Burgos-BH already having a great Vuelta. Stage victory for Madrazo at the front of the race! Jetse Bol even comes across to get second for the team.

4th place for Superman, so he'll be going back into Red today. About a 7-ish second gap from Superman crossing the line to Roglic and Valverde crossing.

Well that is going to put the cat among the pigeons early on. Quintana, Kuss, Chaves finishing almost a minute behind Superman.

So Stage 5 and we've already got just under a minute separating first, M.A. Lopez, from sixth, Rigoberto Uran. Roglic sitting +14s behind Superman in second currently, with Quintana limiting the damage to +23s and third in GC. He'll want to find his climbing legs though, Valverde just a few seconds off in fourth.

MADRAZO!
Lost count of how many times he got dropped, 5 times? Bumped and nearly taken out by his own team car too, A...MAZ...ING.

Amazing win for Madrazo and great stage overall. Pogacar is something else, step aside Fabito.
Plus Sepp Kuss looking like he could have challenged MAL Give a chance to this guy one day. |

Of note that this is a team who last year had a bunch of positives, and who until July this year had completelly sucked ass, and we see Angel Madrazo being in the break all days thus far basically, and doing what he did today, while famous climber Jetse Bol beats Herrada.
Yeah, sure |

They already were. It would interesting actually if Valverde and Quintana actually work well together since Nairo is leaving the team.

Basically with 6km to go I was totally sure Herrada has it in his bag.
When Madrazo was dropped it was simply a question of minutes to see Herrada attacking.
But in the end it all was the exact opposite. So yes, while it is cool to see someone fighting and making a comeback, this was a very weird final indeed, which you don`t see often in pro cycling. |

Valverde did the right thing. Both cards need to be as close as possible to Roglic and Lopez, and that's what they did. They need both in the high mountains, so that one can attack and one can sit back.

Wait a minute, they lost 10min in a 7km climb (with lots of downhill sections). I mean they have a shady background sure, and I'm not trying to defend them, but all three of them were on their very limit and Madrazo had already tried to distance Herrada 2 times before the finish. Herrada's face with 2km to go was of complete agony. Madrazo just pounced on that and on the thrill of having just managed to get back to the front duo at the end.

Irrespective of anything else Herrada was just weaker than anyone expected and the three lost huge amounts of time on a twenty odd minute climb up the last, harder bit of 7.5km.
It's not like he hasn't got any pedigree but were they thinking more of Jesus than Jose?
If they weren't given free rein for the stage until 20km to go, with no team wanting to take it on then the silly, slow mass crash, they would've been blown away.

Didn't Madrazo used to be a promising climber as well before becoming a breakaway rider? I think it was also a bit of a show yesterday to get dropped and attack in the end.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

No images of it it seems (for now at least) but it looks like it was a massive one, so much bad luck and CCC's only leader not heavily affected by crashes this season is now GVA
