Liking the start list here... Initally I had Phinney locked down for the Vuelta, but as I saw Popo4Ever getting a WC and thus having to race against Pluchkin, I had to think about it. Before I even considered Phinney as an real option, I had picked a win goal in the TdF. So with that in mind we decided to send our best guys there, hoping that a win in the TTT will give a something similar start to what he could have had in the prologue in the Vuelta. Let's see how it turns out, I'm clearly extremly happy with the field in the Giro and in the Vuelta so far.
Should be a great race to follow, with two of the greatest GT riders in Pluchkin and Taaramae. My fingers are crossed for our fellow Norwegian team, Aker!
For ourselves it's a decent team. Had to bring Würtz to two GTs because of his development, and hopefully he can show himself here. Nesset and Iturria had a good race in the Giro, so something similar would be great. And perhaps we even can get to see Bertilsson sprinting.
Thanks for the great preview, Tamijo!

Taaramae in the leaders jersey already. Love it!
Lopez with a pretty solid prologue. Quite unusual to have a leader perform in a tt as well as he did

Velits in the top 10 already. Love it!
24/02/21 - kandesbunzler said “I don't drink famous people."
15/08/22 - SotD said "Your [jandal's] humour is overrated"
11/06/24 - knockout said "Winning is fine I guess. Truth be told this felt completely unimportant."

So do I!
Good ride from him and Keinath.
Olivier not so good but this was expected.
Really not sure how they do in the stages later on.
Guess Olivier might be best normally in the 3rd week but the one with most time to gain in especially if the hills don`t deliver too much.
So him and Keinath hopefully start to attack while Velits rides slowly for a decent GC. |

Great start for Rein. Congrats ember!
A surprisingly good TT by Nesset and a solid performance from Iturria too. It was always going to be too hilly for Wurtz, but at least he did a good ride on the flat. Fingers crossed he will be able to save his legs for the second TT now.

That's the perfect start! And thank you, tastasol and alexkr00
Very close though, but getting the win and the jersey is potential very big regarding the early points here. Now we just need to be alert and take responsibility for chasing down/helping teams of sprinters to chase down breakaways on the three next stages.
Also good to see us do well team wise. We basically want everything from this race, team classification included, and a 20 seconds lead after the prologue is a solid start. Though, admittedly that classification will probably go to any team playing a major part in the breakaways succeeding, assuming they will.
Thank you for the report, Tamijo, please keep the good news coming! |

What could have been... Tenorio a second off from trading the Spanish ITT NC jersey for his home tour GC leader's jersey once again. Fingers crossed for no bad stages and he just stays in the mix throughout the whole tour.

Only just seen the discussion thread for the Vuelta. Our team is all XP based/race day using up with nothing but minor breakaway hopes. Maybe we can grab a stage win like the Giro. But again we have zero expectations so anything we do is a bonus!

A shame Keizer couldn't get those 4 seconds more, would've been a stellar start - now it's time for Kump to show our colours

First I though, Van der Poel should wait until the final sprint to maybe get a top10, though tbh not knowing if he would even participate then.
Seeing him in the break was fine obviously, fighting for the KoM was fine as well even though surely not the ideal rider.
Seeing him drop then was unlucky.
When the break made it to the finish, I was like....hmm missed opportunity being the lone guy dropped with a good sprint as well...
Olivier one of the faster behind was good though. |

Lol didn't think I would ever wear a GT, then Plucinski of all people does it! We've already accomplished more than what we did in the Giro and it's only stage 2

Love the attempt by Lopez but pretty annoyed that the break got through. Probably would have been the u25 jersey already if it wasnt for them.
That said congrats to everyone who had a rider in that front group

Thank you for a very good report, Tamijo. Trying to be objective about it, a big breakaway on such a stage always felt like an option, eventhough I can't remember to have seen a breakaway succeed THAT early in a GT before.
That was an unfortunate turn of events looking at our team, as we seemed to perfectly placed after the prologue to hold the red jersey for the whole first week. Not anymore, though! Stage 5 seems to be the chance to get it back, and hopefully we can stay safe through the upcoming flat stages. |

Cool stage! Would have liked to see us in the break, but think it would have been hard for our riders to be able to fight for the win anyway. Thanks for the report, Tamijo!

It looks like it's not Grosu you have to worry about in these mind of stages, Croatia
Gerts with a good sprint in the pack which could have resulted in a very good stage result if it wasn't for the breakaway.
It's a shame to see Taaramae potentially losing the chance to lead the race from day one until the end of the race.

As long as Kump leads him out that well on normal stages...
