The stage was more selective than i thought but im still fairly happy with it. Big gap between 18th and 19th and Van Stayen was on the right side of the split which is a pretty good sign for the GC fight. Smirnovs with a good day too.
Now up to the most important stage for me ...
A Big Thank You To All MG Reporters!

Congrats Tejay! Hard to watch, but I'm happy for him.
I'll be content over in the corner with the KoM jersey.

Kittel unfortunately a second shy, but Jungels at least with one of his better PT rides.
Nice result for Reimer though, with the Americans also going strong.

Ridiculously disappointing. Disappointingly ridiculous.
We were right where we needed to be, with Felline an extra bonus up there to protect Kelderman and chase the attackers.
Suddenly, Kelderman loses two minutes. What a joke.
I hope this means early attacks now and a stage win somewhere this week, otherwise I'm sooo done with this early season. I'm not sure I'll even make it to the Herklotz&Demare part of the season with any sanity left.

TJ doing well to bolster his team chances. Ponzi too.
Huges gaps appearing already. 2min to the top10 and 5min to top20. Still pretty obvious that Claeys is going to win this

Also, since I have both Lammertink brothers in the race, it would have been nice to be mentioned which one of them was in the breakaway. I got excited at first only to realize it was Steven
Yes, sorry about that did not realize there were two at the time of reporting

Surely some DQs coming, riders on the pavement Love to see Afewerki with a big win So close for MVS though That powerful 2-3 is a nice result for Evonik - dropping Sagan surely earns them a beer from the other teams! Cool to see LNH using his skills to take initiative and help Vantomme, shame they couldn't hold it and challenge the top two.
24/02/21 - kandesbunzler said “I don't drink famous people."
15/08/22 - SotD said "Your [jandal's] humour is overrated"
11/06/24 - knockout said "Winning is fine I guess. Truth be told this felt completely unimportant."

Crosswinds always make a mess of sprint stages, and this one was no exception. Though, it's always cool to see the riders putting the hammer down on innocent looking flat stages.
Big win for Afewerki, Vesuvio and SN, congratulations! Perfect timing from him, where MvS left it too late. And seeing Ciolek, Tzortzakis and Vantomme sit down crossing the line, there can't have been much left to challenge the top three with from them
For us, I guess it worked out very well with Ciolek here in terms of Beltran's chances, as I'm far from sure he would have been in that first peloton if it wasn't for working to catch the breakaway to get a sprint for Ciolek. A pity we were never even trying to make a leadout due to the final split and wind, as 4th in such a field isn't what we came for with Ciolek. Hopefully we can improve on the final stage, eventhough fatigue probably will kick in there, both for Ciolek and his designated leadout riders.
A pity for Sagan and Moser, but I guess they also have to experience som bad luck. When thinking about it, I can't really remember last time they faced it. A GC top 5, which he surely was a contender for, looks to be gone, eventhough he can still fight for a top 10 and maybe a stage win.
Thank you for a quality report, Tamijo |

Bakelants secure, that's the important. Not super impressed by our support, with only Van Emden hanging on to the first group besides Bakelants. A drop in both U25 and the teams classification, but Bakelants the main man anyway. Hope for a good show on the next hilly stage.

Good to see Phelan active, maybe he can add some points here after all.

It was all about staying with the best on this stage. And De Bie did great with Gallopin being at his side and thanks to classic rider Van Hooydonck, I got a small gap in the team ranking. Maybe with Zardini in the hill stages as 3rd rider I am able to defend it but I doubt so, once a breakaway winning a stage.
Nice to see Afewerki winning on PT level! A cool rider, who got the chance in PT and used it well. Evonik should have taken the stage though with that leadout. |

Yes, Afewerki! What a way to get his first ever victory.
Great effort by the team all round, with Kittel strong in the break (and the points jersey!), and Reimer with the sprint support. Thought our hopes were over when the breakaway gap vanished, but suddenly there they were.

Probably but i can't feel bad about the way the stage went. 2nd plus 3rd is equal to 1st in direct stage points and (to use cios standard late season argument) this is better for me as it might be benefitial for MVS' renewals demands while Mansilla is only a one year rental anyway.
Loved that my team created echelons once again. A bit of a shame that they didnt push on to the line but i guess the same i have here isnt strong enough for that anyway. Should be a nice help for MVS in GC as lots of guys between 20th and 50th were dropped and some of my guys like De Vreese amde a good step forward in GC. Sadly Smirnovs missed the selection.
Congrats SN!

We keep on scoring a bit of points here and there. The last point for Vlatos in 3rd of the points competition today, and another few by Tzortzakis for 5th. Seeing the way it went I would have liked a stage podium, but I guess we will have to be content also with the fact that van der Hugenhaben survived without time loss, which makes him climb to 19th in the GC... If he can stay there we will be happy with that.

I wish to make a complaint with the race organizers. That sidewalk in the race finale clearly had an impact on sensible riders like Avelino. It's undeniable Óscar would have won if it weren't for that poor route choice. Congrats SN, but it is really sad that the organizers don't care at all for the security of these virtual beings.

Another fine effort by Ariesen. Hopefully he will keep up with these breakaway riders when he will be maxed out as well

Scary with the crosswind, but luckily Ponzi managed to hold on! Barbero also surviving easily. Could turn out to be nice little race this.
