Commiserations to knockout... We all know PCM's AI is dumb, but I never thought it could be soooo dumb to sacrifice Lopez (and the rest of the team) to try to defend that jersey. I guess the title fight is definitely over now, Phinney can't lose that one anymore! Congrats!

Damn son, what a team effort to make the race as hard as possible. Awesome work by our team, great show by Phinney. That's what I'm talking about!

1 point. Hurray...
Zoidl might make 30th if he rides the TT of his life. Everyone else is just for min. points....

Disappointing
Despite the S1 madness, this race will end much worse than what i originally hoped for as Isostar will score huge while i will score less GC points than expected due to Lopez dropping.
Phinney just sealed the ProTour win once and for all as even a Evonik 1-2 result in Lombardia wouldnt be able to close the gap Phinney will create with the GC victory here. Congrats Cro, this time for real!
Maybe the stage 1 win was PCM taunting me?

I like to complain about the AI a lot but i would have done 100% the same thing here. Lopez winning the stage would not have changed our situation enough after he was dropped way too early in the echelons on S1. Our only hope of getting a showdown for the title in Lombardia would have been to lead Riesebeek into a podium finish or hope for a Phinney disappointment. And i definitely take the slim chance at the title over solid chances at the stage win when it basically removes the last hope at the title. Based on other races this season it could have worked out as many yellow jersey wearers looked way too OP afterwards, particularly with strong puncheurs like Lopez protecting him. Certainly didnt expect him to lose far more time than his fellow break riders like Goldstein or Christensen who are definitely worse riders on a day like this.
I'd even say the opposite and say that unexpectedly good AI in terms of the other teams costs us here as teams have realized that they needed to chase early and hard to drop those S1 breakees
In the end, this race isnt where we lost the title. We lost it beforehand in lots of races where we didnt show up as strong as one should have expected. Notable especially the hilly classics.
A Big Thank You To All MG Reporters!

Wow that was first stage was carnage and stage two certainly wasn't boring either. Kangert did quite well in both, curious where he can end up in GC.
The rest of the team kinda lost too much time, but some of them should be able to at least grab a GC top 50.

All year long I complain about us not going for KoM jerseys, and in the final stage race of the season, Sasu Helme shows up and delivers us just that!
And even better, as a loanee he's the perfect rider to take it in this lineup as he bags us points that don't come back to haunt us during renewals.
Helme also did a great job hanging on to a good place on the stage itself, albeit he sadly can't convert that into a good GC after yesterday.
From our GC hopefuls, Vasyliv kept up with the main group, but needs a strong TT to make the Top 30, while Niu just got distanced at the end and will fight for a Top 50.
None of that would be worth mentioning on its own, so I'm really happy Helme could save the race for us and guarantee third place beyond any doubt!

No single rider in the stage top 100... Not that this was really expected despite Stuyven with 77 hill could surely be able to top50 at least.
But if the team is that weak GC wise, they really should have gone into the break.
Sagan beasting it again. Congrats. |

Phinney doing Phinney things, what a man. Awesome result for us, terrific display of strength on stages 2 and 3. Thanks for all the great reports!

Rather disappointing TT results, had hoped for our guys to somehow defend the team's classification (which wasn't an easy task, to be fair). On the other hand, Christensen didn't drop as low as I feared prior to the TT. So a 4th place and 7th place in the GC is a nice result, even though we missed our usual podium here
Hurts a little bit to lose both the U25 and team's lead on that final day, but to be honest, this first stage with Christensen lifting himself to an unexpected stage result plus GC result, is lucky enough for us. Bobridge kinda rode himself onto that 4th place, but I don't know how he did so. The key stages didn't really deliver too notable results for him
Probably too less for us to finally achieve a Top-10 in the PT.. Would have needed a huge Bobridge and a surprising breakaway rider at the same time anyway. .
Thanks for the reports!

Vlatos also with a no show. Considering we brought a Stage favorite/outsider for each stage, gerning 7th from Vlatos as the best result is very dissapointing.
Zoidl 35th a bit lower than expected too. Koretzky with a horrible TT, y’et he survived the top 20, which is the best thing I can take from this bad race.
One last chance to avoid a drop in the PT rankings.

Good ride by Würtz! Phinney always seems to have something left towards the end of a TT, so congrats to Croatia on a great win, both the stage and GC.
11th for Würtz in GC is really solid for a rider like him, so happy with that. Now to round of the season in somewhat style in Lombardia

Overall a decent result for Gazelle with 15th for 33 year old Kangert being the highlight.
Phinney is a beast now; congrats Isostar

Sorry for not being able to post during the race. Have been offline and away for the whole weekend, and catching up now. Unfortunately a bad race for us and Kwiatkowski. Caught behind on stage 1, missed the split on stage 2, and an anonymous TT on stage 3 makes for a no show here. It seals the deal, as it definitely puts us in the relegation zone for good this season.
Big congratulations to Spilak! This surely seals the title, very, very well done |

Vanderbiest to be loaded onto the next low-grav flight with Richard Branson to be shot into the sun we can hope. Half the team queued up behind him too but he gets priority
Disappointing for Keizer. GC could have been much, much better but tale of the season. Thank you for the reports.

Race could've been better but with 9th and 12th I can't complain a lot. It's an improvement compared to last year
Thanks for the reports! |
