See you at Le Tour
Also good luck in that disgusting race, that can't even be named correctly
I'm sure the last one will be painless

I guess this month you take back the lead, should be some good races for you. I don't like the composition of Dzamastagic and Eislers in the sprint train, not sure if the ACC will work in favour of that (as long as Dzamastagic doesn't "sprint" already you should be fine). I guess it will be either amazingly good or really disappointing in your home race. |

Love to see it!
Unfortunately we had ditch Krigbaum (76 flat), Cosnefroy (75 flat), Peng (75 flat) (and Vermote (75 flat)), but we do have some great firepower fronted by Kragh (81 flat), Wisniowski (80 flat), Würtz (77 flat), Pedersen (77 flat) and Norman Hansen (77 flat). I hope we can work something out

Croatia - I understand your thoughts well and am a bit worried about it too. But i felt like i needed to try it at least once and with the history between Moscow and my team, i felt like this was the right race to do so. I could see it go either way too and am curious how it works out. If we dont take back the lead this month, we are in trouble.
tasta - Yeah, your lineup is certainly more top heavy and i'd love if we could see some cooperation to force some splits or something like that. Otherwise, i feel like you just wrote out my transfer shortlist for the next transfer window and if we wont be able to work something out in Moscow, maybe during transfers?
redordead - Thanks, wouldnt mind seeing you in the mix for a good SS result too

Nah, not this time.

I understand that. One of the downsides of not having any secondary guys with hopes for a upset if the top guy needs a rest.

True that. Too bad I had that guy, but got rid of him

jph - I think its a smart choice to send someone like Yates there. Think it will work out nicely for you too
redordead - This race was an obvious lock since the bands were announced. Sorry, not sorry
But maybe they can cooperate well enough together during the race to drop all those poor/pure puncheurs...
Cro - I certainly hope so since you still have a great stage race on our former home soil as well. For me, Balkan already looks like a do-or-die race for Evonik since i dont think we can make up enough ground if that race ends up a failure.

A lot of question marks indeed, but I think it's fair to say MAL will be the top favourite in the Balkans, definitely without any question mark

For many years, the name "Miguel Angel Lopez" was a promise for the future amongst cycling managers and experts. That future is now. Now 26 years old, Lopez raced a superb season as arguably the Evonik leader with the highest consistency and ended the season with the biggest victory of his still young career:
At the traditional season closer, the Giro di Lombardia, he was the most aggressive of the favourites. He tried a first attempt with 25km of roads ahead and nobody could match his acceleration. That attempt proved futile when an armada of Moser domestiques brought him back but when everyone was waiting for a group sprint, Lopez was the only rider capable of following an attack by Sean De Bie on the final climb of the day. The duo could hold the pack at bay and Lopez proved the strongest by outsprinting the Aegon star for his first victory in a monument.
With the success he follows the tradition of Evonik success in monuments as the team has established themselves as one of the most proficient monument hunters in the MG:
| Best | Year | Rider | Milan San Remo | 1st | 2017 | Michael Van Stayen | Ronde Van Vlaanderen | 1st | 2018 | Greg Van Avermaet | Paris - Roubaix | 1st | 2020 | Adam Blythe | Liege- Bastogne - Liege | 2nd | 2018 | Toms Skujins | Giro di Lombardia | 1st | 2020 | Miguel Angel Lopez |
There is a lot of hope that Lopez will prove crucial in further improving that track record.

Congrats on a monumental season! Winning P-R and Lombardia in the same year is a great performance, as it requires world-class riders in two different categories!
I still find it hard to believe you got beaten in the title race, but I guess in the end a GC-beast can still outscore those classic specialists - and I'm afraid it was among others your TT aversion that cost you the title... Maybe next year - looking forward to race against Evonik in some PTHC (or even PT) races

Thanks a lot! I actually looked it up and it seems like i'm the first team to win those two monuments in the same season and only the second to win both at any time. Veusvio is the only other team to have done so but a couple of years apart.
Regarding the title race, it happened what i feared could happen. We scored well enough, close to 8000 points is good scoring and would have been good quite often if we would replay the current season a couple of times with same squads and same startlists etc. We scored ~400 points above what Gazelle had last season as a dominating PT winner. So basically we did our home work. But there is a lot of variance involved and one of the couple of teams that had a realistic shot at beating us, happened to have a close to perfect season. Isostar just delivered everywhere due to a combination of good planning and a lot of luck that you just have to have to win the title even with a superb squad.

Amazing victory for MAL and surely the first of many big wins to come in his career. It was a great season indeed. I know you went all out for the title this time and were just beaten by a team which had a perfect season, like you said. It was still a great way to end the season and build up hype for the next one already
Looking forward to racing with you again in some races but not looking forward too much to going up against MAL
