ICL20 - Race Discussion

Nerz really trying to find his start of the season form, which explains us dropping hard in the rankings. Quaade struggling to get a top 10 in Luxembourg also not ideal, but hopefully the rest of the Suisse reports brings better news.

Yamashita with an awesome stage win. Great for him and the team. Sarmiento has been pretty bad all year, but hopefully Yamashita and Yamamoto can hold on to strong GC positions in Switzerland. A stage win is always great though, and we can hopefully hold on to the U25 lead as well.

Really not used to see so huge time differences, that was pretty shocking in Guatemala. But that just seems to be PCM15 - you can get from zero to hero and vice versa in one day. To see Mendes move up to 14th on day 5 was great, to see him lose most of that gain again on day 6 was less exciting. Still, 21st should be about where he belongs.

Luxembourg then was pretty disappointing, but at least Suisse looks promising right now. Hopefully Chamorro can still move up a bit on the really tough stages, but he handled those first few hills really well.

Second in La Jurassaine is acceptable, I didn't have MVDP on my list and we got punished for that.
At least Silvio's sprint salvaged second place and gets us a decent budget bonus, and division rival Nerz has been beaten solidly again.

Auer sadly only down in 30th to add just a single point, the Top 15 surely would've been the target.
Without a video, it's hard to tell if that was a necessary sacrifice to force the final selection though.

The start in the TdS, another focus race, has been very good!

A mediocre short opening TT, for the third time so far this season, proves we still need to work on that skill some more.
It's minor time losses, but there's a lot of points to be gained in prologues throughout the season.

But then on stage 2, our sprint focus during the off-season paid off well for the first time, with an incredible second on the stage behind Blythe being immensely important towards our goal of winning green, and gaining time on GC rivals wherever possible.

Stage 3 should've been a win for Herklotz, with Yamashita being lucky to randomly be ahead, but another second place got us into yellow and green, and additionally we had Auer right behind in 4th with a nice gap on the peloton to make up for his weaker TT.

So with two sprint stages and a mountaintop finish to come in the next block of 3 stages, I hope Herklotz can continue to be in the mix in the sprints to keep Blythe from getting an insurmountable gap in the fight for green.

Already having a gap of nearly a minute on Nerz is a great position to be in, we need to ensure we remain in yellow after stage 5 to stay in prime position to make it 3/3 GC wins.
With the long TT on the penultimate day being universally disliked among the second tier climbers present, I don't think anyone but Nerz can come within touching distance of Herklotz anymore.

PCM15 does have some major time gaps but the Guatemala queen stage is just the most insane stage ever created in this game. Nothing normal about it.

Luxembourg was a huge letdown for us, but given that the field was stacked, there was nothing we could do about it

Guatemala was a race to forget with Caruso crashing out and Jungels being useless again in the TT. The start to the TdS looks pretty good though, let's see what our boys can do on home soil. Smile

With Caruso crashing out of Guatemala our downfall has started immediately. Pfft

At least our old man Ponzi is still good for the occasional good result in a sprint.

Surely just in anticipation to peak for the next GT Wink

Well, if he makes up for it at the Tour then I'll obviously take it. Smile

What the hell? Absolutely shocking from Peiffer in Suisse, did he have a mechanical or crash or something?

Being predicted to finish last in the CT rankings and having a focus race such as Guatemala brought shivers down my spine. But our group of mavericks fought hard and although we come out bruised from the clash with WT teams we come out smiling. We have 2 riders in top 15, Pedro del Mar 11th snd Aredondo 14th. Also Pedro del Mar came 10th in the queen stage and throughout the race our guys were very active in the breakaways. On top of these we finished 4th in the teams classification. We did really, really well.

To be honest, I have no clue what happened to him.

Thank you!
Oh, I was perfectly aware of the risks, but with the team based in El Salvador it seemed only logical for the sponsors to demand results in the area, Guatemala and Costa Rica in this case. I know that results here could slow the progress of my team, but I opted for a bit of realism. I planned the team around the queen stage and to hold its own on the TT, after that I started hoping against all hope for something good to happen. Well, it did. Grin It appears my guys pushed well beyond their limits and delivered an exceptional result from my point of view. I guess no risk no gain holds a lot of truth here.
I am already drafting some new contracts for this guys. Wink Although I do hope we would strength the squad in the off-season.

Stage 5 really put paid to Dombrowski's Top 5 hopes Sad Couple of decent stage results but a few positions higher in the GC was the hope.

Three more stages of Suisse are up!

Nerz with complete dominance on stage 5, who would have thought. Nothing more from me today as maybe Bikex will post opening stages of Fuji and Deutschland Tour later today.

Quite some time loss on the mountain stage for Navarro, surprised to see him in 10th so far. Hopefully he can keep it up and maybe Liberty joins some racing winning moves. Strong 16th in GC by Cuadros, too.

What a huge blow to our race these stages were...

Stage 5 obviously an extremely unsatisfactory result, and the break on stage 6 denying Schnaidt a stage win sucks a lot as well.

At least there are enough obstacles left in the race to do to Nerz what he did to us there, and the points classification still looks well within reach too if Silvio starts performing as usual.
We HAVE to win the time trial and one of the mountain stages.

Damn, from 2nd to 30th in one mountain stage. Not one of my guys were able to finish less than 8 mins from the leader, even though only 3 stats separates them, ouch. I was expecting to drop there, but outside the Top 15 is pretty crazy

baseballlover312
Not bad for Langlois in a tough field. The podium was lucky. I'll take that and another top 10, even if it isn't much.
