Thanks for the late deal for De Vreese who will be Kraftwerk's cobbles leader (poor lad) but more importantly a useful helper - ironically I had Riesebeek on my shortlist but missed out on him chasing a cobbles leader I didn't get, typical transfers frustration.

Really hope that De Vreese will continue his performances in your jersey. Cant mention often enough how important he was to Gregs success last season. Will definitely cheer for him!

A weird transfer season came to an end where nothing seemed to happen for the first week and then our public relations team couldnt keep track of all the changes within our team. So here is overview about our team roster for the 2019 season:
| | FL | MO | HI | TT | ST | RS | RC | CB | SP | AC | FG | DH | PR | | Adam Blythe | 76 | 54 | 66 | 68 | 76 | 71 | 77 | 82 | 76 | 73 | 72 | 72 | 71 | | Krists Neilands | 75 | 56 | 68 | 63 | 72 | 71 | 69 | 76 | 69 | 67 | 63 | 71 | 67 | | Sven Nooytens | 75 | 52 | 64 | 68 | 76 | 70 | 70 | 76 | 69 | 67 | 71 | 66 | 68 | | Oscar Riesebeek | 74 | 70 | 73 | 67 | 73 | 75 | 69 | 73 | 69 | 72 | 76 | 71 | 71 | | Tomas Paprstka | 73 | 62 | 69 | 62 | 72 | 69 | 67 | 73 | 68 | 72 | 69 | 78 | 63 | | Jan Oelerich | 74 | 60 | 72 | 64 | 74 | 69 | 73 | 73 | 64 | 65 | 73 | 65 | 64 | | Dries De Bondt | 74 | 62 | 67 | 57 | 71 | 69 | 67 | 71 | 72 | 74 | 76 | 61 | 57 |
Relying on a strong cobbles team has been a key part of the Evonik DNA since the team was founded in 2014. When the announcement was made that Greg Van Avermaet would leave the team during transfers, some internet trolls spread the rumour that we would replace him with a time triallist. Of course that was not true: Adam Blythe is the new star of our cobbles campaign. The Brit arrived in a complicated deal that could be summed up as 1.27M + Greg Van Avermaet. His support includes Sven Nooytens who returned for another season after transfer rumors were going around, versatile domestiques Jan Oelerich and Oscar Riesebeek as well as the talented trio of Krists Neilands, Tomas Paprstka and Dries De Bondt who are all expected to make the final step of their development for us. Other versatile riders will also participate in our cobbled team depending on the exact profiles of the races.
| | FL | MO | HI | TT | ST | RS | RC | CB | SP | AC | FG | DH | PR | | Miguel Angel Lopez | 69 | 78 | 79 | 70 | 74 | 73 | 73 | 50 | 65 | 76 | 78 | 70 | 71 | | Andris Vosekalns | 66 | 78 | 75 | 62 | 69 | 73 | 72 | 51 | 67 | 71 | 81 | 68 | 62 | | Kaspars Sergis | 68 | 75 | 76 | 58 | 69 | 73 | 73 | 58 | 58 | 70 | 76 | 66 | 58 | | Andrei Sakalou | 66 | 76 | 75 | 65 | 63 | 72 | 72 | 54 | 60 | 72 | 77 | 62 | 65 | | Mike Aaron Egger | 66 | 75 | 74 | 55 | 70 | 76 | 71 | 59 | 64 | 74 | 73 | 65 | 55 | | Ahmed Youssef Belgasem | 71 | 74 | 73 | 69 | 69 | 71 | 70 | 71 | 70 | 71 | 65 | 58 | 71 |
Evonik might not be known for the long history of elite stage racers but dont fool yourself into believing that we cannot score in mountainous races: Miguel Angel Lopez is one of the quickest rising stars in professional cycling and he is our main Grand Tour leader this year while Vosekalns has proven time and time again that he is a lot stronger than pundits want to admit. Kaspars Sergis, Andrei Sakalou and Mike Aaron Egger were our versatile attacking climbers / hill support last year and they all returned for the 2019 season. Ahmed Youssef Belgassem will leave us after the season but he is a very valuable addition as he will be a valuable asset on every terrain.
| | FL | MO | HI | TT | ST | RS | RC | CB | SP | AC | FG | DH | PR | | Yannick Stoltz | 80 | 62 | 68 | 66 | 76 | 79 | 75 | 65 | 62 | 74 | 85 | 73 | 80 |
The Man that won a time trial stage for Evonik. The Man that creates echelons like others post gifs. The Man that is loved by everyone except his opponents on the road. He is the legend. He is the fan favourite. He is the Yannick Stoltz. You may not know his face but you have heard the tales of his racing. Any further explanation of his skills doesnt match his abilities so let the fact that he gets his own category named after him speak for itself.
| | FL | MO | HI | TT | ST | RS | RC | CB | SP | AC | FG | DH | PR | | Michael Van Stayen | 76 | 64 | 79 | 60 | 76 | 71 | 80 | 69 | 84 | 78 | 73 | 63 | 60 | | Mark Dzamastagic | 78 | 66 | 70 | 65 | 76 | 72 | 76 | 66 | 76 | 78 | 78 | 66 | 65 | | Emils Liepins | 73 | 60 | 66 | 59 | 73 | 68 | 77 | 55 | 78 | 79 | 58 | 58 | 60 | | Ingus Eislers | 75 | 67 | 66 | 59 | 74 | 75 | 72 | 57 | 77 | 74 | 64 | 61 | 59 | | Armands Becis | 74 | 68 | 73 | 69 | 73 | 75 | 73 | 68 | 74 | 74 | 78 | 65 | 74 |
Two sprinters who are the definition of versatile and three Latvians - that is our sprint team. Michael Van Stayen earned himself the nickname "Frankenstayen" with his strong performance on both hilly and flat parcours. Dzamastagic is one of the most hyped leadout riders in the peloton and is capable of surprising the peleton and fans alike with aggressive attacks before the finish line. Emils Liepins returns home for the third Evonik stint of his career. He joined us in 2015, was sold in 2016 because he wasnt ready for Pro Tour cycling yet, was loaned to us in 2017 and now in 2019 he is finally back where he belongs. Ingus Eislers is already 30 but he is one of the most well rounded sprinters and he still has a lot of potential to grow while Armands Becis is already in his prime but he is equally well rounded and can be an important asset in all sorts of races.
| | FL | MO | HI | TT | ST | RS | RC | CB | SP | AC | FG | DH | PR | | Toms Skujins | 70 | 70 | 83 | 59 | 80 | 77 | 73 | 67 | 68 | 76 | 66 | 66 | 59 | | Andris Smirnovs | 68 | 68 | 77 | 56 | 74 | 69 | 67 | 68 | 72 | 78 | 78 | 70 | 56 | | Arvin Moazemi | 67 | 73 | 78 | 69 | 72 | 72 | 75 | 62 | 65 | 73 | 65 | 63 | 67 | | Indulis Bekmanis | 68 | 64 | 75 | 69 | 73 | 67 | 68 | 62 | 72 | 78 | 74 | 67 | 69 |
When we list only four men as part of our hills squad that is a big lie because at least half of our team feels at home over the hills but these four hills are particularly specialised on the shorter climbs you'd typically find in the Ardennes. The Latvian babyface, Toms Skujins, will continue leading us into another Pro Tour season while his longterm domestiques Andris Smirnovs and Indulis Bekmanis will continue accelerating the pace on the hills for him. Arvin Moazemi was a late surprise addition but he will be very valuable as another Toms Skujins lieutenant.

