don't get similar stuff on the upcoming flat stages, as it feels very random |

Nice 2nd from Bennett. His job now is not to get in the way of the time trial team! Hoping Downey can hold on to a top 10 at least...harsh losing 3rd in GC to a sprinter time gap

Little bit of an improvement for Stallaert, getting even a point now! Still riding too close to the front though. Ewan may be able to sustain that for a Top 5 (not 0 for 3 on that front after all!), Stallaert certainly can't. Congrats to Assa Abloy and Guarnieri!

Some interesting stages with a rather underwhelming opening TT and then a couple of decent results in the sprints. Thomas taking the best part of a minute on the GC favourites puts a spanner in the works for the others but the TTT and epilogue should mean he doesn't win overall.
For us its a matter of doing better than the preview suggests in the TTT and doing well in the last stage.

Would have hoped for maybe 5 or so seconds less of a deficit on that stage, but I suppose you can't expect that much more with that squad. 16 seconds to the Top 10 for Fiedler, I'm not sure that's doable on 8.5 kilometers. But we'll see, I hope he'll have another good day like on stage 1. But first, maybe another Top 8 by Stallaert? Let's hope so!

Just not what we expected from this Tour so far. Maksimov sprinting to 62nd definitely not making us happy, and with only a short tt on the programme (and another 'sprint' I fear we won't be scoring close to what we hoped for and what even could be realistically expected. Zmorka is free to prove me wrong.

Great win! Very happy to see us pull through and make use of the seven riders strong team present 
Also promising positions GC wise for both Lammertink and Norman, eventhough the GC win is out of the window for Lammertink and the other TTers "up there", as Aramco defended very well, making this Thomas' race to loose with only 8,5 kilometers left of TTing.
Fingers crossed we get all GC contenders safe through the final sprint stage, setting up the epilogue nicely with everything to play for in the GC battle from 2nd place and below. |

Not the best TTT from us but we have a bunch of sprinters here so that’s not surprising.
But we’ve done the job we needed to do and kept Thomas in Yellow which is all we could do really.
Just need to navigate tomorrow safely and then it’s up to Thomas to avoid disaster on the final stage.
