Can we make up an award so that I have a chance at winning something? I've been on this site for years and I think I've come close to 2 awards ever, best avatar one year and then I would've won newcomer but had joined a few weeks too early iirc.

Member Who's Not Won An Award Award!
But of course, once you win the award you are dsq because you won an award and it goes to second. Who gets dsq because they won an award and it goes to thrid... and so on until everyone has won the award at least once! #fixed

Yeah, I got lucky with Best Avatar. Every year, the awards kind of remind me that I have never really produced anything of substance for the community. I just consume its content. I'm basically a leech.

It occurred to me recently that my cycling knowledge probably peaked around 2013-2014. I have very little idea of who's who anymore.

It's very similar for me, mine was probably at its peak between 2011 and 2014 and has gone downhill ever since. I guess a big factor for that is growing up and subsequently not having the time anymore.
Another thing that's true though is that playing pcm definitely helped a lot to keep up with new transfers, riders etc. As the game got worse and worse every year for a few years I basically stopped playing it and so my cycling knowledge got worse because of that too. Probably also one of the reasons why the forum unfortunately keeps on dying, as there's nearly no new users, because a lot of the latest PCMs were very average to say the least.
Last few ones seem a bit better though so maybe there's still some hope left for us.

Indeed, PCM and sports games in general are vital for fans growing in knowledge of the sport. I went from barely knowing a few races more than the TDF in 2011, to knowing almost every WT and PCT team, rider, and race within a few months. All because I played a ton of PCM.

Definitely true that PCM helped turn an interest in cycling into an obsession with hugely deep knowledge! But as a game it never really developed, and when put up against things like FM or Fifa or Madden etc etc it's just completely lacking.
That and following cycling itself is becoming increasingly difficult. I don't have Eurosport so i'm limited to whatever is on free-to-air TV in the UK. It's a good selection (TDF, Vuelta, ToB, ToY, Tour Series, Track Worlds, Road Worlds and a few other odd highlights) but tracking down good quality wider highlights is almost impossible.
Certainly compared to following the EPL, NFL, NHL, or a ton of motorsport all of which have jumped way ahead of cycling as an inerest. Partly why i spend way more time making posts in other non-cycling threads, because cycling means a lot less to me these days.
TBH Daily is one of my main sources of cycling news and results and info, without here i'd be lost on new talent coming through and results from mid-tier WT races and below...

It's time for my somehow still annual Oscars rant! Although it is becoming less and less rant-y each year.
It's only nominations day and i've only got two of the Best Film's yet to see, way ahead of schedule this year. Can't comment on Little Women or Ford vs Ferrari, but honestly i can't see past 1917 or The Irishman taking the award.
Can't understand how Di Caprio got a Best Actor nom this year, then i remembered he's Di Caprio and everyone is way too in love with the man. To not give Daniel KFCraig a chance for Knives Out is a shame, one of the best roles of the last year!
But it's Joaquin Phoenix's for sure so honestly doesn't matter.
If Sir Sam Mendes doesn't get Best Director i'll be stunned, i'm stunned he hasn't swept all the awards already to be honest. 1917 is a truly stunning masterpiece, expect it to clean up the Techincal catagories.
Can't comment on a lot because i've yet to see Bombshell, Judy, Pain & Glory, A Beautiful Day In The Neighbourhood which take up the rest of the main catagories.
But i can say the best film i've seen in the last year was 1917, and by some distance. This is something special and you must experience it in a cinema!

Haven't seen all of the award nominated films, but Parasite is probably the best movie I've seen in the last year for sure, so far. Haven't seen Irishman, Joker or 1917 but Parasite would probably be getting even more recognition if it wasnt a foreign film, and I cant think of many movies like it, executed as well. The layers to all its themes work perfectly as well.

Holy f*ck i just realised Apollo 11 did not get a nomination for Documentary! F*cking what? It's a stunning look at the moon landing and one of the tightest and best made documentaries of the last few years.... God this makes me want to rant...
Parastite is a smart movie, well shot and written, but i can pick out a lot of the ideas and story beats from other films before. And i feel you could get the same story across in a book or a play.
1917 however is something that can only work as a film. The use of the medium is brilliant and elevates a normal war story into something so much more.
I will always rate a film higher for it's techincal aspects, use of film as a medium above how it is as a story or idea. But that's because i'm a film nerd and love getting stuck into the details. It's why i think The Irishman has a better shot to win, although knowing the Academy don't be surprised to see QT up on stage claiming the big prize.
And no offence to Parasite, but if Roma can't beat Green Book, it stands no chance against the other three i've mentioned. Roma, f*cking incredible

Parasite is incredible. Very smart and entertaining. Though I don’t think it will win best picture, got my two cents on either 1917 or Tarantino. Would also be very glad if either Brad Pitt or Joe Pesci won best supporting actor - I think Pitt even outplayed Di Caprio this time.
Now, I am quite disappointed there wasn’t any Lupita Nyong’o nomination for her role in “Us” (not surprised), surely the film had lesser agenda and marketing compared to Get Out but she was a masterpiece in two different complex characters... one could dream. |

Alright guys, real talk. How anti-Semitic does my new avatar look? I'm not so sure I can keep it this way. It's tough though. I was originally gonna write "ICA," but they aren't called Israel Cycling Academy anymore, so that doesn't work.

I have another cool avatar variation lined up, though so far it might not be obvious at 100x100 pixels, I might have to work on it some more.
Also, for a chuckle, I have come up with the idea of "dowjacking" other avatars. Already a while back I did it with trekbmc:
And recently I added a tastasol variant:
The madness never stops.