Overall we are quite satisfied with our transfer season as we replaced Van Avermaet with another cobbler of a similar quality that will still be in his prime for the 2020 season when both Michael Van Stayen and Miguel Angel Lopez are in their primes. Also we have improved our depth quite a bit compared to last season - partly due to returning riders like Lopez and Liepins but also due to new signings like Moazemi or Riesebeek. We would have preferred to go with a more efficient way of using the cap as we dont think a 23 man roster is ideal and we actually have 100k of our loan cap left and would have prefered some more young assets for the future but couldnt add them due to how long it took to secure a new leader.

Top 5 Pro Tour Ranking
Despite the imminent departure of Greg Van Avermaet we were confident that we can improve from last seasons 8th place finish so we settled on an ambitious but realistic top 5 rankings goal.
Top 3 Milan San Remo
Michael Van Stayen is our perennial MSR leader and finished 3rd, 1st and 8th in the last three editions of this monument. It should be of no surprise that we have high expectations for this race again as we want to return onto the podium.
Top 10 Liege - Bastogne - Liege
Another monument and another race with a good Evonik track record. Skujins finished the last three editions 3rd, 10th and 2nd for us and we hope that he will add his fifth top ten LBL finish in a row this year.
Top 10 Ronde Van Vlaanderen
This race was always one of our season highlight ever since promoting to the Protour as it was the perfect race for Greg Van Avermaet. After two second places he finally beat Sam Bewley last year. We hope that his successor will be equally succesful in this race as we hope for a fourth straight Evonik podium or at least the top ten result that we promised our sponsors.
A GT Goal
We know that all of you expect to read another "Win Tour de France" Goal but not even this manager is stupid enough to do that. The Tour de France has a team time trial this year so this year's GT goal is to win either the Giro or the Vuelta. Which one? Nobody in the team management remembers that.

