It’s that time of the year we remember Simon Yates’ middle name is Philip and Hugh Carthy’s John. The pink fever is back in May! Time to open a thread for a pre-race discussion and to follow the race daily, afterwards. Exciting route, crazy killer climbs, sterrato, and the return of the wonderkid... should be quite an eventful race.
Also recommend a short trip to Yellow Jersey’s Echelons thread where he’s posting previews of the route and contenders, always a good read here: https://pcmdaily....st_1388685
Sorry for the lack of love for Buchmann, hope he can perform though, even if he has been underwhelming for quite a while... well, maybe that’s a sign he will actually win...? |

Probably Nibali's last chance to win a GT. I'll be cheering for him after Evenepoel crashes out.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

I personally can't wait to see Fabbro at work. I loved the job he did last year and his start of the season went well. I know I'm not talking about the GC, but it is one of the things I'm looking forward to at this year Giro. |

Voting Landa for the lulz
I can't see Nibali winning this race against much better, younger and fitter climbers. Yates still has a score to settle. Bernal looked good this season until he didn't. Jai Hindley will be interesting to see too how he performs in a normal season.
Aside from that, i find the field a bit lackluster compared to previous years but maybe it's because none of those names have been stomped the competition like Roglic and Pogacar did, so actually I look forward to some hopefully very exciting racing. Giro always delivers!

Simply Jai Hindley He impressed me a lot at the last Giro and now he's capable to win.
Would like to vote for my compatriots, Vlasov and Sivakov, but if you look objectively it's a bit early for them to be in the same row with Berzin, Tonkov and Menchov. Next year maybe. But I will be glad to be wrong

Dan martin will easily win by 5 minutes, why even have the poll?

I have now noticed I completely neglected Martin and also the flying Kiwi Bennett. They do both deserve to end on the podium now.
Btw, meet EF’s jersey for this year’s Giro:

Wow, really like those kits. I like the flag concept, without them actually being real flags. Really works with the team/company message imo.
Almost like a modern Mapei. Too bad the helmets dont take on the "kaleidoscope look that the bikes and bottles are getting.

Bernal seems to be complaining about his back already. Early excuses or mind games?

The Giro d’Italia is about doing what I did last year or maybe even better - Hindley about his preparing to Giro:

I'll be boring and go for Simon Yates to win with the dark horse being Vlasov but will be interested to see if both Carthy and Hindley can reach last seasons level or if they were just one offs. The QS leadership between Remco and Almeida will be interesting considering Remco hasn't raced for such a long time and Almeida has improved since the last Giro and no idea what to really expect from Bernal. Can't see Nibali coming anywhere near the podium and maybe Landa's best chance to land a GT, I think it will be a real shame if he never lands a GT but I feel the only way he can do this is through a long range mountain attack as he really doesn't have the acceleration to do it over a short distance.
Not too impressed with the first part of the route with just one mountain stage in the first 11 stages and that just has cat 2 and 3 climbs, I'm not normally a huge fan of back-ended tours with all the mountain stages together but it seems to be popular when designing race routes in GT's now.

Some suspicious timing here, but apparently Jakobsen did not agree with Groenewegen's view that the two had "a good conversation". According to Jakobsen he did not receive a personal apology, nor did Groenewegen take any responsibility for the crash. He also says it's in the hands of his legal team now, so I don't think we've seen the last of it.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

I feel seen
Not sure what to think of Emu's chances at all. He was originally scheduled to ride the Tour of the Alps and then skipped in favor of another training camp. He's only shown flashes since his crash at the Dauphiné last year, but if he gets close to the level he had there, he's arguably a podium contender. Fabbro should be great as support, too, looking forward to what he can do.
No big expectations, but it would be great to see Emu back in form again

I think this race might be pretty wide open, unless Bernal is in great shape, so could be a fun one to bet on. Plus I need to catch up to Roturn.
I think Deceuninck weirdly have the strongest stage racing team (if everyones on form), Masnada, Almeida and Remco is a pretty strong trio.

No clue what to expect from Georgie B but will be cheering for him of course I know he probably won't win but I would love a big result to be able to pin his career on a bit (obviously he has a respectable palmares but not many memorable results for the casual or non-Kiwi fan) after he got so (relatively) close in Lombardia last year. Maybe his last shot at a GT with Jumbo if he doesn't perform in a big way here.

Time for the most entertaining race of the year
On another topic haven't been active in ages. There use to be a game for the Grand Tours where you could chose a bunch of riders and you would get points based on the performance of the rider u chosed. Is this game still around?
