Because of plain awful stage design. I always said Val Thorens is useless as a climb. You can't attack because the last 800 are far more difficult than the rest. And then Poels wouldve killed everybody anyway.

I agree: Val Thorens is a terrible climb, and with the Vuelta style re-design of ____/, it became even worse, since it basically meant everyone didn't suffer anything prior in the stage.
Terrible, terrible climb, hope to not see it in the Tour in the next couple of years (unless they put it made stage) |
