9th on the stage was not worth losing our top 10GC spot, Liphongyu is going to have to work hard to win that one back

The last of the hilly stages navigated without significant loss. Hopefully the TT plays mainly to MT. But last one Kuss was in didn't go well, so a little worried. Then one more stage to survive any RC bonk.
Keep it up boys, pretty sure we have already made the sponsors very happy but to finish in fourth would be outstanding.

And on the last day Mountain day Michael Ford wakes up ..he had dreamt it was all over....#releasemichael
Good stuff again from Brandt, think he might slip to 8th but confident it won't be any worse than that

Tyler have not lost a single second to Atapuma on the latest mountain stages and I think he secured his 7th today, but of course I hope you're right |

No mercy from Nerz as he claims another stage win. extends his GC lead and goes into 2nd in Points behind Haller.
Denz only dropped 1 place which is pretty good and Kiserlovski looked a bit more lively.
The Kraftwerk riders did a lot better in the mountain TT than the flat TT and maintained a healthy lead in the Team competition.
Last big day in the mountains tomorrow, Penasa still within 1 minute, Nerz needs to stay alert.
Nerz is only 10 points off the Mountains jersey, I expect him to be chasing after that tomorrow!
Thanks for the report roturn.

Nice! Liphongyu up to 10th means this is a great day for Thai cycling. Cool to see also Chhetri on the attack again. Great to follow how they were doing for Sauber in this race. |

Was rooting for my former rider Penasa, who really gave his best here. Thrilling stage and at least the Italian got a stage win on the queen stage!

Nice to get that top 10 GC position back on this one, just 1 stage left to hag onto it through for what will be a decent point haul for a race without our 2 big stars.

The cruelty of excluding Ford on Stage 20!
Very satisfactory from Brandt and action hero stuff from McConvey just falling short.
Glanbia still without a stage so all eyes on Bennett tomorrow. Thanks for reporting whole Tour

Indeed. I mean 1'50 behind the winner is obviously OTL but still it was really annoying to see them leave after all their effort.
For both it was basically working at the front on most stages until getting dropped.
So full stage in the wind again and again. |

Great queen stage, wonder if the fact this was a more "traditional" field with two dominant leaders both with strong teams led to solid AI. The shot of the two mountain trains was classic.
Another sound stage by Kuss, will wait for 21 to pass without incident before a wrap up comment.

Nervous moments as Nerz tried to close the gap to Penasa but couldn't. He will be buying the Desigual riders a cold beer for providing a wheel to recover before grinding up to close the gap.
A brave effort from Penasa that deserved a stage win, congrats Atlantius, hope he comes back to read this one day.
Will the team have any energy left to chase the break for Haller on the last stage?
Shame Ford was excluded so close to the finish
Thanks for a great report roturn.

First of all, thanks for those active managers that kept a bit of a discussion here. Must admit, having a GT in Continental Division is kind of annoying if then more than half the teams are not active or not posting anything here.
Even better that those, that were active likely took quite a bit out of this race.
Kraftwerk was sensational and seeing the activity it`s nice to see Nerz took it in the end as having an inactive winner would have been more annoying. That said, Valio was usually very active, so hopefully Atlantius about to come back at one point.
Then Desigual also with a great race, stage wins, GC podium, good backup riders and more.
McCormick had a fantastic Kuss.
Glanbia got Brandt, who rode above expectations and then Bennett on that last stage nicely.
Sauber got a stage win and good performance with a top10 as well.
Gjensidige with a weaker squad at least a stage win and just like McCormick showed most activity in the breaks.
Europcar was doing okay but unfortunately for them as active manager got less from the race as Atapuma might have been on the lower end of the expectations and Ranneries didn`t show up a lot. Similar to BNZ with Garby and Von Hoff.
Well and then there are the others teams, where unfortunately there wasn`t a lot of interest, which makes it likely a negative 6 sites only for a 21 stages event.
Thanks though for some of the non-participant managers to post here and there. In especially for such long race, this is nice to see as sometimes you don`t feel to post a new stage, when there were only 5-6 new posts since the last.
And for all those that would have liked to get them. Sorry for not making podium pictures. |

Thanks for the coverage Roturn, maybe at one point I will be able to fit ToA into my plans! I think it's always an interesting race to follow since it tends to create quite big swings for the managers who take the risk, this year it was Marco Haller being an absolute Don alongside Nerz and Denz, really intense race to follow as well.

Showdown between Nerz and Penasa was fun. Duals like that are pretty uncommon in the MG universe which such deep fields. To be honest, it was nice to see them head and shoulders above the rest when they were like that on the startlist.
Bittersweet to see Garby failing so hard. On one hand I feel vindicated for finally giving up on him, something I felt quite guilty and conflicted about at the time. He clearly doesn't have it, especially in this game version, and he proved that here by doing worse than in his previous try with a weaker startlist. On the other hand, I was kind of rooting for him, and it's tough to see the talent I developed end up amounting to basically nothing. He was a top 5 climber in over half the mountain stages, but has no consistency, and no other attributes to back it up. Maybe he'd be more useful in a support role.
Same thing with Ranneries, though obviously on a lesser level, as there we no expectations for him from most. Still, he had a chance to do great things with his ACC here, and failed in a rare opportunity. His stage top 5 is maybe the best result of his career, but still isn't much. After he surprised with some decent sprints last season, I thought he might have done better here. But the PCM 18 sprint lottery still excludes some I guess, which is probably for the best.
I love coming to the Tour of America, and hopefully we'll be back next year. Unfortunately this year we needed to strap in for the promotion push and that didn't leave race days for this, but I always enjoy this race, and it was a pleasure to follow. i apologize for not commenting more.
Congrats to DTB and thanks to roturn for all the reports!

First - thanks to Roturn for the reports and sticking with the depth for those of us following closely.
Congrats to D2B for a win and some savy race planning which results in a big haul of points. Also to Glanbia for a very deserved stage 21 win given their commitment to the race.
For a very US focused team this race has to be one of our main goals and we will be back as long as it is on the calendar and our sponsor remains the same. Undoubtedly this will be a primary target for a maxed McNulty at some point in the future.
When I scheduled this race I was thinking something around 10th with a run at the KOM might be nice. For Kuss to finish 4th and be consistently in the stage top 5 on stages is an outstanding result. The only downside is it sets a very high bar for him to improve on next year. He benefitted from the weaker field but 4th was the top end of the potential range and he nailed it. Bbl's comments on Garby worry me since their stats are remarkably similar. But this race they weren't similar and Kuss did it with a team made up of one of the last riders signed in free agency and 6 unmaxed riders.
Talking of the rest of the team - thought they nailed it as well, none were strong enough to really help Kuss late in stages so gung ho for the breaks was the right call. While we didn't get the big payoff, the top 10s were more than we would have got riding conservatively and the sponsor has to be happy with the TV time. And loved to see Granigan, the best flat rider, protecting Kuss when the pack split on stage 21.
Disappointing that McNulty slipped from 3rd to 9th in Young Riders when he went into one break too many on Stage 20 but on the whole a strong debut and he will be back in the future, along with the other two McCormick riders in the U25 top 10,
