»CADF intelligence indicates that Astana Pro Team cyclist Jakob FUGLSANG is under Michele FERRARI’s doping program, and that teammate Alexey LUTSENKO was present during at least one meeting between the two in Nice/Monaco«, the report says.
»CADF has provided intelligence suggesting that Michele FERRARI continues to be involved in the doping of athletes at the Astana Pro Team and is believed to have travelled to Monaco and other locations to meet with the cyclists«, the report says concerning the suspicion against Fuglsang who is in fact resident in Monaco.

I have doubts its MAL, considering that MAL hasn't really put a "wow" performance or got a major boost in performance, contrary to Fuglsang or even Lutsenko (more his mountain performances than anything).
If anything the other rider isn't from Astana. Wouldn't surprise if a certain slovenian was involved.... |

First time Ferrari has been linked with Astana based on witnesses? Nope. Did anything happen on those multiple occasions? Nope. Will anything happen this time around? Probably not.
Without adverse analytical findings, or a succesful raid on riders homes/team property that finds doping products, we won't see much from this. Reports he was seen around certain locations, that alone won't lead to any major action.
I'm sure Astana can distance themselves enough as a team to avoid real punishment, seeing a ban for Fuglsang after a long appeal process through CAS right as he retires.
Interesting timing for a leak to come out of CADF, right as the UCI confirms it's intention to fold the unit into the ITA. Does feel like there might be some political work at play as well.... Which is a very pressimistic view to take i know, but we really don't see major cases like this come off. Although i'd love to see Astana collapse at long long last

Let's see whether somethings come out of it. Ferrarri claims to have never been in Monaco over the last 10 years, but that should be pretty easy to find out. I don't trust a single word of what he's saying. But let's wait for further news.
I'll give the cyclists the benefit of the doubt. Obviously such "news link" sells well (especially in combination with Astana and/or Ferrari), so let's findout whether it's a fluke or the truth. At the end of the day everything points towards one source, now it will be interesting whether that source is reliable or not.

While I agree on Fuglsang, Lutsenko hasn't been developing in a different manner than he was ought to develop. In fact, MALs jump from 2017 to 2018 was much higher than Lutsenkos this year.

But that certain Slovenian got better every year and not at once. Does that mean he steadily increased his input? Stupid point...
Also check this quote by Brian Holm, both to your Roglic allegation and more importantly towards the whole Fuglsang and Lutsenko (used to be Top10 at the beginning of the year as well):
When Brian Holm was commentating the San Juan race last evening on Eurosport, he said he had heard that top 10 on the world ranking is automatically been investigating to check if there is anything going on. |

MAL's transition from 2017 to 18 was pretty legit, after all, he was almost the best climber in that Vuelta bar Contador and Froome.
Time will tell about Roglic, his jump from 2016 to 2017 is suspicious and completely possible to still improve at his age even if doping; 2018 to 2019 is even crazier when you look at the stats.

If this is true and both were colluding with "Doctor" Ferrari, then the UCI will have a primal reason to kick Astana out of pro-cycling. It's bad enough that Vinokurov is still in the sport. If Lance Armstrong is banned for life, why other scummy figures like Vinokurov and Bjarne Riis still have roles in pro-cycling teams? In English football there is fit-and-proper-person test and I think all sports should apply such methods

I need to jump in here and point out the FA Fit-and-proper-person test relates only to Finances. It has zero relation to doping (or ethical) situations.
To make any comparison between that, and cycling, is massively incorrect! The closest cycling equivalent is the UCI's WT License review system, as that looks at a teams finances alongside other questions on doping and points and logistics. And even then it's a very weak comparison.
It is also very hard to put a life ban on an individual. A single doping offence does not carry a life ban (debate that as much as you want elsewhere), even two or three offences don't equate to a life ban. Lifetime bans are reserved for the most extreme of cases. LA, and related people, are part of this due to the repeated offences of doping, of intimidation, and the whole damn charade that went along with it all.
Vinokourov, if you can believe it, has only been caught once for doping. Since becoming Manager of Astana in 2013 they've only had two positive tests (the Iglinskiy bros). These cases don't get close to equalling a lifetime ban. (yes we know it's worse than this, but what we believe does not matter)
Riis is a different case, because he's admitted to so much of his own actions during his riding career (although smartly has never admitted to anything that happened at CSC/Stinkoff/Saxo) and that could be enough to give him a lifetime ban. Although again he's quite clever in offering the appearance of being sorry and helping combat the problem.
Anyway, this is getting rather off-topic....

Amador likely to join Team Ineos as his contract with Movistar was now terminated after all the arguments last season.
Surely one of the greatest GT helpers you can have and with Sky might even get some freedom on the cobbles in the spring.
Jimmy Turgis has to retire with heart rhytm issues. Same as his younger brother Tanguy one year ago.
Let`s hope the third brother Anthony won`t get the same issue. |
