Barbados Cycling Festival
The race itself has seen little to no change over the last 4 years other than moving between the divisions. The race has always gone to one of the Top Sprinters so there shouldn't be any reason for this to change this year.
Podium History
| 1st | 2nd | 3rd | 2020 | Vesely | Manninen | Boeckmans | 2019 | Ahlstrand | Degenkolb | Kennaugh | 2018 | Guerao | Guarnieri | Cavendish | 2017 | Cavendish | Guerao | Goss |
2021 Favourites
The first thing to note is that almost every team has brought along a top sprinter in the hopes of getting something from this race. Ewan (Podium Ambition) stands out as the top favourite. Others who would be expected to be fighting for the win are the likes of Howard (Indosat), Zabel (Kraftwerk), Saber (Cedevita), Manninen (Los Pollos) and, last year's winner, Vesely (Minions).
There are also a number of top sprinters who, other than fighting for the win, will be expected to be up there in the U25 classification. The top riders for the future here are Jakobsen (Aramco), Halvorsen (Red Bull) & Cullaigh (cycleYorkshire).
Team | First name | Last name | FLA | REC | SPR | ACC | | Caleb | Ewan | 75 | 80 | 83 | 81 | | Oscar | Guerao | 73 | 80 | 82 | 75 | | Leigh | Howard | 76 | 79 | 82 | 79 | | Rick | Zabel | 74 | 79 | 81 | 79 | | Asbjorn | Kragh Andersen | 77 | 78 | 81 | 77 | | Lahcen | Saber | 75 | 78 | 81 | 79 | | Matti | Manninen | 74 | 77 | 81 | 80 | | Daniel | Vesely | 73 | 76 | 81 | 80 | | Fabio | Jakobsen | 74 | 81 | 80 | 80 | | Kristoffer | Halvorsen | 76 | 80 | 80 | 80 | | Jiankun | Liu | 74 | 80 | 80 | 80 | | Tom | Van Asbroeck | 75 | 79 | 80 | 78 | | Jacopo | Guarnieri | 74 | 78 | 80 | 78 | | Gabriel | Cullaigh | 73 | 78 | 80 | 81 | | Fabio | Silvestre | 78 | 74 | 80 | 81 | | Niccolo | Bonifazio | 79 | 71 | 80 | 80 | | Elias | Afewerki | 73 | 81 | 79 | 80 | | Guillaume | Boivin | 74 | 79 | 79 | 80 | | Kris | Boeckmans | 71 | 76 | 79 | 80 | | Kenji | Itami | 74 | 76 | 79 | 81 | | Matteo | Pelucchi | 74 | 75 | 79 | 77 | | Roman | Lutsyshyn | 70 | 74 | 79 | 80 |
Late-Stage Threats
Of course, we all expect that one of the above-listed riders will win each of the stages and the GC, but there are riders who are particularly strong on the flats and rather aggressive. Below is a list of such riders who may be worth keeping an eye on.
Team | First name | Last name | FLA | SPR | ACC | FTR | | Marildo | Yzeiraj | 77 | 62 | 71 | 85 | | Yudai | Arashiro | 81 | 70 | 75 | 78 | | Elia | Viviani | 78 | 71 | 70 | 73 | | Lasse Norman | Hansen | 77 | 73 | 80 | 72 | | Lars | Van der Haar | 77 | 72 | 70 | 76 | | Dries | De Bondt | 76 | 74 | 76 | 76 | | Mihkel | Räim | 74 | 76 | 75 | 76 | | Vegard | Breen | 77 | 73 | 72 | 74 |

1 of only 2 HC races for us this season so we have high hopes of a CT upset!
Jakobsen definitely has the quality and the back-up stats to put up a good fight and hopefully he's up there at the pointy end in the finale of all stages.
Good luck to all!

That was some quick (and nice) work by LLS, thanks for that! Shame on you for not adding Quispe to that final table though
I´d gladly take a repeat of last year for Manninen. Looking forward to the reports!

Hopefully the more dev filled squad I brought doesn't hurt Saber too badly. I would take the place he's on that list as a final result right now
Thanks for the preview LLS

Big test for Halvorgoat, half of his performances so far been very encouraging, as long we get some top 5s we should be laughing

First real test for Boivin. Of course, that's a tough field, but despite that seeing how my leaders fared so far this season I hold no illusions what so ever.
Thanks for the preview and good luck to all! |

Yet another massive race for the team, although this time pretty much entirely for non-racing reasons. Big importance to our sponsors to keep a local race on the calendar, and you'll see the roads lined deep with passionate fans and liberal helpings of Mount Gay branding, amongst other local financial supporters
On the racing side, this race hates us! Ewan is here to probably operate as worlds best leadout yet again. Aberasturi & Alaphilippe are on major support duty, and thus far have had mixed results in this aspect.
Darren Matthews & Kristin Vanderpool representing the host nation and the former rocking the NC jersey and best chance of a local result.
Because of our torrid results in previous years i would actually be happy with a single Stage Win & Top10 GC. A good race would be competing repeatedly for Stages & GC win.

Big race for us as well. We really need Silvestre to perform in these types of races. He's ridden one race so far this season and won it, which I don't expect to repeat here, but considering his skill set, I want a Top 5 here. Would be a huge step to build on our early success and to give us more security. Very excited for the reports, and thanks for the preview LLS!

Interested to see what TVA can do in a packed sprint field. Not the greatest expectations from this race. Just hoping for a couple of high placings and consistency.
Thanks for the preview roturn!

We come with a bunch of rouleurs, but seeing how flat stages, not flat one day races, have played out so far this season, I can not have any expectations. I fear we will not try to break away in the finishing kilometers, but I must admit I hope I am wrong. At least we should have a goal of being in every breakaway there is. I mean, if we do not do that, what are we even here for?
Looking forward to the racing and seeing how the sprinters fare and fight for the race win! |

Obviously a super packed sprint field here, which was expected. We have AKA (supported by Lander). He's done quite well so far this year, including some surprisingly great results in stacked fields. Still, we're not going to fall into the trap of getting used to that. With the sprint lottery, anything can happen. AKA was and still is in that grey area where he could end up anywhere depending on what the game prioritizes.
We want to do well enough on a stage or two to grab some minor GC points in the end. I think that's the goal. Zero pointer or close to it would be a failure, but there's a bunch of guys who should outperform us on paper, and that's okay.
Thanks for the preview LLS!

Guerao sitting on the 2nd place on favourite´s list sounds like a good joke to me. Honestly, contesting in sprints here and there is everything I can ask him for. I´d wish to be wrong!
Thanks for the preview.

Similar thinking for us TMM. I’ll be glad if Howard can get a single podium or finish top-10 GC. As far as I’m concerned having a top sprinter in a race like this is a death sentence. Can’t wait to set up trains every stage only to let Howard sprint with over a Km left
Expect Mannien, Halvorsen, Vesley and Silvestrw to share the stage victories.
Thanks for the preview!

Thank you for the report! An interesting finale in the end with the trains.
Happy to see my team try form a train but Thijssen lacks the real strength compared to our rivals and Thomas would be good early in a lead-out but not as the main man before our leader. Either way, 8th isn’t a bad result from Jakobsen although we hope for more in the stages to come!

Quite happy with 9th, meaning we'll probably get that minor GC result we wanted!

Here is where the season starts and it isn't great. But not unexpected either.
Hopefully the next stages are a bit better.
