Lincoln GP

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/profiles/c2hc_lin.jpg

The 9th edition of the Lincoln GP. This cobbled classic has been ever present on the MG calendar since 2012. It's not a particularly long race at 157 km, but the Lincoln circuit is well known for it's sharp cobbled climbs. There is a total of 13 of them, with the last of those representing the finish of the race. Given the slightly shorter length of the race stamina does not seem to be one of the more important stats. On the other hand ability on the hills and acceleration could prove to be the tiebreaker. The cobble stat is a must as in all the cobble races, while flat is always very useful. We have last year's winner pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/lph.png Samuel Coronel on the startlist, but we will probably see him working for someone else this time. Speaking of...

Let's look at some of the favourites:

Tier I

FLAHILRESCOBACC
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/car.png Tsatevich7477737575
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/lph.png Baugnies7771727972
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/bsb.png Naesen7572737676

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/car.png Tsatevich is a great allrounder. The best puncheur on the list, explosive and good on the cobbles. In fact just competent in any situation, but will he get the chance to lead his team in front of a rider in tier III? We can't really say anything bad about pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/lph.png Baugnies either. He's the best cobbler the CT division has and is a decent puncheur as well. Lastly we have pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/bsb.png Naesen who is another do it all rider with some serious acceleration on him.

Tier II

FLAHILRESCOBACC
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/sva.png Van Avermaet7472697872
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/cdb.png Sinkeldam7475707768

We actually have less riders in tier II than in tier I?! That's just the way the dice rolled. Both pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/sva.png Van Avermaet and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/cdb.png Sinkeldam are well suited to this course, just not quite to the degree of the riders above. But they can both for sure fight for the win. Sinkeldam in the better puncheur, while Van Avermaet is the more explosive cobbler.

Tier III

FLAHILRESCOBACC
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/phi.png Van Lerberghe7466747773
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/phi.png Paprstka7569707572
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/bnz.png Weber7367697577
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/car.png Nolf7365717970
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/spr.png Schlechter7472677566
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/trg.png Maes7865717764
pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/gsc.png Taubel7365737864

Let's look at tier III. We start off with the Philips duo of pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/phi.png Van Lerberghe and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/phi.png Paprstka. Van Lerberghe is the stronger cobbler, but Paprstka handles the hills better. Will he help his leader or deliver a top result himself? pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/bnz.png Weber is not particulary strong in any category, but boy can he pack a punch! He could certainly surprise some people with that acceleration. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/car.png Nolf is Carrefour's primary cobbled leader, so can he swallow his pride and let Tsatevich lead this time? This decision could have a crucial impact on the race.

Next we have pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/spr.png Schlechter who is the best puncheur in tier III, but he really lacks resistance and his acceleration is also not the best. pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/trg.png Maes and pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2020/Micros/gsc.png Taubel are strong cobblers who prefer flatter courses, so they will both hope the hills aren't too selective. Their positioning before the hilly parts will also be crucial.

Expectations are low, as in any cobbled race... However, Basso is stronger on the hills than many tier 3 riders - but his cobbles stat will likely still keep him from scoring decent points. Top 20 would likely be the maximum he can get out of this one - but a zero-pointer isn't unrealistic at all.

Thanks for the preview!

I don't know what we're doing here to be honest.

Baugnies has been disappointing in C2HC/C2 so far, so let's hope this one is better. A top-3 is a must if we want to keep being competitive and get a top-10 in the final CT ranking. Still hoping to get our first one-day win of course, Centovalli recently gave us the perfect example of how to do it, so let's hope my team has been watching Coppa Placci Pfft

I fear that mountain stats might come into play here, which would be bad for Naesen, and looking at guys like Coronel and Sandoval doing so well here last year underscores that. But hopefully the fact that the short ascents are the cobbled parts makes them high intensity enough to mostly use hill. Then I'd be optimistic for a Top 3 to Top 5, plus some depth scoring by Schoonbroodt and Okbamariam. Let's see how this goes.

Will be very happy if we live up to the preview. We've done decently well in cobbles so far, so hoping it keeps going.

Thanks for the preview redordead Smile

As with most cobbles races, we will be hoping that climbing is significant here. Hill traditionally, but mountain influence probably favors us as well, so we'd take that. We can't win from a sprint, so it has to be selective - but selective in the proper way.

My goal would be for Sinkeldam to perform more like he did in his first couple of races this year than he did the last few. No more punctures or randomly missing splits please, he's too good for that. A top 10 should be the bare minimum for him on this type of course.

