In a 3-2 defeat to Dereham on April 7, Canvey Island's Marcus Diamond went down early in the first half with a gashed to his left leg after a late tackle attempt. He reached halftime before getting subbed off.
Reports after the game by head physio Ryan Cooper were released to the media.
This is the first major injury in Diamond's career. The multi-sport athlete will probably be forced to miss the Rutland-Melton Cicle Classic in a week with the JLT Condor cycling team. A huge blow given his success on the road recently.
"This is the risk you run," JLT Condor manager John Herety said. "At least it wasn't too serious. We wish him a speedy recovery."
Diamond didn't have much to say on the matter being all bandaged up at training the following day: "I got to be smarter. I'll certainly learn from this mistake."
No more stat updates as Marcus Diamond recovers.

Limited mobility with stitches in my leg, I forced to just bide my time and wait for my injury to heal. The recovery process went as planned and I was back to full health in two and a half weeks.
As much as I wanted to race on the cobbles at Rutland-Melton Cicle Classic, I would have been a fool to do so. It wasn't worth re-injuring myself. If it was like Paris-Roubaix... You know for damn sure I would have got on my bike.
So, it was a raceless month for me. How boring.
Ten race days in store for May and some pretty interesting races. I'll still get to make my home soil debut soon at the four-stage Tour de Yorkshire. A hilly third stage stands out among three flat days. Stage 3 is also the first time I'll have to do double duty. The stage ends in Leeds and I'll have to rush over to Mildenhall in the evening for an away game with Canvey Islands. Should be interesting.
Then, it's off to Poland for three straight days of hills. I'll be forced to miss a football game on this trip, but since we are no longer in the promotion hunt, coach Nicky Forster was OK with it.
And I'll wrap up the month in Hungary with a three-day event that starts with a very short "mountain" time trial followed by two flat stages. I'm going to miss Canvey Islands' final match of the season, but again, it doesn't matter much.
Home Sweet Home (Part 2): Since I didn't make home debut in April, let's try this again. Whatever member gets closest to correctly guessing Marcus Diamond's GC placing in the Tour de Yorkshire will get double points in next's month training ride. Diamond's injury prevented a training ride this time around.

25th.
I guess Marcus lost some progression due to the injury?

He just won't get progression this time. A lost month. If it was a more serious injury, then yes, progression can be lost depending on the severity.
So fingers crossed that Marcus can stay healthy.

No I meant for the last one, pre-injury. Doesn't seem to have all the cobbles, but I may be remembering wrong.
And yeah, let's hope it doesn't worsen or come back

All those points pre-injury were added. Remember, there are different thresholds (that I can't really explain, otherwise you all would cheat the system I have crafted). Yes, it starts off on a one-to-one scale but gets hard to develop the higher that stat is.
In this instance, Marcus hit a threshold in the cobblestone stat. Hope that helps.
I don't want Marcus to be a beastly 21-year-old and my system prevents that, as long as a flock of people don't come rushing to this story. Constant community input is what is going to make Marcus a good cyclist or footballer.

Ok I get it. Forgot about the different thresholds you mentioned, and I definitely agree it's needed. He's already a better cyclist than expected

Looking to close out the season on a high note, I went and got myself injured in Match Day #39 which was a 3-2 defeat to Dereham.
They rest of the month didn't go too well for the team either. Well, except for the one game I missed completely while recovering, they won 6-3 against Tilbury in Match Day #40. Jack Smith and George Sykes each had two goals.
Match Day #41 vs. Bury Town (14-13-13) Just got to get my fitness back in this match.
Spoiler Bury Town 2, Canvey Island 1
Summary: Rainy conditions made for a sloppy game. Despite James Walker getting the equalizer in the 60th minute on our league-leading 12th penalty, Liam MacDevitt took advantage of a mistake made on the back line to find the game winner in the 88th minute.
Rating: 6.7 - I got subbed on in the 66th minute. Did what I was supposed to do and picked out some key passes.
Player of Game: David Fletcher, Bury Town (7.2)
Match Day #42 at Brentwood (18-16-8) Middle table bout against a hot team with 9 points in its last 4 games.
Spoiler Brentwood 2, Canvey Island 0
Summary: Disappointed, to say the lead. We outshot them 16-7, but only put three shots on target. This is a game when you would want a do-over button.
Rating: 6.5 - Only 17 minutes of action, so hard to judge a poor rating off of that. But, I'm slowly getting my legs in shape again.
Player of Game: Lewis Eaton-Collins, Brentwood (7.7)
League Standings (42/46 Games Played)
At this point, finishing in the Top 10 looks secured. A failure by our standards though when everyone predicted us to win the league.
The final stretch. Because of my cycling schedule, I'll miss the games against Romford and the finale against Aveley. It's just life of being a two-sport athlete.
Contract Talks: With no training ground since Marcus Diamond was injured, Marcus had plenty of time to think about his next move. His contract with Canvey Island FC runs out in two months.
Due to his play this season, a renewed contract with Canvey Island isn't guaranteed. Should Marcus start looking around for a new team now or waiting for the season to finish?

Being upfront worked with JLT, let's try it again. Ask Canvey about renewing, to make it clear.

This is an interesting idea!
Tour de Yorkshire: 18th
Canvey Island FC: Not ready for a higher level and no need to step sideways. Engage in talks. |

Would be nice to stay with current squad, so I would ask about the future plans.
