The worst thing is that maybe for Nibali and Porte as well, this Tour was the last which they could theoretically win. Both will be 34 by the time the next Tour will begin and you know....Cadel Evans was last who won at this age of 34.
What are your thoughts on Tom Dumoulin? He is riding really strongly for now. I am afraid of his recovery in 3rd week. If he somehow manage to not lose more time to Froome, do you think that in that TT on stage 20 he will have "no problem" to beat Froome?
I also think that Froome has an inner problem. And its Geraint Thomas. If G will not have a bad day in 3rd week, what will Froome do? Will he attack yellow jersey? In public, Froome is pretending that its absolutely fine and great but I think that deeply in his soul he knows that this might no be too convenient situation to be in. Moreover if you know that you could do Giro-Tour double but there is your own team mate standing in your way...

Great ride by Thomas and Froome despite them being punched and spat at the whole way up. It's a shame all the rivals, with the exception of Dumoulin, are simply not good enough to challenge. What has happened to Quintana?
Will be interesting to see the dynamics of Sky over the next couple of weeks. I still think Froome is leader at the moment, but another couple of stages like that from Thomas could change all that. Still have doubts about him lasting the whole 3 weeks with the yellow jersey.

Quintana indeed is a weird one. Seems like he had his 2 years of prime and not longer at this level.
The whole Movistar squad is not in form actually.
You`d think Quintana, Landa, Valverde, Amador, Soler would be able to challenge Sky a bit more. But while their riders maximum chase for a short time, Sky riders do it for several kilometers.
Poels/Kwiatkowski >>> Soler/Amador/Valverde
And then there still is Bernal, who seems to be better than Quintana (at least yesterday) and who surely is about to attack Latour/Martin for the Youth jersey as well.
And then Thomas/Froome > Landa, who is the best in form but also not his very best I think. Still could become interesting if he finds a huge 3rd week form, where normally Dumoulin/Froome should feel more tired and Thomas could have his GT weak day then. |

Landa has been complaining of back pain since his crash in the Roubaix day. It's clearly affecting his riding style, as he's riding more in the saddle than usually. Still managed to limit losses yesterday arriving with the first group, and if he's fully recovered for Pyrenees, and now that he's basically Movistar's leader, he should make an interesting final week

Havent noticed anything like that, only booos all the time, but if that is true, great, hopefully that will continue as it should, to inform these cheaters they are not welcomed in cycling.

Whatever you think about the Sky team or their riders, this shouldn`t happen in sport neither though.
So yes, I don`t really like the Sky team at all and find them highly suspicious but I am fully against spatting, punching etc.
Booeing imo is okay as it`s not impacting their ride.
It`s like in other sport, football for example. You can boo the opponents but you can`T run onto the pitch and punch players. |

I guess. But that's not how it was intended. The majority of people on here are like you. They don't like Sky, which i understand, but you don't condone the violence. This is the majority view which is perfectly acceptable. The problem I have is the minority who openly support violence towards professional athletes whilst competing. At the same time they bemoan Nibali getting knocked off by fans.

it's just the Trump way of influencing individual actions that hurts my eyes that much

As long as it`s like the following quote of the article
Sky’s riders were accompanied by booing and jeering all the way up the Alpe d'Huez climb, with Thomas booed as he crossed the finish line and again as he was awarded the yellow jersey at the podium presentation.
I think it`s something that can`t be avoided and neither has to be punished in my opinion. Sky must live with this and there are reasons why it happens to Sky more than with others, which are partly self-inflicted by Sky.
But I doubt the punches were all way up and neither the spatting even though later I can imagine at least more than punching as the distance is different and it`s easier to make it hidden. |
