Oh darn it, completely missed my cue here. He hasn't shown much before this year, but was pretty good this cyclocross winter, getting some good early season results. He also got a spot on the WC team, slightly undeserved in my opinion as he was fading a bit. He came back into competition at Tour of Belgium (Telenet-Fidea skips the spring classics because they're a real cyclocrossteam) and immediatly had some good results.
It's hard to say how far he will get, as his team only rides a few road races each year. I would say he needs to find a transfer, but nowadays that pretty much means giving up your cyclocross career.

It was a very good race, but I was a bit annoyed by the Italians. There seemed to be an agreement between Wout, Mathieu and Trentin to wait after the crash (the gap was big enough), but when Cimolai gets back he immediatly speeds up, not waiting for the others to return. If Wout and Mathieu knew they were going to do this, I don't think they would've waited.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Though to be fair. Whatever Nation had gotten the 2nd rider first (Meurisse, Lammertink, Cimolai) had imo gone that tactic.
So if it was Meurisse coming ahead of Cimolai, quite sure Belgium had done this tactic as well.
A bit unfortunate that some totally lost it on that Lammerink crash such as Albasini, Denz and Perichon.
Also Herrada basically lost it then as attacks were unlikely to happen then with decent sprinters against one climber. Could have been different if e.g. Denz, Herrera, Perichon had attacked together. Still a sprinter likely would win anyway though from that group. |

Maybe. I was under the impression that the initial plan was to wait for everyone to come back, but one can only guess what was said of course.
