I'd say it might be worth traveling to a bigger city and checking out the options there if you can. I guess it might be hard right now to do major travel, but Fargo or Grand Forks would likely have more selection, and maybe even cheaper but still fitting all your criteria.

Neither am I, yet here it goes Pfft

I'm a big fan of gut feeling when it comes to buying things like that (admittedly, I haven't bought anything in that price range yet, but I'm still talking notebooks or mobile phones, so not groceries Wink ).

What I mean by that is: If you like the bike, if you saw it at the store and you could really see yourself on it and you just want to have it - go for it. It's within your budget, it's the style of bike you want, what more do you need?

Maybe, if you wait and you continue to look in different places and check out different specs, you could get the same quality for a hundred bucks less, or maybe you could get a 5% better bike for the same money. But does that really matter when you sit on that bike this weekend and are enjoying yourself?

I've been very happy making decisions like that. I have friends who spent days and days mulling over every aspect of, for instance, a new phone. Sometimes, they're very happy because they're sure to have the best one for the best offer. Sometimes, they can't really enjoy it once they bought it, because they know there could have been three or four other models that maybe were just as good or even a bit better. I don't have those troubles Wink (for the record, I still do a decent amount of research, I don't buy something just because it looks fancy or something. But I think you get the point.)

Again, this is predicated on you being confident in the bike you saw at the store. Also, your mindset may differ, of course. But if you think that that purchase will make you happy, I wouldn't overthink it.

Thanks for the quick input on this. It's very helpful. I haven't made a big purchase like this in a while so getting second opinions is nice to see.

baseballlover312 & valverde321 make some solid points. It's still a little cold here so waiting a few weeks wouldn't hurt. And getting out to Grand Forks or Fargo might be worth it. And I see your logic as well cunego59, that's how I do most of my purchases as well. Problem with this one is they didn't have the bike in the shop, I only saw it on a computer screen and it would have to be shipped in from California (so it's a 1-2 weeks wait regardless). It sounded great, but I think seeing it in-person would have helped a lot.

I think my gut is telling me to wait.

The $3,000 price tag is near the top of what I'm willing to spend. I don't necessarily need a new top of the line bike, I'd be happy with a semi-decent bike to get started again. Like I said before, it's been almost four years since I've rode (so waiting a few more weeks to see what options become available wouldn't be the end of the world).

That sounds reasonable. Especially, if you haven't seen the bike in person.

Also, I just want to point out that, at least for a non-native speaker, Grand Forks is an incredibly funny name for a city Grin

I believe its named that way because of two rivers meeting.

Actually the top tourist spot in my city, is named The Forks for the same reason. : P

Never really thought about it like that though, but it does sound funny Smile

I mean, Grande Boucle Feminine International was a thing for about 20 years and was followed by La Route de France, and there was also Tour de l'Aude Cycliste Feminine. The list of winners for both is quite a good list of the best female racers since 1980, covering over 50 total races across the three events.
The first winner was Marianne Martin in 1984, who got to stand alongside Laurent Fignon on the podium. In fact across the two podiums there were three Americans in Martin, and two 3rd place finishers Deborah Shumway and a young Greg LeMond.

And just because it's one of favorite pieces of cycling trivia: the Giro Donne (female Giro) first climbed the Zoncolan in 1997, a full 6 years before the men got there

I know this isn't the right place, but I dont want to make a thread specifically for it.

But could we add a PCM 20 Stories section in the Stories sub section (or whatever its called)? There may be people that want to start a story but aren't because of it.

The section only appears after you log in, unlike others.

Also, have you guys considered moving the MG section after the Off-topic one? You have a lot of struggling to do to reach it right now.

Anybody else getting some kind of weird seasonal dysphoria without cycling? For 13 years, my July morning has involved waking up and watching the Tour de France. Without it, it strangely feels like "summer" as a phase of the year hasn't really kicked in for me. Not sure what I'm trying to say, except that I miss racing.
