*NEW INFORMATION, PLEASE READ*
Welcome to the 10th and final season!
Over the last nine years PCM.Daily has crowned its favourite cyclist.
This season we will be naming the site's all-time favourite.
This a tournament voting style game that takes place on this thread.
It's very easy and simple to understand as you help decide
which rider will be PCM.Daily's All-Time Favourite.
There are 3 phases to this voting game. They go in order as followed.
We start with the classic Vote-In round.
Each member lists their 10 Favourite All-Time Cyclists in order.
#1 gets 10 points, #2 gets 9, and so forth, #10 gets 1 point.
The top 40 cyclists make the bracket and will be seeded based on votes.
All ties will be broken by first-place votes and then a random generator picker.
After the top 40 cyclists, the following 32 riders move to the group phase.
The group stage consists of 32 cyclists fighting for the final 16 spots.
They will be split into 8 groups of 4 through a tiered seeding system.
Voting will be conducted by ranking the cyclists in each group against each other.
#1 gets 5 points, #2 gets 3 points, #3 gets a point, and #4 gets nothing.
The top 2 cyclists in each group move on to the knockout phase.
They will be seeded after the other 48 cyclists and will be done by
total number of points received in the Vote-In Round + Group Round.
I hold the power to break any ties in this round since I don't vote initially.
Automatic Qualifiers
The eight previous winners of the PCM.Daily Favourite Cyclist Contest advance straight to the Bracket Round and will be given the all the No. 1 and No. 2 seeds.
List of previous winners can be found below.
Now that the 64 cyclist bracket is filled up, it's business as usual.
The 64 cyclists will go head-to-head until we are left with one ultimate winner.
You only vote once for each match-up, there will be new match-ups everyday.
All ties in this round are broken by myself since I don't vote initially.
Questions? PM me. I'll be happy to clear up any confusion.
| Winner | 2nd | 3rd | Season 1 (2010) | Philippe Gilbert | Andy Schleck | Jens Voigt | Season 2 (2011) | Thomas Voeckler | Geraint Thomas | Cadel Evans | Season 3 (2012) | Jens Voigt | Cadel Evans | Thomas De Gendt | Season 4 (2013) | Vincenzo Nibali | Peter Sagan | Nairo Quintana | Season 5 (2014) | Marcel Kittel | Vincenzo Nibali | Michal Kwiatkowski | Season 6 (2015) | Zdenek Stybar | Thibaut Pinot | Adam Hansen | Season 7 (2016) | Peter Sagan | Esteban Chaves | Edvald Boasson Hagen | Season 8 (2017) | Peter Sagan | Alberto Contador | Bob Jungels | Season 9 (2018) | Andre Greipel | Thomas De Gendt | Romain Bardet |

* Do NOT include previous winner's of the contest in this list, they will be voided.

* All cyclists are fair game. They can be active, retired or deceased.
* Again, ties will be broken by 1st place votes then a random generator.

Thanks for bringing this back!
Will post my top 10 later, but just a question. Is rule #2 new? |

Ohh such a pity it's the last time you do this! It's one of the reasons I keep coming back to this community, even though I'm not as active anymore as I used to be.
I'll post my top 10 later.

Damn, picking just 10 from all time, not easy... I honestly thought i'd have more older cyclists but whilst they are interesting i have way more connection and interest in modern day riders.

The "don't include previous winners" rule because they have automatically advanced to the bracket round? I believe I used to do something like this in the early days of the contest. But, yes, it's new from recent past seasons.
Being the last contest, I wanted to give former winners of year's past an advantage.

It was really hard to restrict all cycling history (at least what I had chance to follow) in just 10 names, but was even hard to fulfill the list when I got my first 7/8 names, without rule n°2 it would be easier because I would get right 10 names over others.
If I can't give 6,5 points each Schleck brother let's give 7 to Andy for his emotional 2007 Zoncolan
I was surprised that some names were missing yet

Sad to see this end, one of my favorite features as well. Thanks for doing it for so long.
1. Gino Bartali
Going recent cyclists for the rest since, as TMM noted, that is where I have the connection and this is a contest for our favorite cyclists not the greatest. But had to go for Bartali as I am not sure any other cyclists used their talent and fame to save lives. Plus this is a really bad ass quote: " . . certain medals hang on the soul, not on the jacket."
2. Mark Cavendish
3. Thomas De Gendt
4. Taylor Phinney.
5. Carlos Sastre
6. Esteban Chaves
7. Luis Angel Mate
8. Joseba Beloki
9. Nairo Quintana
10. Dan Martin |
