GP Wallonie - Preview
Welcome back to Belgium for the first of the PT Hilly Classics! Tomorrow we will see the riders make their way through the Hills of Wallonia. You'd have to expect the top Puncheurs in the PT and PCT divisions would be present here as it is a PTHC class race.
Unlike many other Belgian races included in the World Calendar, the GP Wallonie has a rather limited history with only 2 previous editions making this the 3rd year in a row that the Professional Peloton will make their way to Wallonia. Those riders who have had success here in the last 2 years are the pure puncheurs. Last year's winner, Kwiatkowski, is fresh off winning the Tour de Pologne and will be looking to bring that form into this one but it won't be easy...
| 1st | 2nd | 3rd | 2020 | Kwiatkowski | Bobridge | Koretzky | 2019 | Claeys | Kinoshita | Di Maggio |
Below you will find a list of the top Puncheurs in all of the 24 teams in this race. It's clear to see we have many of the World's top riders present on the start line here which will no doubt make for an entertaining race.
It also makes it a very tough one to predict. If it comes down to a sprint between a group of the top puncheurs then you'd probably put your money on Sagan, Lutsenko, Ponzi (who does have the strong support of Muller and Reichenbach) or Simon Yates if it isn't too selective.
However, putting your money against the likes of Lopez, Skujins, Kinoshita, Kelderman or Kwiatkowski would very much be at your own risk. There is a lot of strength amongst these riders as well as those not mentioned that will no doubt mean attacks and some opportunistic riding from those Tier 2 leaders.

Another one of these pesky hilly classics that we don't have a guy for. Aranburu has no shot to do anything with this profile. I probably should have just saved him for a mountain stage. The game even lists Trentin as our leader.
Thanks for the preview!

First goal race of the season! Kelderman 'should' be a shoe-in to get that Top 10 goal for us but then again he should've done a lot of things for us already. Well, fingers crossed.
Thanks for the preview LLS!

Feeling nervous about this one, hope we are one of the lucky ones and Jensen can do something good here.
Thanks for the preview

Yeah, goodbye awesome PPRD. The hills are too short for De Plus, so any points would be good here.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Not really a fan of this race. I just hope we do better than last year.
Thanks for the preview LLS

Koretzky did amazing here last season, but we can’t expect anything similar. A result between 5-10 would be desirable and then Aidan need to start showing up a bit.

Definately can’t complain with 4th here.
An impressive amount of wins and podium results from Isostars leaders this season. Congrats!
Aidan Van Niekerk not even in top 100… I sure have wasted too much money in that training. Ouch!

Predictably nothing in the cards for us. A couple of guys in the break. Aranburu not in the picture at all in 124th. I really made a mistake sending him to any of these hilly races. I guess I wasn't willing to accept so many completely pointless race days, but that's what he's giving us anyway. He would have been much more useful as a lieutenant for Guldhammer elsewhere.
Congrats to Croatia on another victory! Nice to see Skuijns doing better for Tyrg, and another strong effort for Cedevita with Gaudu stepping up.
Thanks for the report!

Great job Formolo! His well timed attack surprised many favorites who were still behind their domestiques. Only Lutsenko was strong enough to still burst past him. Congrats Croatia!

No idea what PCM AI is smoking... Moscon takes a day off, and Thièry instead takes 16th, which is really ridiculous. I'll take it, though, as it's the only thing to take out of this race.
Congrats to Isostar, I guess Phinney's GP Liechtenstein is still their biggest "failure" this year so far - no way past the Men in Lime this year apparently.

Lopez with some terrible positioning. Hopefully he will race smarter in the tougher hilly classics later on.

All the big riders so badly positioned with a wall of domestiqies in front at the 1k banner. A shame no attacks could stick, it it seems a lot harder this year for there to be gaps in races like this.
Can’t really complain about Jensen, as disappointing as most other teams here. Luchshenko though, I nearly though he’d beat his (almost) namesake here for a minute awesome to finish in the top-10 here, especially after doing so much work. Congrats to isostar, it seems impossible for them to lose a race this year.
Thanks a million for the report!

Sorry for missing out on the preview. Thank you for both the preview and the report! Tense and wide open race, congratulations on the win, Croatia!
From our view, that wasn't a race to remember. Poor positioning and poor execution. A really bad day for Kwiatkowski.
We'll need to move on! |

David Gaudu?!
First I thought maybe we got some funky co-leadership with him and Beltran. But looking at some of the other results on other teams, it was some weird day where the domestiques did better than some leaders.
12th from Beltran is perfectly fine and in line with my expectations, especially when you consider he was 32nd here last year. But Gaudu in 8th is pretty crazy and unexpected, but I love that he gets a moment where he shines He and Beltran have been an awesome combo so far
I feel bad for Abhi and Wilco. Usually an attack is always a good sign and this was a good race for Wilco, but there were too many riders left to chase him down
At least the favourite Lutsenko in my opinion won, congrats Croatia
Thanks for the report Nemo
