With three new managers dropping out of the game before transfers, and an overall drop of 5 CT teams from last year, the C1 and C2 races are left a little under-subscribed, and with fewer teams per race than intended.
Amateur teams are therefore going to be introduced, with the target of bringing the average number of teams in C1 and C2 races up to at least 20 each - to provide better AI, while also increasing cross-division interaction, and engagement in race discussion threads.
To avoid conflict of interest, these amateur teams are only available to PT managers. There will be up to 10 teams in total, with prioritisation going to those managers who have been in the PT for the most consecutive seasons, and also those who are able to swiftly handle the logistics in the next few days.
Details of how it will work have been discussed by a focus group of managers over the last couple of days.
- Teams will race 56 Rd, incorporating 34/35 C1 RD and 21/22 C2 RD.
- Races will be chosen by the managers from all available, excluding the TT events as they only have teams of 3 riders, and also excluding the Tour of America, due to it's length.
- Teams will consist of 8 riders. A maximum limit of 4-5 Level 4 riders, with the rest being Level 1 to 3. These will come from those who remain as Free Agents in the PostTransfers DB.
- Riders will earn XP, and thus have the ability to level up. They can compete in NCs later in the season, but not Avenir, as there are too many Avenir-eligible contracted riders already.
- The teams will ride using variant or old team names and jerseys for each manager, to provide distinction but also recognition.
- There is no rider link between the PT and Amateur team, and all riders involved in amateur squads will be free agents at the end of the season.
- There will be a mini Free Agent bidding period over this weekend, for teams to build their squad.
- All other managers in the game will be able to nominate into a pool of Level 1 to Level 3 riders, which teams will have to choose from for at least one of their riders.
- Rankings updates of amateur teams will be provided in the CT rankings threads.
Actions:
PT managers: If interested in having an amateur team, PM me with the details of the team name and jersey it would use.
The intention is to prioritise those who have been in the top division for longest, as many have been in the game for the longest as well, and have had less recent opportunity to experience the race selection decision making aspect of the game.
Calendar selection will be necessary in the next couple of days, with a bidding period on the weekend.
Other managers: Recognising that the amateur teams are likely to focus on a manager's existing region of interest, we want to ensure the opportunity for riders in other areas to also be part of the Amateur squads.
Managers can nominate one Level 1 to 3 rider each, to create a pool of such riders. Teams involved will then be required to choose at least one of these riders, where the rider chosen is from outside their focus region(s).

I like the idea of PT teams having developmental teams in CT racing in C2 races.

If nominations go in here I'll nominate Jesse Kaislavuo.
Having taken a win last year and even being able to level up with these race days he deserves to get to race this season as well.
I like that this is being done to prevent too much bad AI.

Good idea, should hopefully improve racing while also helping develop some riders who couldn't make it on a team this year.
I nominate my former stagaire Simon-Pierre Gauthier.

Would be SO awesome to have one of these amateur teams, but it makes sense that is restricted to PT managers. From an over-arching perspective, anything that helps avoid the tragic PCM AI from a few seasons back due to very small start-lists makes sense to me.
I'll nominate Juan Sebastian Molano (Rider ID 113).
Molano is a former WCC stagaire who we just fell short of having room for this year. He has potential to develop into a very interesting lead-out rider who would also have use in certain cobbled races. For this season, hopefully his versatility, and in particular high ACC stat (for a lvl 1 rider selection) will mean he gets a contract with one of the amateur teams!

It's all fun and games until the amateur breakaway wins your goal race
I'd like to nominate Maksym Vasilyev, a former rider who couldn't find a team since being released by us two years ago.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.
