[PT] Evonik - ELKO | 2021
Fabianski
Well, that's quite a change of identity for your team - you suddenly have an (ex-) world class TTer Shock

Pre-transfers, I had tiny hopes to get Rein, but well, 3M is just... crazy. Will definitely be fun following your team, which suddenly will have a great outside shot at stage race wins and therefore big points! Given the transfers so far, I'm not sure if it's already enough to challenge Isostar, though Wink

ember - Thanks Grin
I'm thinking the same - he underperformed his expectations last year quite a bit due to breakaways being too strong in that Giro. The further decline of course weakens him so what was disappointing in 2020, can be the expectations in 2021.

Fabianski - I fully agree that 3M for a 34 year old is utterly insane. But i thought it was a fun move to do so when my top targets were either made unavailable after 1,5 days of transfer or focussed in on a certain other deal that apparently couldnt be overbid without losing Lopez. So i decided to yolo my money to ember to get a rider that i have pursued for at least five years without success Pfft

Also he is a climber/stage racer. Please dont use the T word in this thread

I'm looking forward to watching the two of you fight for the title again from a safe distance! Grin

So far I've lost three PT quality leaders and have added one and you already surrender?

Oh no, I'm enjoying my situation very much! I'm happy where my team is, and I do like watching great managers plan for success or rebuilds.

I believe you can recover plenty of points lost with your planning abilities and just a bit of luck, and I'm simply looking forward to how that will translate on the road and against very intriguing changes at Isostar.

Quite a few compliments in such a short text - thanks a lot! Grin

I'm not sure how well those planning skills translate to a game i've never played, never seen in action and never planned for. The last time we've changed the game, i had by far the worst season since promoting to PT. That could happen again.

If it helps ease your mind:
I have 572 hours in the game and it still puzzles me as much as on day 1. Pfft

With so much experience, surely you and Croatia are the favourites for the title, right? I can be the likable underdog ... Pfft

3M for a 34 y.o. rider is a very risky move - hopefully it works fine for you.

BTW, take good care of Nava Wink

it absolutely is a very risky move but it has a high potential reward too. And sometimes you have to take some risks and shake things up Pfft

Loanee #2

We are excited to announce our second loanee for the upcoming season. Stephen Williams is a strong climber who is contracted with cycleYorkshire. He likes the longest climbs the most and has a strong engine on those climbs. This will be particular important to us as he will be a very important part of the climbing support for Rein Taaramae. He also has a good skill set for an attacking climber but whether he gets the freedom to do so during the season will be seen. We are glad that he and his manager chose our team to help his development.

Loanee #3

We are glad to see another loanee join our team. Jan Xandri joins us from Indosat Ooredoo for the upcoming season. Xandri is an aspiring stage racer and one of the most promising talents from the small nation of Andorra. His main strength can be found in longer climbs but he can also do a decent job on short climbs and in time trials. His season will largely consist of offering climbing support for our two stage race leaders Rein Taaramäe and William Chiarello. Welcome Jan!

End Of An Era II

After the sale of Toms Skujins, Evonik - ELKO has further prominent departures to announce:

1. Ever since the team was started, Evonik relied strongly on the presence and the scoring of a hilly sprinter. First it was Simon Geschke and after promotion to PT, a lot of rescources were invested into the acquisition and training of Michael Van Stayen. His stay with us will be remembered for an almost legendary feud with Puma's Arnaud Demare as well as his outstanding success - most notably winning Milan - San Remo in 2017 and ending with the green jersey in last year's Tour de France. Michael Van Stayen leaves the team to join Carrefour - ESPN for their PCT campaign.

2. Adam Blythe joined us as our leader for the cobbles ahead of the 2019 season as the successor to legends Tom Boonen and Greg Van Avermaet. The cobbled monuments have always been of huge importance of Evonik - usually as sponsor goals on top of their prestige - but only Blythe achieved last year what Evonik were lusting after for years: Winning Paris - Roubaix. For that he will be forever remembered within our team. He will return home and ride for Eurosport x GCN in PCT next year.

3. Andrei Sakalou arrived during the 2018 offseason as a bargain rider. He never received as much hype as others within the squad but was a valued and loyal domestique for our hills squad and showed our team color in mountain breaks regularly. He joins BWT Hyundai N Cycling in the CT.

Excited to see if Van Stayen can keep his legendary career going for us for a few more years. Also random but those are some quality loanees honestly, nice pickups!

Same here. I hope that the first decline wont show too much on the road and look forward to see him crush the pct peloton Grin

Thanks for noticing the loanees. I think i have managed to collect an awesome group of loan deals this year. Really excited to see them in action. They should play a big role in any success Taaramae might or might not enjoy this season.

Baltic Diversity

After buying Taaramae, we can announce that we have bought a second veteran from the Baltics with lots of experience. Ramunas Navardauskas joins us as part of the Sakalou deal from BWT Hyundai N Cycling. The 33 year old Lithuanian is super excited to be part of the succesful team close to his home.

Navardauskas was a pre-transfers target for Evonik as he fills a bit of a hole on our roster: A puncheur that is better as a rouleur than as a climber. The added diversity amongst the support riders will help us protect our hills leader Miguel Angel Lopez as well as possible. While his acceleration is not the quickest in the peloton, his top speed is still dangerous if he gets into a sprint from a breakaway group. He also is a decent prologue rider.

I see you're planning to Rein supreme this season Pfft

Big outgoings, but incomings should be enough to challenge at the top again. Looking forward to witnessing the transformation!

Yeah, sure, because the T-word is forbidden in that thread Pfft Good fit for your team nonetheless!
