How do you miss the start?
Also I feel really sorry for Simon Dalby who initated attack after attack in the final 40km, only to see a french guy crash in a completely undangerous spot with 6km to go when Hagenes and Gregoire made the final move. He was easily the 2nd-3rd strongest in the group, and would likely have taken a medal - although Hagenes was untouchable.
Earlier in the stage Junior TT champion Gustav Wang also had bad luck. Not Uijtdebroeks bad luck, but still.
Only 2 of the 10 riders aged 16 finished the race with estonian Romet Pajur in 11th easily the best. A total of 3 estonian riders made the front group and took bronze. Quite an achievement!

Given it's an hour, wrong time zone on their clocks? Weirdly this would be the most understandable mix-up, as anything else is just knowing the right time and being un-organised.
Never forget Pedro Delgado! Missing the Tour start (as in start of the Prologue!) by 2mins40

Hopefully Uno-X sign Hagenes for his early development days. Seems to fit in their riding style.
Surprised to see Antonio Morgado finishing inside the top-10, this wasn’t a course that suited him and despite being the most dominant rider on the junior Iberian ranks, he has rarely raced at this level this year. Hope this is the start of a good career. |

Hagenes already signed for Jumbo's Development team. He comes from Cross-Country skiing by the way, as did Carl-Frederik Hagen.

Ah well. Guess the big guns of the World Tour clearly set their eyes on him after his convincing performances this year. |

Already a crash in the neutral zone, I think they'll all get back though.
But it was fun, I saw Nys taking it easy at the start. Also cheered for Florian Vermeersch (who really deserves a break after being forced to sign for Xero).
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

So bummed for Emil Herzog this morning. Got robbed of an ITT spot and crashed in the RR after looking great all race.
A first sign of the cio curse.

This is some good racing. I really like this track with lesser known hills.

That last climb could be decisive for the men’s race as well. Typical short effort where someone breaks away and everyone starts looking at each other behind.
Big day for African cycling - Ghirmay is a gem. Would have been epic seeing him win.
Also want to highlight the positive race from the Portuguese team, clearly doing what they had to show themselves in such an unsuitable race. Quite impressed with Fábio Costa as he is not regarded as an amazing talent, even in the U23 national ranks. Hope to see the same posture in the elites.
Plus nice seeing Vinicius Rangel on the top-10. Brazilian cycling really needs a boost and this guy could get up to the pro ranks quite soon, he has been very strong and quite dominant in the Spanish amateur calendar. |

Magnus Bäckstedt will be a very proud father today!
Women's race should be interesting as well, still I can see anyone beat the dutch.

Already signed for Movistar from what I've heard

Yep, seems likely to join Movistar. Interesting to see how he adapts to the World Tour.
Anna Henderson looks so sharp today, is she riding for Deignan or just really for herself? |

Should have read my preview post, she's going to be GB's best hope today. A really well suited course for her, but only if she can get into a slightly reduced group. Anna's not quite on par with the very best yet.
Whereas Deignan is strong, but could do with slightly longer climbs or a very hard race to get into a 3-4 person winning move to work from.
As a duo it's strong-ish and means GB should be there towards the finish.
