In the end I am very glad that Thomas wins in that way Pantani will stay unmatched for a couple of more years. While the Giro-Tour double certainly looked well within reach for Froome (and in hindsight, also Dumoulin), the odds to do it won't be so good anytime soon, imo (competition-wise, recuperation time etc)
mmmh, i didn't see Froome so good for the tour, and he is getting older too, there are no more occasions for him imo
I agree that it will only get tougher for Froome going forward, but I would definitely not write him off yet. Two months ago he was still obliterating the field on the Finestre and before this year the Giro-Tour was basically dubbed impossible in modern times.
Seems like the good stuff is returning to the peloton, as two guys were close to pulling it off.

I really don't care to get into yet another repetitive discussion about doping and sky, but everybody was doped up to the grills back then in the EPO era, and nowadays it looks like the people who do dope have a larger competitive advantage as they turn from donkeys to race horses. That's all I say about this.
Besides, I have stated that the Pantani record stays unmatched. I consider the Giro-Tour a sacrosanct achievement and anyone pulling it off is impressive even he hangs on the needle 24/7.

Probably need a thread one of these days on who did it better in recent years: Contador (1-5), Dumoulin (2-2(?)), Froome (1-4(?)).

Dumoulin seemed the only one competitive for a top results in both GT, but he didn't get one

He is not a doper. If you actually think that, then you never had to deal with Asthma yourself. Even the test is not even that good for it. People need to calm down a bit with that. All im up to.
And the "french" refrence. The majority of people booing him is allegedly french? Either way, i strongly belive him not be a doper. So let's not ruin a living legends legacy over that.

I'm not french and would boo him because he's a doper.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Would be interesting to think of the Tour with no 2nd or 3rd place. You win or you lose. I think it could diminish the riding we see from Lotto early on, and from Dumoulin basically pulling for Thomas the last odd 20k. It's quite boring to see people riding for podium like this. |

+1
The funny thing is that everybody keeps saying, "nobody remembers who came in second". Yet they all defend their 2nd and 3rd spots

Exactly, and I think it's fine to give it your best to claim that podium finish, if you're fifth or something like that. I hate when the podium settles for what they have, it really ruins the fun. |
