Pro Cyclist - Optimizing rider to win all types of race?

Im going to post all max stats increase per level, and update 1st post. Here is the first part:

Stat increase level 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8.

i was trying to become eddy merckx in pro cyclist mode since this mode came out
i never want 85 stats but i want like around 80 atribbutes that matters
for example 75 flat 81 montain 81 hill 75 prolougue and itt 75 downhill 80 sprint and acceleration 80 cobbles 76 stamina 77 resistence 78 recovery...that's how i view eddy merckx,like no weakness very well rounded
short answer,you can't be eddy merckx even with 2 specialities in pcm
only way it's to edit you potential and raise base stat according to how much you raised the potential and even then you might not reach all potential in atributtes
for example i always choose stage racer+sprinter and i raise potential to cobble and sprint and a little to stamina

i play tdf2020 on xbox and pro leader it's basically pro cyclist
there is versatille speciality and on that speciality you basically can win everything
this is versatille max out

i don't think pcm has versatille specialization in pcm,you should request this cause than you could create replicas of merckx,sagan,thomas,van aerts

I'll try my best to be Eddy Merckx, but I want to do it with what the game gives me, I dont want to change the stats in the editor, it takes the challenge away Smile

It's Northern classic / climber. It comes out better than northern / stage overall

So far I've won all the classics (maj, cobbles) and the Giro (only 44sec on the 2nd). Starting the TDF soon

I set out to do a similar thing. Win all 5 Monuments, both ITT and RR of both NC & WC and all jerseys of every GT.

I found you only need the following attributes in the high 70s: flat, mountain, hill, tt, cobbles and either mid 70s stamina and high 70s resistance or the other way around.

You only need the low 70s in these: sprint and acceleration to win sprints and points jerseys and recovery to win GTs.

Prologue, descending and barodeur are pretty much useless. You can't do any difference in a short time trial, you can attack and beat the whole peloton in a Monument with 70 downhill and I don't even know whether barodeur does anything at all.

With these stats, you only need to use your head more than the AI does. Protect your rider, measure your effort in TTs, never take any pulls, hide until they tire out themselves, always follow attacks by the favourites on the hills and never do it on mountains unless all of them attack at once.

You can only apply 1 potential increase because otherwise you can't fulfill all of your stats. So the following combos can reach all of the necessary stats:

Stage+northern classics
TT+stage, climber, sprinter, classics or barodeur
Puncher+stage or TT
Classics + stage or climber
Barodeur + climber or northern

Thanks for all the bits and pieces in this thread... Only started playing PCM again in the last few months (needed something else to do in lockdown and a change up from my usual FM sessions!) after a few years away so first time really playing with pro cyclist mode... Had been contemplating doing something similar so given me plenty of stuff to work with

Pretty sure from what I read elsewhere that the barodeur stat only comes in to play if you simulate stages, provides the riders tendency to try and get in breakaways etc... so for a pro cyclist mode where you are playing out the stages really no impact at all

I know I win Cobbles with 78, and 80 flat, could probably go lower in cobbles.
Can't win the TTs, TT probably a bit low and hills probably too low as well for TT.
I win the classics with 75 hills
Won all jersey at the Giro.
Tours probably doable with 79 Mountain

Spot on, it's way harder but much more interesting to play. I dont win all mountain stages on tours, just have to play smarter and do the best I can without blowing up. Way more rewarding when you actually win a mountain stage. And need to be very agressive to take a few seconds here and there during hilly stages, and time bonus on sprints.

Thats what I've done, only 1 potential increase in mountain and I agree, only 1 potential increase seems the best to reach the highest stats possible

I havent looked at all those axis, but I find stage + northern having a low sprint, if you raise potential once you wont even reach 70. And northern + stage, your max will be 78 mountain if you raise potential once, might be a bit low?

I havent tried the others but I might have a look at it, I'd like to have a guy a bit better in hills and TT.


Also it's very important to chose a good team. You want a few guys good in COB, you want a few sprint leadout, good in sprint but not too high otherwise you wont be the leader and have no team mates assigned to you. Similar in mountain, you want a bunch of guys good in mountain with maybe one or 2 just better than you.
And thats the hard part for the tours. You wont start as the leader. You have to grab the yellow jersey early so you will get team mates assigned to you, and your leader will become your team mate.

