Villella lost a lot of time there on the 14th stage and also looked very vulnerable on the penultimate climb of the 15th stage but he recovered brilliantly and is now 6th in GC, which is very good. The gap behind is also very big now, so a Top 7 is hopefully possible. Domont also still in the KOM lead, which is brilliant to see. He looks a bit weak though at the moment, so we'll see what happens.

After the disaster of Stage 6 Nairo been treading water in Italy, clawed a little bit of the time back but nothing decisive. Still plenty of road to go and feel good about the final TT if he keeps it close.
Sanz was channeling Benoot in Horizon Park and Moscow.
The KBC - 23 squad were like 6 of the last 10 in GC in Fjords but still got one good stage result and 4th in the KOM. They also beat a Pro Tour Team, who I won't call out, in the TTT so nice confidence boost for the young guys.

Great win for Degenkolb in Moscow
Interesting how Bauhaus seems to be our preferred sprinter ahead of Kreder in races where they're both there and Degenkolb isn't. Seems like my off-season decision became a lot easier.

Giro 16-18 is on!
Spoiler What a story! More DNFs, Villella winning weird sprint and still being increadibly strong, Barguil with a very bad day on stage 17 losing probably even podium chances (!), Herrada with a minute lead over Quintana before final 3 stages |

Brutal stuff, favourites going all in very early, huge gaps, peloton thinned out quite significantly. I'll only say that while I'm a big fan of Credit Suisse it is a bit weird to see Villella win in a mass sprint and then to keep up with the best climbers on that tough stage 17. It was a very good idea to bring him to the Giro for sure.
Fernandez sadly blew up on that stage which also cost us our good position in the teams ranking, Tao is easily back on top.

Big ups to Chaves for clawing into the top 10. Hope he can keep it now but not sure, is there an ITT coming up? If yes than doubt it

A good 2nd place from Bauhaus on Stage 16. A little up and down from Craddock. Hope he can stay inside the Top 20. Brus with a good ride from the break on Stage 17. Brambilla too, has been consistent but it won't be worth much.

Wellens is doing the ultimate Zubeldia. Good to see Danny win another race as well.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Ah Villella, you are one sexy man.
Awesome performance by him. To be directly behind the "big 5" and occasionally even managing to beat them - and collecting 2 stage wins along the way - is definitely a lot more than I expected. Hopefully he'll manage to stay on his bike from here on and with that keep 6th in GC.
On top of that Domont has increased his gap in the KOM standings as he keeps on being really aggressive, which is great. He actually doesn't even really seem that strong for a 77 MO climber, but if he wins the KOM it's all good. The battle for the win seems to be leaning towards Herrada for now, looking good for you there Shonak.
Thanks dominox for the results and videos!

Finally a stage win for Herrada! Massive ride to push Barguil out of the group and even go for the maglia rosa. Hopefully the leader jersey can be kept and Herrada is not doing any stupid bs. It's too bad that Herrada didnd put much more time into Quintna on stage 17, the guy was really struggling in the last 4k. Fingers crossed.
So far it looks good for the focus race but I am bit worried about the lack of stage wins and the missing depth points (navarro </3 ).

Sympathy to Barguil, that was far worse than Quintana's Stage 6 collapse. Think Herrada has this, seems to be finishing stronger and not enough stages left. But fingers crossed. Would love one more stage win.

Last two races posted before Giro concludes May.
Surprising good performance by Navarette in Copenhagen, long live random time trials lol

What a big one by Rasmussen for the Siragon Project. Well executed first victory of the season.
But if I didn't overlook something it's also the worst performance in team history at the Giro, we are doing absolutely nothing. |

Broomhead sucks. With his SPR 70 I thought he could make the top 20 in a mass sprint but he always gets dropped and arrives in the gruppetto. Maybe next season... or maybe Bikex lets me find a better alternative.

The Copenhagen-Malmö ITT race was one of our focus races and I'm glad to see Ludvigsson wins it

Which will happen... I don't know when, but it probably will at some point. I hope my cdb's files aren't giving Bikex any issues with extracting results for stage 20/21.
Stage 20 had "I don't want to export results" issue, and stage 21 was crashing after last rider got to finish line so... We are waiting.
In the meantime I'll post June preview later today. |