We continue another season with the 2018 design of our jersey representing the Latvian colors as well as the yellow that has been part of our jerseys since 2014. We'd like to thank the creator duo aidanvn13 and the_hoyle for this wonderful jersey. |

End of Season Lineup Previews
For the first time in our team's history we have been dragged deep into the bottom half of the table and find ourself in the mids of a tough relegation fight as we are currently sitting just one spot above the line.
Pos | Last | | Team | Total | RD | PpRD | Proj | 13 | 8 | | eBuddy | 3828 | 133 | 28,78 | 5497 | 14 | 19 | | Team Tinkoff | 3777 | 125 | 30,22 | 5772 | 15 | 17 | | Indosat Ooredoo - ANZ | 3737 | 125 | 29,9 | 5711 | 16 | 16 | | SPAR - Siam Cement | 3457 | 136 | 25,42 | 4855 | 17 | 14 | | Evonik - ELKO | 3446 | 128 | 26,92 | 5142 | 18 | 21 | | Repsol - Netflix | 3188 | 133 | 23,97 | 4578 | 19 | 20 | | Fablok - Bank BGZ | 3140 | 133 | 23,61 | 4510 | 20 | 15 | | T-Mobile | 3092 | 128 | 24,16 | 4615 | 21 | 22 | | Farfetch Pro Cycling | 3002 | 125 | 24,02 | 4588 | 22 | 18 | | Podium Ambition | 2872 | 133 | 21,59 | 4124 |
However, we still have ten solid races and one weird solo training ride left on our schedule and we'd like to present our rosters for each of these races:
| | FL | MO | HI | TT | ST | RS | RC | CB | SP | AC | FG | DH | PR | | Miguel Angel Lopez | 69 | 78 | 79 | 70 | 74 | 73 | 73 | 50 | 65 | 76 | 78 | 70 | 71 | | Arvin Moazemi | 67 | 73 | 78 | 69 | 72 | 72 | 75 | 62 | 65 | 73 | 65 | 63 | 67 | | Andris Vosekalns | 66 | 78 | 75 | 62 | 69 | 73 | 72 | 51 | 67 | 71 | 81 | 68 | 62 | | Emils Liepins | 73 | 60 | 66 | 59 | 73 | 68 | 77 | 55 | 78 | 79 | 58 | 58 | 60 | | Kaspars Sergis | 68 | 75 | 76 | 58 | 69 | 73 | 73 | 58 | 58 | 70 | 76 | 66 | 58 | | Mike Aaron Egger | 66 | 75 | 74 | 55 | 70 | 76 | 71 | 59 | 64 | 74 | 73 | 65 | 55 | | Ingus Eislers | 75 | 67 | 66 | 59 | 74 | 75 | 72 | 57 | 77 | 74 | 64 | 61 | 59 | | Ahmed Youssef Belgasem | 71 | 74 | 73 | 69 | 69 | 71 | 70 | 71 | 70 | 71 | 65 | 58 | 71 |
The TDF is already running and we have sent one of the strongest squads we've ever send to a Grand Tour. We have send a squad full of strong riders capable of contesting sprints, hilly sprints or on mountainous stages from a break and will contest for the white and polkadot jersey. Check out the fantastic race reports of the stages that already took place!
| | FL | MO | HI | TT | ST | RS | RC | CB | SP | AC | FG | DH | PR | | Yannick Stoltz | 80 | 62 | 68 | 66 | 76 | 79 | 75 | 65 | 62 | 74 | 85 | 73 | 80 | | Indulis Bekmanis | 68 | 64 | 75 | 69 | 73 | 67 | 68 | 62 | 72 | 78 | 74 | 67 | 69 | | Tomas Paprstka | 73 | 62 | 69 | 62 | 72 | 69 | 67 | 73 | 68 | 72 | 69 | 78 | 63 |
We participate here too.
| | FL | MO | HI | TT | ST | RS | RC | CB | SP | AC | FG | DH | PR | | Toms Skujins | 70 | 70 | 83 | 59 | 80 | 77 | 73 | 67 | 68 | 76 | 66 | 66 | 59 | | Andris Smirnovs | 68 | 68 | 77 | 56 | 74 | 69 | 67 | 68 | 72 | 78 | 78 | 70 | 56 | | Arvin Moazemi | 67 | 73 | 78 | 69 | 72 | 72 | 75 | 62 | 65 | 73 | 65 | 63 | 67 | | Mark Dzamastagic | 78 | 66 | 70 | 65 | 76 | 72 | 76 | 66 | 76 | 78 | 78 | 66 | 65 | | Andris Vosekalns | 66 | 78 | 75 | 62 | 69 | 73 | 72 | 51 | 67 | 71 | 81 | 68 | 62 | | Yannick Stoltz | 80 | 62 | 68 | 66 | 76 | 79 | 75 | 65 | 62 | 74 | 85 | 73 | 80 | | Kaspars Sergis | 68 | 75 | 76 | 58 | 69 | 73 | 73 | 58 | 58 | 70 | 76 | 66 | 58 | | Andrei Sakalou | 66 | 76 | 75 | 65 | 63 | 72 | 72 | 54 | 60 | 72 | 77 | 62 | 65 |
This race should suit our lineup very well until the final two stages. Skujins should be one of the strongest puncheurs in the race and has a strong climber like Vosekalns as his co-leader. The duo is supported by a group of strong puncheurs/climbers with Moazemi, Smirnovs, Sergis and Sakalou who all add fantastic value in a race like this. The team is completed by two of the strongest rouleurs in the entire division with Dzamastagic and Stoltz. Both of them add further chances for stage results to the team as Stoltz is amongst the favourites for the opening stage while Dzamastagic is a strong sprinter who shouldnt be ruled out if one of the early flattish stages ends in a (reduced) mass sprint.