My current season I have Roglic and Bardet who became my team mates during the Giro when I got the jersey, but the rest of the team is pretty weak in mountain, which means if it's a stage with one big climb at the end I'm good, but if there is a lot of climbs, I end up half dead by myself at the bottom of the last climb Smile Jumbo as a lot of good climbers and kill my guys pretty early on.

Andrew7taylor (or anyone), do you have any tips for TT? I'm like top 5ish but 1 min away from the 1st.
If it's flat you just gotta find the right spot and you're good but hilly? I usually ride below the right spot on flat and a bit higher on climb, is it how you do it?

Won the TDF and all the jerseys. Easy the 1st 2 weeks (i was the best climber) but hard the last week.

Not too sure why. First 2 weeks was during my fitness peak and last week wasnt. But I was better during my fitness peak with +3 than after with +3, weird, has to be a hidden bonus of some sort during the fitness peak?

I think for TT you just need higher stats if you want to win it

Only thing I didnt win is National TT and World TT

Ok quick question for those that have played a bit more pro cyclist mode than i have...

Early on in career, was late in Level 2 then on last stage of my first tour had a big win and picked up multiple rewards (first tour/stage/jersey/long breakaway/etc etc) so picked up a whole pile of points which jumped me straight to Level 4

I had the 2 skill points to upgrade so that's fine, but only had 1 attribute upgrade choice available... have I now missed out on an upgrade chance because of that? or will all that upgrade now be included in just that 1 choice?

No, sadly the program only gives you 1 stats upgrade. So you'll have to give the other one to yourself.

Stage+northern is good enough because basically all your other stats are good from the start so you can take a potential in sprint and reach 72 sprint and 77 acceleration.

Even with 72 sprint you'll be a favourite from a small group and you can even win bunch sprints at GTs because the AI doesn't know what a leadout train is.

I've won Giro sprints with a time trialist with 68 sprint and 69 acc because I've used 2 guys to lead me out and both the sprinters and the GC guys just let me go. Even though I've been in the maglia rosa...

The classics + stage guy gets mountain between 72-75. You can put the potential into climber, because you don't need anything else. I find that you can win GTs even with 77 mountain, provided you have TT and engine good enough and the parcours is right. Sometimes there's even a cobbled stage at the Tour Angry
But if you start with 75 and add 4, then 79 is definitely enough for any kind of route as long as you race smart.

Agreed about the team. Of course if you have all the attributes north of 77, then any kind of race is winnable, especially if you peak at the right times. But it's easier if you have somebody to protect you.

And it's better in that regard if you're more focused at one-day races. At the classics your role is according to your stats only. But in GTs you can make your whole team work for you, even if you don't have the best stats but you're far ahead of your teammates in the rankings.

If there's a far better team than yours, then let them dictate the tempo in the mountains, even if you have the leader's jersey. Just maintain your position towards the front of the peloton, use energy smartly to do that (so less energy on flat and downhills, more energy the steeper an incline gets) and never use more energy that it make you blow up before you get to the top of a mountain. Even if that last rule makes you drop, it's better to let the idiots go and still be able to ride at a tempo until the finish rather than blow up and struggle at walking pace.

And of course, use every teammate to protect. And not just you, but if you have the whole team as a teammate, then it makes sense to use everybody to protect somebody. So in you example use the #5 guy to protect you, #6 to protect Roglic, #7 to protect Bardet and #8 to protect #4.
Then when they start to get dropped, always use the worse half of you team to protect the better half. There's no way you should arrive to the foot of the last climb of a stage half dead if you're always protected by somebody.

About the TTs, my method is to pick out a baseline tempo for flat (0%) then adjust for every single %. Eg. if the baseline is 70, then use 80 for 10% and 65 for -5%. The baseline depends on your stats, the length and the difficulty of the TT.
The AI just sets a tempo regardless of all of that and usually blows up well before the end of the stage. So especially if there's a climb at the end, you can take back an unreal amount of time just by not behaving like an idiot.
