France vs Argentina was a cracking game to watch! First half was a bit slow although Mbappe was running rings. Di Maria really gave the game the spark it needed. Second half was much better to watch. For France, great to see that they're able to step it up when needed and can come back to win a game.
Uruguay vs Portugal certainly lacked the quality of the earlier game but was still played at a fairly good pace. Would have to think Uruguay will have to step it up again in the QF.

What Portugal lacked today was a coach. A tactial coach that reads games and doesn't stand there waiting for lady luck to arrive. We have great players emerging and are currently living our second golden generation, but these players need someone to guide them, prepare them for the match, not just passing the ball innocuosly and relying on some Divine God netting for them. That said, Uruguay have a solid team and they can go far. Today, they played tactically. They played Portugal's lack of intelligence to be dangerous. And they did well.
Now, England, Croatia and Belgium. Do your thing. |

That's a bit harsh on Santos.
You have to give him credit of building a team that gave Ronaldo the star role. Individual performances were on the other hand very poor. Guedes was awful throughout all tournament. Andre Silva was nowhere to be seen. Midfield was only competent at times. Both João Mário and Bernardo Silva lacked the confidence to have and impact. Defensively if you take out Patricio and Pepe there's not much to praise either. Substitutions were always ineffective, I agree with you there.
It didn't help that Cavani was so lethal too yesterday, but so is football. But the strategy is the same as in the last Euro: give the ball to Ronaldo.

From neutral spectators view very boring game IMO.
But always nice then the home country goes well, not so much when its Russia |

I am actually happy Spain goes home. Their football is passing-passing-passing-losing the ball-recovering the ball-passing-passing and so on. If you look on the stats, Spain had 1114 passes in comparison with 290 for Russia. This is bullshit from my point of view, to be able to have the ball more that 75% of the time but not able to score goals.
However, I will cheer up for France, Belgium, Croatia now, teams that actually play the game. |

Yawn, yawn, yawn... England could very well have a great chance to reach the finals now, if they don't screw up in the meantime. |

We'll screw up in the meantime. Probably on penalties.

Why is it always those words when it comes to England, "they screw Up".
Why not the truth, they are not good enough? |

That's Julen Lopetegui in a nutshell. His "U" style of play is not only boring but also rendered to complete oblivion against deep-sitting defenses.
However it has to be said that had Piqué not given away that stupid penalty, they would see themselves through easily.

2002 - Spain loses to South Korea on penalties
2018 - Spain loses to Russia on penalties
Both times Spain was the symbolic host to the actual host.
Coincidence? I don't think so. Illuminati confirmed lol

Even when they are not good enough, the screwing up bit comes to play. It's like Yin-Yang. |

Don't forget, between 2002 and 2012 our team included neville, Terry, ferdinando, Cole, Beckham, lampard, Gerrard, Scholes, Owen and Rooney. That team should have been capable of at least one semi final but they achieved nothing because they kept messing up. Its 50/50. Sometimes we are not good enough, like the last couple of tournaments. But even when we have a good team or favourable run of fixtures we mess up.

Very glad to see Croatia win that on the back of some heroics from Subasic! Croatia tried to play football but struggled against a Danish side who really just sat back and pumped the ball up the pitch for their striker to nod down to Eriksen. Don't really know how Jurgensen didn't see Red for that challenge near the end but luckily didn't matter in the end. All in all, not the most exciting game to watch but a great shoot out.
Russia vs Croatia QF could be a tough game to watch and likely quite similar to the game just played with Russia sitting back and using their height up top. Awful to watch but seems to work. I do back Croatia to pick them apart though.

Schmeichel had an outstanding match today, though. But Croatia deserve to go through, at least their football is more entertaining than Denmark's. Modric <3 |

Putin has his doped boys ready and Croatia will be swept aside in old fashion.
Is everything then setup for a deadly game :
England vs Russia.
Will Russia mess with England once more?
It will perhaps be double poison attack for England.

Well. Today, they didn't entertain at all terrible match to follow, but I get your point: I would rather want to see Croatia against Russia than Denmark. Didn't really deserve it today (neither did Denmark, simply a really bad match), but the potential to perform good football is definitely bigger than what Denmark has to offer. Hoping for Croatia to try some more actual football against Russia now. But the home team can certainly beat this Croatian team.
