Rio Vista Chinesa

Race Profile

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/profiles/c2_rio.jpg

Welcome to Brazil for the third edition of the Rio Vista Chinesa! Last year’s winner pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/trg.png Hoelgaard is back to try and win it again, while the winner of the first edition, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/esc.png Meyer, isn’t active in a single race this month. Will the Norwegian Tryg rider succeed again, after he also won Clasico San Cristobal earlier this season, or is it time for another rider to claim to be the best puncheur of the CT division? Or will a PCT lieutenant actually win this one? A lot of questions, let’s just have a look at the list of favourites and try to find some conclusions after we did that.

Okay, so, crazy unexpected conclusion: pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/phi.png Kelderman is the top favourite. He hasn’t won all the C2 races he started in, but is usually a sure name to be on the podium. The same can’t be said about pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/ssr.png Zaini, but with the limited amount of climbing tomorrow, maybe this time he can actually get a good result. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/cen.png Moscon has already shown us some nice things this season, but not all one-day races were as good as manager Fabianski hoped for. What will we see tomorrow, a repeat of Cristobal, Placci or something in between? pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/nel.png Ginanni on the other hand is quite an anonymous rider this season, so it is hard to estimate what to expect from him.

Of all the Gjensidige puncheurs on the list, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/gct.png Eiking is definitely the best known one. He likes to attack, even though this doesn’t always get him the results he hopes for. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/car.png Quevedo and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/cdb.png Juul-Jensen are both involved in the promotion battle, so a win or good result would definitely be welcome. Nobody would say no to a domestique like pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/cdb.png Fabbro, or does he get a free role? Concerning the PCT, we see Campari brings pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/cap.png Dieteren and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/cap.png Jung, while MOL plays the pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/mol.png Mudarra card. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/bsb.png Ben Nasser, pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/sva.png Roux and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/afr.png Seibeb seem to be the leaders for their teams, although Strava, Bralirwa and Project: Africa all have a plan B as well.

No Brazilians at the start tomorrow, let’s have a look at the complete startlist.

That is quite a squad we sent here, bah gawd. Our only hope is Jallays in the breakaway going all the way. But Jallays is a completely deranged maniac on the wheels, should be an easy dub

As usual in hilly races, anything but a zero pointer will be considered a success, maybe we can benefit from the rather small start list. A breakaway appearance would be nice as well.

Kelderman should dominate this, but that's been true for quite a few races where he hasn't. I think Hoelgaard has a decent chance to come close to a title defense, Moscon and JJ might be the biggest challengers though. Thanks for the preview Smile

Kelderman should win but Kelderman often doesn't. So race on I guess Pfft

Thanks for the preview Nemo Smile

Oh damn this is a stacked field Shock

Not much to hope for here - any points will be welcome. Smart move would be to send Ssabagwanya in the early break to capitalise on his 80STA/75RES, but PCM AI is hardly smart Pfft

All in for Moscon, as usual in those races. The support isn't as strong as usual, though, with "only" Lienhard, Saggiorato and Brüngger being decent puncheurs.
Wilco *should* be unbeatable once again, but well, we've already beaten him quite some times, so it should be an open race. If a bigger group gets to the line, I could even see Lienhard getting a good result thanks to his sprint.

Only race for us this month, so it would be nice if at least it was a good one Smile
By the way, first pro race for stagiaires Froidevaux and Szarka, who will of course also race in Avenir later this month.

Thanks for the preview, and good luck to everyone!

After reporting this race last year, it seemed that the route allowed good performances from both pure puncheurs and some hybrid climber guys. Of course, that was on a more mountainous profile. Still, without the race days for Fabbro in Vineyards, I decided to give him a shot here and see what happens. He could easily be dropped early or be there at the finish. We could have a great combo, or our lack of clear leadership could sink us. I took a risk, and we'll see if it works out.

In any case, hopefully the race is as interesting as last year. It was a lot of fun to report and had a lot of excitement throughout. Profile change could make it better or worse. Hoping for the former.

Thanks for preview!

What a thrilling final few kilometres, love it, brilliant ride and huge victory for Seibeb and Project: Africa Grin

We really got lucky in Yekaterinburg when we got our win goal! Tired of complaining about Kelderman by now. Wish Watson was a little more involved in races like these. Good stuff by JCH though.

Congrats to Pedal: Africa for a great timed attack by Seibeb. Thanks for the report Nemo Smile

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaattttt Banana Banana Banana

Seibeb you legend! Man, when he’s got that daily form he really goes! Got a bit disheartened when I saw Ssabagwanya out of it. Thrilled with how it turned out. Might actually put us in with a long shot at promotion!

Thanks for the report Nemo and all the congratulations.

Haha, didn’t see this one coming! But yeah he can really pull a rabbit out his helmet some days.

Ack! Siebeb with a perfectly timed attacked. JJ was super strong today to sprint to 2nd after two previous attacks, he just launched a single hair too late. Exciting but disappointing as his manager. Always sucks to lose a race like that, and JJ has been chasing that elusive win all year.

Nevertheless, that was a great performance, some more scoring, and we are satisfied with it. Juul-Jensen still beat every other pure puncheur in the peloton, probably unrealistically, and we come out of here with a 2nd place. That 2nd is all the more better because adding Fabbro was actually worth it for us. 9th will score well for us as depth and proves that Matteo can excel in these types of races. So far this year his worst performances have been when he's riding in the mountains with Warbasse. On his own and in classics, he has been decently strong. So, good team effort today overall.

Congrats to Aidan on a great, daring victory for Seibeb. He's clearly got the intelligence hidden stats maxed out. Pfft

Thanks for a great report Nemo! Loved the detailed coverage of that final kilometer.

If P:A are making the best out of rather limited puncheur abilities, we're doing pretty much the contrary. Probably most stupid move of the year here by Lienhard, he was never going to pull that sprint through. Moscon and Lienhard should really have collaborated, then I'm sure a better result than this 7th place would have been possible.

But well, I know Moscon isn't made for those easy finishes, so I'm hoping for some better results in the harder races. He has clearly shown by his moves that he was there, but he just can't sprint. Well, you can't have everything... except if your rider is smarter than all others. Congrats, aidan.

And thanks for the report, Nemo. Hoping for some better news for us next time, though Pfft

Congrats to Aidan! A breakaway and a small handful of points are all I could have asked for. Thanks for the report Nemo, really enjoyed the small observations throughout Smile

Well the only contributions from Hoelgaard and Smirnovs today was getting caught out by breaks in the peleton. Really a very disappointing showing after last years dominant performance.
