The C2HC action picks up again in Gent, for the third C2HC classic of the season so far. Philips and Gjensidige with the victories so far, but this time there are cobblestones in the mix.
It's a long race at 252 kilometres. Will the 5 laps of the Kemmelberg circuit be decisive, or will the subsequent cobble-free run to the line be where the race is decided?
It's not quite the first cobbled action for the CT contenders, with many having just concluded the Viana do Castelo - but here there are no PCT teams getting in the way.
It's therefore the first proper head to head of the division's strongest two riders on paper for the cobbles, Nolf and Baugnies. But there are a host of other riders who will look to do well here, and the sprint stat of each rider could prove to be important as well.

Actually, I can't really expect to get any points from this race, definitely not having a great cobbler. But I'm still hoping that those 252km will hurt some riders, and then Basso could benefit from his 78 Sta. Plus, I surely hope for the hills to do some (but not too much) damage, as he's pretty capable of doing them, too. A Top 20 would be great, but even that doesn't seem too realistic with this huge startlist.
Baugnies, GvA, Taubel or Van Lerberghe will surely be looking for redemption after a subpar Viana do Castelo, and I guess they do have some good chances to do so, with the hills much easier. And cobbled, so the pure puncheurs won't be able to do anything.
Let's check that one off the list, and then go ahead with HongKong

A rare chance for Rathe to lead the team, one of our first signings. Not expecting anything but maybe get in the break and hold on for a minor placing.
Routing for Manamalage but fear there are too many hills for him.
Thanks for the preview.

Coming off a great Viana, I can't expect to take as much from this one. We will certainly need a tough race for Sinkeldam to do well, and the parcours don't really suit that outcome. Here's hoping we can get a decent result.

GVA has to do better than in Viana, then again, he literally can only do better.

Hoping for big things now from Van Lerberghe, Paprstka and Bovenhuis from this with Viana being a bust. Have to do better in the cobbles to keep the momentum going from January.
Thanks for the preview SN.

Same for Naesen This should suit him much better. Hopefully he reaches the finish line within the first group and can sprint for maybe even a podium.

Well, not expecting much here. Parcours seems a bit too hilly for our liking. Will be happy to just grab a point or two.

I hope that the first race in a season it won't be to hard for the Geraint Thomas and Tesfay Abraha and I'm interested to see how much support can Pibernik and Korošec give to Thomas.

Thanks for the report SN, great coverage!
And congrats to Bralirwa for a huge win here - the beer counter now already looks a bit better
Personally, definitely not unhappy with the few points Basso picked up - although, seeing Rathe pick up 7th place kind of hurts, as Basso shouldn't be weaker on that course. But well, it's a race we expected zero points from, we got three - let's move on!

Thanks SN, great report. GVA with a good race but too less energy in the finale, probably losing a few spots due to the waiting along in the end. Would have been good to see him stay away but it's a good sign after not all went well on the cobbles. Gratz to the cunegow.

Not the best race for us, but as we noted before, not the best parcours for us anyway. Sinkeldam was still pretty decent with a top 10. Shame De Vreese had to work so hard since we missed the moves at the end. Might have had a better finished otherwise.
It was a pretty good race and the cobbled sprinter types got their just deserve at the top. Thanks for a great report SN!

Oh man! What a race! First of all, fantastic report SN, thank you for that! Really had me at the edge of my seat the whole time. More than once I thought the race was lost for Naesen, but either through tactical finesse or dumb luck (or a little bit of both), he actually pulled it off. I (over)paid specifically for that great stamina and sprint with a decent hill stat, cool to see those come in clutch. Our depth continues to shine as well, with 15th and 19th for Okbamariam and Schoobroodt and a surprisingly strong 24th for Habtom. Really stoked to have my first win here, thanks for the nice words guys

Weber that was literally our race to lose in the end there. Dang it!! I mean considering our past on the cobbles. A 2nd is amazing but it still should’ve been a win.
Congrats to the winner and thanks for the report!

Would have been happy with 20th so 7th truly great from Rathe, and he didn't just ride along and sprint but was active throughout. When he got dropped early I thought that would be the last I heard of him, very much the opposite.
Thanks for the report and congrats to Cunego.

3rd and 5th is a great outcome as Van Lerberghe and especially Paprstka lit up the race. We would've probably won had Van Lerberghe gone to the lead group instead of Paprstka, but I'd have happily taken this result before the race, so can't complain too much. Bovenhuis in 17th is great as well. Viana is forgotten and soon, which is good
Congrats to cunego for the win and thanks for the excellent report SN!

Disappointing cobbled openers for Baugnies and the team. If we want to finish in the top-10 of the team´s standings, scoring in these races is vital. Congratz to to cunego with your first win and a great weekend with Viano included thanks for the report SN!
