He could have at least tried, you know. And judging by the finish Kruijswijk didn't look exactly great either.

Awesome stage win for Nibali.
Anyway I feel that the short stages yesterday and today didn't have any impact on the expected final rankings.
Just how can Movistar make a team strategy with 3 leaders ? |

No GC action was very disappointing but at least 4th for Buchmann could kickstart some nice cycling hype in germany. Brunswick on 3rd is alright but he could have tried for 2nd but I guess podium is more important. Brumswick was too close too many times

In order for a short stage to work, especially one this short with only one climb, the final mountain needs to be very explosive. Val Thorens seemed like the absolute worst type of climb for that. Snooze fest.

Even with bad weather luck recently - best tour for Years.
Losing Pinot took a lot out of the final days, but that is what happens all the time in cycling.

Because of plain awful stage design. I always said Val Thorens is useless as a climb. You can't attack because the last 800 are far more difficult than the rest. And then Poels wouldve killed everybody anyway.
I agree: Val Thorens is a terrible climb, and with the Vuelta style re-design of ____/, it became even worse, since it basically meant everyone didn't suffer anything prior in the stage.
Terrible, terrible climb, hope to not see it in the Tour in the next couple of years (unless they put it made stage)
I think Val Thorens isn't that bad of a climb but a 60 km junior length Unipuerto stage design is obviously not the way to use this climb.
When it was used in 1994 with this profile it gave proper gaps for those who attacked:

Awful stage all in all, at least a nice win for Nibali and Movistar failed again after awful tactics.

Yes, because they were both on their limit. Calling people pathetic for riding on their limit and "not trying"

Happy for Colombia, big party tonight there. Long time coming.
Maybe Bernal will save us from a 5th Froome tour win. That would be nice.

I don't think Valverde is sad to see Landa and Quintana go. He deserves teamates actually riding for him. |

Quintana always rode for Valverde in the past when needed and vice-versa tbh. Only this Tour with Landa's entry does it seem the team has completelly gone to crap communication wise |

Valv wanted to ride for stage wins and he ended up riding for low Top 10 placing. That is neither Nairito's nor Landa's fault. A win in the WC jersey would have been good.q
In the GC, Valv wouldnt have been much better either way.

Yes, because they were both on their limit. Calling people pathetic for riding on their limit and "not trying" Riders say they are on their limit when they are strolling in a group as well. Maybe I was too harsh with pathetic but I think it was not a smart tactic and very dull as well.

Point.
What a fuck you guys are thinking after 3rd week.
Val Thrones shitty climb? Fuck you again . I am been riding up to it. It's endless like Nibbles also did say. Really cruel climb.
This life you know. Not pcm game.
Great stuff Nibbles. This sort guy always delivers. Legend
p.s. alex change you banner. I read your can not read your post thanks to jumping annoying gif.

I agree, but in this type of finish where they have four guys in the group and decide to use Soler to attack instead of closing the gap. I find that bizzare, but hey that's Movistar for you. |

Oh you talk about today, yeah would have been fair to work for Valv, the man with the best kick. Alas, is what is.

The team is a tactical disaster considering the quality of the riders they got. But with most of the top riders on the move and seemingly in direct conflict with the team management its not easy. They need a total rebuild, and that is also what it looks like.

Hes no Contador. I dont think he has an explosive attack.
Still, rode a great race and a podium is a great result for a guy with his ability. |

Chapeau, Julian! Top-5 is incredible, what a legend. As is Nibali and Valverde (though I assume could he be given a more free role he would have gone for more stage wins, but top-10 still respectful at this age).
Barguil 10th, isn't that one of the highest placings for a PCT since the days of Rolland at Europcar? |