This race has been a fantastic race for us over the past few years. This year we have another leader here but this has also been a race that suited Blythe in the past, finishing 4th in his last two participations. The usual cobble support is with him so not a lot to say about them.

A flat PTHC race that could end in a mass sprint? How about trying to break the peleton and take those unknowing PCT teams by surprise? Late attacks? Crosswinds? We are prepared with one of the strongest flat teams you'll see with lots of rouleurs and classic specialists and a powerful sprint train.

Before the season started, we had a lot of hope for this race but Skujins struggled at times on similar profiles so we are unsure how much we can expect here. Still - a mostly hillish race without a time trial and we have a strong hilly support for Skujins sounds like a good opportunity for us to score more points.

There are multiple ways to set up your team for ToNE and we decided to maximize the support for Blythe on the cobbles. The entire "usual cobbles team" is here for us with the exception of De Bondt who is replaced by allrounder Becis.

Another race with cobbles, another tiny twist to our usual cobble team: Oelerich didnt make the race selection. Instead it is Dzamastagic who will complete our team. This race often produces a sprint from a larger group than you might expect looking at the profile and Dzamastagic is capable of surviving some cobbles so there is a chance that he can feature in a possible sprint finish.

2016: Greg Van Avermaet (Evonik - ELKO)
2017: Mark Dzamastagic (Evonik - ELKO)
2018: Michael Van Stayen (Evonik - ELKO)
We wrote history in the past in this race, winning the race three times in a row with three different riders in three different ways. Tough to imagine a fourth one but we have once again brought a terrific squad for flat races to support Van Stayen and we are ready to make the impossible happen. again.

Van Stayen is our leader for us in this race and he has a team that is build to survive all the small bumps on stage one as well as possible as well as being able to help him on the tough second stage.

Final race of the season and we are going all out with all our good puncheurs and most of our good climbers. Skujins and Lopez should cover a lot of the possibilities that this race could go and we are curious to see how this race plays out.
We are cautiously optimistic that these lineups should be strong enough to avoid the drop but we also thought that we wouldnt be in this position in the first place. Do you think we have enough point scoring left or do you see us in immediate danger?
A Big Thank You To All MG Reporters!

Id say the Latvians are dragging your team down, they are really not cut for the level and should be released at the end of the year

You should stay up with ease. The team is too great to fall. Also nice to see you back in the HQ section

It would be a huge letdown if you should end up relegating! I can't see it happening though, as you have a great lineup in most races. Much stronger than mine atleast - Maybe I'm the one who needs to be concerned!

quadsas - sure. That bum Vosekalns in especially has never shown his jersey in all those years. And that Eislers dude - 47 years old and still not maxed. Why are they even on my team in the first place?
Croatia - i sure hope so. And its been a long time since my last hq post so it was certainly due :0
sotd - doubt i can get that huge gap closed to you
I think some of those lineups look stronger than they are. Eg Tasmania might end up basically a pointer; Portugal/Balkan/Lombardia could all have a bit too much of a MO impact to suit Skujins in this PCM and the other races have quite a bit of variance in their scoring so my remaining point scoring potential might be a bit deceptive in that aspect.
A Big Thank You To All MG Reporters!

Unchanged Sponsorship Situation
Today the team management of Evonik - ELKO announces that the team will continue to exist in 2020 under the same flag as in 2019. Both title sponsors remain on board for the coming season.
The future of the team was questioned over the last weeks when rumors spreaded that Evonik wanted to slow down their investment into sport sponsoring and the team took a long time to confirm their financial plan required for approval as a PT team which further fueled speculation. A proposal that the team starts as Evonik - ELKO in classics and 1&1 - ELKO in stage races was blocked by the MGUCI stating that teams repeatedly changing sponsors during the season would not be good for advertising of cycling races and cycling as a whole. As a consequence the contract with Evonik that lasts till the end of the 2020 season will be fulfilled. |

1&1 - ELKO what a classic that would be and a very well deserved relegation candidate (though I doubt they'd even manage to sign up in time with that sponsorship)
