Vuelta al Tachira Discussion

Not a great day for Kuss, unfortunately.

But Ndayisenga really being rewarded by his aggression, and Pinot in total command.

Well, that definitely was an eventful stage for us. Very happy with the Petrovski-win of course, as well as his position in the GC and KoM now. I fear the peloton won't let him go to defend his lead there tomorrow though, that's a shame. Too bad Marquez didn't have a great day, hopefully he won't lose more time tomorrow. Some nice stuff by Valens indeed, congratz cunego Smile The newbies are taking over Grin

Thank you jph, two more to go and you can enjoy some time off with a fresh pint Wink

Thanks for a great report and congrats to Nemolito!

For us, it's a decent, but not particularly good, stage. I'd really like to see us use our numbers better, but it seems like one or more of our 77+ guys is always having a bad day. Today, it was Fabbro again. We still managed to have 3 guys in that big group on the final climb and didn't really do anything with that unfortunately. Maybe Warbasse just wasn't strong enough anyway.

Warbasse has been decent in this race, but anonymous in the strong field, which is a reversal of last season, when he was always doing something. That top 5 goal seems even more unlikely now despite a pretty solid day. The field's just too strong. He moves up to 7th, but he lost too much time in the TT to reach Marquez, and Ndayisenga's good attack has launched him out of reach. Would take an exceptionally good day from Warbasse or a specifically bad one from Marquez and Lunke to get it done.

Fabbro and Eg should at least get a couple of U25 points finishing 2nd and 3rd behind Ranaweera (which should be a familiar pattern this year). If we're not going to use them as productive teammates, I'd like to see them try something here tomorrow.

Gotta send commiserations to Carrefour too. Novak just laying an egg this whole race.

Ndayisenga is having an amazing race, really shaking things up with his attacks.

Ranaweera has not lived up to his billing as one of the 2 to beat so far so hopefully this is just a one of and not a sign of how his season is going to go

Khodayari feeling stronger than Mektel and actually doing something with the good legs. I've been waiting for one of my guys to join the early flight ever since it was made clear Mektel wouldn't be able to perform ranking-wise and I was so glad to see Khodayari finally going for it. Having him end second and scoring our first points ever is a great reward. 9th in the GC en 2nd KoM looks very nice but all can still be lost in the last few races. Fingers crossed he can maintain or even better his position, but whatever happens: we already have this to take home. Thanks to jph for the awesome reports!

Why Magnus? Why? At least Lunke is somewhat matching expectations, although being behind Keinath isn't so nice. Tore Hoem doing well is a nice surprise, as is Zimmermann sliding his way into 4th in U25.

Bjartne
The team is performing quite okay, the entire squad fighting for at op 50GC-placement, but it really doesn't help us, when no points are joining us back to France.

We need something special tomorrow Jaramillo!

Ulrich Ulriksen
Not great stuff from Kuss but he was 14th on the preview and is sitting 11th on GC so in range of expectations. Would like to see some guys in the breakaway.

Congrats Nemolito on another win.

Great job by Keinath to stay with Pinot and Ranaweera to protect his place in the standings. We can't allow Ndayisenga get away again, because next time he'll take that spot! Still hoping to see some breakaway involvement, because this peloton is lazy!

Congrats to Nemo on the win and thanks for the report Smile

Well, he delivered!

Great news for BBL's team goal too.

Well, this doesn't come entirely unexpected, but it's still a bummer. But this is where the efforts of the previous stages still pay off - I'm confident that Ndayisenga is not going to lose two more minutes on the final stage, so if he finishes seventh or even goes past Lunke, that is still a result I would have taken immediately before the race started, especially alongside two stage podiums. And if Hadi could hold on to his 20th overall, that would also be nice.

Congrats to Bjartne for the stage win and to Aidan for the GC (presumably)!

The PCM AI did everything I would have done if I was playing this stage with my Desigual boys. Get Jones and Nazaret in the break and hope for the best. For a while there it looked like it might actually pay off. Certainly made for an interesting stage to read nonetheless.

Big stage from Keinath. Strong performance being the only rider within 1min to Pinot, who dominates here. A bit unfortunate for him to not have the KoM lead by now or an additional stage win but still strongest by far showing Ranaweera his big experience.

Warbasse and Jaramillo deliver late but give the two team quite a bit as well.

Tomorrows hill stage could be interesting. I doubt it will lead to bigger gaps within the top5 but surely some late top10 riders could struggle and mix a bit.

Another impressive stage from Keinath to stay with Pinot till the end and pick up those bonus seconds as well. The buffer to Ranaweera is great to have with the hills on the final stage. Bardet falling further is a bit of a bummer and means we won't get any further sccoring in the GC. I wish we had some breakaway appearances in this race, as some of our riders are much lower in the GC than I would expect! Inkelaar possibly picking up some points in the U25s would be nice, and he won't be beating those above him in the standings much anyway this season.

Thanks for the report once again jph and congrats to Bjartne on the win Smile

Wow, that was a performance we needed! Just as good as a stage win for me probably better. Warbasse could not keep up with Pinot or Keinath, which is absolutely fine. Instead, he did well to hold his own pace, and eventually comes out with 3rd from the favorites, ahead of even Ranaweera! I said it would take something exceptional to get us where we wanted, and Larry delivered when it mattered.

To go in 7th and come out 4th is always great for points and prestige. But more importantly, it puts us in position to actually succeed in a goal this year. Every year, we always fail our goals, or maybe just grab one easy one. If we can hold on for one more stage, we'll have succeeded in our first goal race this year, one of the hardest. That's very important for the future of our team.

Of course, the race isn't over yet. We shouldn't get ahead of ourselves. Hill stage tomorrow. It should on paper favor Warbasse in keeping his place, but as we saw on stage 4, his puncheur legs might be more lacking this week. Let's see how it goes. Our strategy should be just to preserve. Get Warbasse home in the GC top 5, and get Eg and Fabbro home as quickly as possible for some minor points.

Big congrats to Bjartne on a great win! And thanks to jph for another great report.

Another day closer to the win! Still some work left if Pinot is to win the GC. He’s been doing everything right so far.

Pity about Valens dropping down. Congrats to Bjartne for that prediction Pfft

Great! Well the man knows how to deliver that’s for sure. Hope we will see similar strength in his other races.

Narrowly missed out on the KOM and team competition which would’ve been an awesome sweep! But we came here to win the GC and that’s was mission accomplished.

Congrats aidan. It's always easy to say Pinot is the favourite, but that also means he starts off knowing he can only confirm or do worse than expected, never surprise. Having that in mind, it's extra special he handled the pressure so calmly and just confirmed time after time. Hats off!

Hats off as well to you jph, for the amusing reports!

And finally hats off for my own Eyob. After stage 8 I totally gave up on him, but somehow he bettered his achievements, landed that top 20 spot in the general ranking (what was the ambition after all) and even secured us our first ever win.

Having Khodayari totally surpass himself by doing even better than Eyob and securing that 10th position makes this Vuelta a succes, even though planning wise we made a big error of judgement by not selecting any of our big group of sprinters. Can't blame my racers anything in the end, only myself.
