Nice one, I loved climbing Mont Ventoux.
Getting into shape as well for summer now, but only managing rides on the weekend. After the last year of very little sport, I am happy to be back on my 'old' good bike instead of the crappy race bike I used to have in Vienna. It killed all the fun.

It was the Scott from 1980ies from my dad. Too small, too far down, and too heavy. Just no fun at all when you have backpain. I mostly ran during the years in Vienna and just did cycling when I was home in Tyrol. That worked out well for some time but lately I havn't had any motivation to go running at all, for about 5-6 months now.

Yes, so I am glad that I have my normal bike with me again in Frankfurt, and currently getting into shape by doing some hills around here. I already did a few mountains back in Tyrol but boy they taught me that my form of previous years is long gone Perhaps I should download strava again hm

Maybe not 100% correct thread.
Anyone good at Garmin device here?
My Garmin Edge 510 starting to give trouble.
It connects with my phone (Huawei Honor 8) but when I open garmin connect on my phone to sync my training trip over to my phone it says in the garmin connect app : you need to do a software update go to garmin.com/express.
But garmin express on the computer can´t cooparete with the Edge 510 for some reason it just says that a device is connected but can see which and cant update it.
But with garmin webupdater it worked to update to software on the Edge 510 but I still cant sync between my Edge 510 and my phone (garmin connect app) Not even when trying to manually sync it.
Anyway have experienced this and have a solution? Thanks |

Many good riders here so could ask little bit opinion from experience. Let say that there are 2 laps, each 50 km long, one is almost completely flat (like few meters here or there overall), second one is in little bit more hilly (nothing big but short type ups and downs with total climb (and same amount of downhill) ~350-400 m.
So my question would be - same rider with same bike, weather conditions (wind) and fitness level would have same average speed for both laps or these hills would have some impact even with all downhills available?
If you have no wind, the flat road is obviously faster, but thats still down to your riding style. Some people struggle to stay in the same position for a long time, while others like it that way. Also the weight is a thing to consider. Both riders could put out a average of 250W, but if they're both 80kg, that will improve the flat time, but if they're both, let's say 50kg, that would benefit the hillier time.
Thank you very much. |

With the Garmin, only thing I can think of is disconnect everything/log out and start afresh with a new BT connection. Sometimes that sorts Garmin like glitches but there is a good chance you've already tried that. Otherwise hopefully the power of Google will rescue you with someone else likely to have suffered this before.

Where do you guys get all your cycling clothing and accessories from? I've bought from wiggle a few times, but then saw something cheaper at the LBS. Downside is LBS doesn't stock a lot. I'd like to find cheaper cycling jerseys if possible. |

Have you manually connected your Garmin to your WiFi? That worked for me back when my 1000 gave me some troubles.
The recent issues is that their new Map Update is super large and my device don't have the capacity to download it. Super annoying.

We have Santini jerseys like team, so I have some good discount from sponsors, but I'm used also to buy on deporvilllage.com in particular Sportfull stuff, they are very swift in shipment and sometimes you can find good prices

I buy from Wiggle in the main but I check prices across Chain Reaction, Hargroves and Tredz here in the UK.

Very much like LaPassione, nice styles. Appears that Wiggle and Chain Reaction are cheapest in terms of Australian Dollar. Was hoping to find some cheap Rapha gear |

Back on the bike here after a small break after my last goal back in October. Starting to pencil in some climbs I want to tackle in Victoria, Australia.
I'm still very green to road cycling, but am interested in a GPS to help me pace myself. Already got Strava and enjoy the stats (and banter )
The 520 Edge + looks to suit me best. Don't need the full on touchscreen, just wanted something with most of the stats and navigation.
Can anyone recommend some medium GPS units that might compare with the 520? |

I've been quite happy with my Edge 520 for some time (other than a hairline crack caused by my clumsy/fatigued dropping it once on concrete). Think the plus is just that with mapping, though I have effective, open source maps on my 520 by following some straight forward instructions on DC Rainmaker. That's another option as the bog standard 520 has come down in price since the plus was launched.
I much prefer the buttons to any touch screen set up when riding in all weathers and with gloves on etc.
No-one seems to have a bad word to say about the Element range either but not sure how the maps work on the Bolt? Customising the display is certainly less clunky as you just use a phone app rather than repetitive button mashing.

I never tried other brands beside Garmin, and 520 is a very good one, some mates of me use Bryton, but I don't know models, they are also satisfied and it should be cheaper
