Tour of Lithuania
Welcome to Lithuania for the first edition of the Tour of Lithuania! The location names might look Chinese, but that is actually not a mistake. The Lithuanian race organisation wanted to honour the fallen Tour of Beijing by using the names of last year’s Beijing Tour. Another possibility is that they were afraid the race would be unfair if the public knew where the riders were going to pass, as massive hordes of Zalgiris fans would probably destabalize and even endanger the competition by throwing traditional cepelinai at them. Not all of the division top puncheurs are here because of an overlap with Milano – Torino and being an HC race (the only one in September), but there are still a lot of interesting riders at the start. Let’s have a look at the list of favourites.
| MTN | HILL | STA | RES | ACC | Claeys | 66 | 82 | 72 | 66 | 71 | Di Maggio | 65 | 82 | 73 | 68 | 75 | Beltran | 79 | 81 | 73 | 72 | 76 | Buchmann | 76 | 81 | 73 | 74 | 73 | Paulinho | 75 | 80 | 70 | 72 | 75 | Betancourt | 73 | 80 | 72 | 71 | 74 | Waeytens | 71 | 80 | 72 | 70 | 73 | Borges | 70 | 80 | 75 | 73 | 81 | Ulissi | 66 | 80 | 83 | 71 | 75 | Slagter | 78 | 79 | 71 | 73 | 71 | Yates | 70 | 79 | 77 | 70 | 80 | Gautier | 67 | 79 | 75 | 71 | 76 | Bilbao | 67 | 79 | 77 | 71 | 75 | Benoot | 75 | 78 | 75 | 74 | 71 | Moazemi | 73 | 78 | 72 | 72 | 73 | Siskevicius | 73 | 78 | 73 | 72 | 75 | Klemme | 72 | 78 | 71 | 67 | 63 | Landa | 69 | 78 | 70 | 69 | 69 | Kanerva | 64 | 78 | 75 | 69 | 76 | Areruya | 77 | 77 | 75 | 77 | 74 | Meurisse | 74 | 77 | 74 | 74 | 78 |
Claeys and Di Maggio might be the best pure puncheurs and go for a stage win, it seems unlikely for them to actually play a role in the GC when looking at the profile. Climbing ability will be very necessary in this race, as stage 3 and 4 constantly go up and down and end with longer climbs. Therefore it seems logic that the big favourite is actually Beltran, who combines both climbing and punching capacities. Buchmann and Paulinho are also gifted in both and are definitely GC contenders as well.
Betancourt, Waeytens, Borges and Ulissi are other strong puncheurs, but contrary to the former three, the Italian Aramco rider shouldn’t be able to keep up with the others on the longer climbs. Other strong all-rounders hoping for a good GC are Slagter, Yates, Benoot, Moazemi, home rider Siskevicius and Areruya.
Stage two has a high possiblity of ending in a mass sprint, so let’s have a look at the sprinters in Lithuania.
| SPR | ACC | Boivin | 79 | 80 | Rowe | 79 | 80 | Lutsyshyn | 79 | 80 | Kalaba | 79 | 79 | Mareczko | 78 | 77 | Yates | 77 | 80 | Ackermann | 77 | 80 | Lovassy | 77 | 77 | Kamberaj | 77 | 76 | Hodeg | 77 | 76 | Sarreau | 76 | 77 | Martinez | 76 | 76 | McEvoy | 75 | 79 | Trentin | 75 | 76 |
The top favourites for the sprint seem to be Boivin, Rowe and Lutsyshyn. It hasn’t always turned out to be a good thing to be a sprint favourite though, let’s see if it’s any different in Lithuania.
Down below you can find the startlist, good luck to everyone!

Has to look twice before I saw it was Senni supposed to be leading the team. Let's see what happens!
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

The Minions have the support of local stars The Roop, surely nothing can go wrong.

Doubt we will make moves in the GC, so really hope that Boivin snatches stage 2, could be the most important points for us over all.

I figure that like me you've planned on this being like last year's Tour of Beijing (as it's the same profiles) and sent Oomen here to lead. Him and Yates would be my big favourites alongside Beltran, but as neither were mentioned in the preview I'm not too confident now |

Hoping for some depth scoring from the 3 Kraftwerk puncheurs.

We have an interesting squad here. I wonder how Intxausti will perform. Certainly one of more guaranteed win goals MG team has ever achieved

Hopefully no funny business with breakaways at this race. Beltran should at least finish on the podium here. Need a few more good results to ensure safety I think.
Thanks for the preview Nemo

This race is all about breakaways for us! Hope to see Gallopin in the break on stage 3 and/or 4 after losing a lot of time on the first stage.

Nice to see Gaspar and De Vos not punting anything stage 1 and still able to compete for decent depth points in the GC.

I really need a massive result here from Ulissi in the GC to have any hope of survival and that’s definitely not a bad start! We’ll take 2nd in a reduced bunch sprint. Need to stay out of trouble tomorrow and hopefully send someone up into the breakaway.

This was definitely a good start to the race, some of the favorites were already out of the fight for victory and for the first places.
Paulinho managed to finish in the front group which for now opens up good prospects for the rest of the race.

Claeys is taking early retirement, but luckily Ivanov is there to save the day! No clue he has such a nice acceleration, might even be our best bet for a GC with a decent mountain stat.

Perfect profile for Yates and he delivers! Keep this up and we can forgot about just promoting and go for the PCT crown.

Intriguing first stage for us with Borges hiding in a sprint where he should have been a contender.
Let's just hope it ends better than it started.
Congrats on the win though Mre!