Dunkerque is next up after this and that's our goal race. So hopefully this acts as a nice of preview of what might happen there, and it allows Ramon to build some form.

I'm really interested in my team can even come close to the top 30 tomorrow as Thomas Geraint is weak in hilly stages and Rok Korošec and Luka Pibernik are not good in cobbled races.

It will be interesting to see how Schlechter can do here, hopefully he can have a good day and make use of his hill stat.

More often than not Tsatevich completely fucks up compared to his stat suggestion. Nice to see him actually win.

First of all, thank you for a great report. It seems like it mustn't have been easy to follow, which makes it more spectacular and enjoyable for us but definitely not easier for the reporter Smile

Concerning Los Pollos, I have some mixed feelings. A third place is decent. It is great to not "completely fuck up" as SotD put it nicely, which has happened before in C2/C2HC. Still, being called the best cobbler in the CT division and being unable to win or be second in any of those race (with the first podium spot today) is still a bit underwhelming. Today was decent of course, although the team tactics seemed a bit strange to me, and I'd really like Baugnies to get a gap and go solo à la Summerhill one day Pfft But well, very nice prediction by you to put the top-3 in the in Tier I in your preview Grin Seems like the hill stat played a very important role today with also Basso in fourth, so in the end I should be grateful for Baugnies to not totally fall apart even. Let's hope our Belgian continues this decent form for his next cobbled race in Dunkerque, which is actually a win goal for us.

So thanks for the great report again, and congratulations to Carrefour for winning, Bralirwa for Naesen delivering again , probably putting them in the top-5 by now, and Centovalli who's still going strong in the title race Smile

Basso ShockShockShock

He must have had a +20 day, doing a Malecki here with those big cobblers! Really don't know how this was possible, but I'll happily take it as a compensation for a messed-up Betonexpressz Pfft

Congrats to Carrefour, they're really going strong in these C2HC races! The win plus four more riders in the Top 25 is a great result!

Thanks for the entertaining report! As Nemo said, it must sometimes have been hard to keep track of what's going on, and which route they take on which lap - and the lapped riders added a bit more fun as well Wink Great job!

Its official, I completely overpaid for GVA. Lets go for something else next season.

Gratz to Carrefour, nice report reddeadredemption!

I think we lived up to expectations but can't help but feel we still lost ground here. Possibly a little disappointed to miss out on the move for the second group but two in the Top 10 and another in the Top 15 is fine.

Congrats on the win Maxime and thanks for the report redordead Smile

Very happy with this result. Considering how strong Tsatevich looked on the final hill (congrats Maxime!), second was the best possible result for Naesen. Before the start of the season, I was pretty worried that he was an overpay, but his stat combination does seem to pay off exactly how I hoped it would. This also makes me more optimistic for the GP Kigali, our big one. Okbamariam and Schoonbroodt also continue to do fine domestique work, 18th and 22nd is decent (though not optimal) depth scoring, and eventhough pointless in the literal sense, it's nice to have our youngsters Chokri and Rutsch in the Top 32.

Thanks redordead, quality report after quality report from you!

baseballlover312
Hoped Sinkeldam would have a bit more of a hills advantage here, but perhaps in Dunkerque it will be more pronounced. Finishing last in a group is never ideal, though his sprint and acceleration make that a common occurrence. Can't complain.

Overall, a top 5 is in line with what we wanted here, especially since De Vreese did fairly well in 13th. And Tsatevich is undoubtedly a super deserved winner here given his strength and how stacked Carrefour is.

Nice to see Resell attacking as well and still holding on to score a point in 25th. Our cobbles depth is certainly not what it used to be, but it's nice to see us using what we have effectively.

Congrats to maxime and thanks for a great report! Action all the way through, so it was very fun.

Thank you for the wonderful report redordead, and appreciate all the kind words from everyone. Definitely super happy with a win like this from Tsatevich as I was especially worried Nolf would be prioritized as the team leader in races like this, but I guess not luckily for us.

Overall, great performance from Tsatevich and loved seeing some of our domestiques perform so well like Skala and Sanikwathi. Hopefully this bodes well for the future but clearly the competition is going to be tough as we get further into the flatter cobbled stages where Nolf will lead the team over Tsatevich. Regardless, big win and hopefully sets us up for some future success here.

And again Redordead, great report! loved every second of it (beyond the obvious reasons Cool )
