The Penalty Sweden got was so clear IMO that the ref should been able to decide that without help from VAR.
Does not the ref dare to give penalties cause they may give a wrong one since they will get help from VAR if they dont give a penalty...? |

This is where var is fantastic clear penalty, but ref didn't see it or just got it wrong so gets help ,anything makes refs job easier is a good thing .

That was worryingly close to both 2010 and 2014... well at least it's 3 points and should carry some confidence against Panama. But this team will struggle in the R16 unless we get a real weak match-up. Got to make some changes for the start against Panama, drop Sterling for Rashford please!

I heard somewhere that if he decide it's a penalty the VAR can't change that. That makes sense that they are more un-decided and wait for the signal from the VAR room.
However it sounds strange because I hoped that every decision should be under VAR if they think it's a mistake by the ref on the field.
However so far the VAR has been correct and correct penalties have been given. Lets hope in the future even the diving to get that penalty should be under review and result in harsh penalties.
Everything as far as the ref on the field have the final decision and uses the VAR as a guide. It will perhaps be given more penalties but at least they will be much more correct given than in the past.
At least Mr. Kane didn't need a VAR just some extra time. Lucky they didn't join some of the favs in failing in their first matches.

I thought England were excellent. Honestly.
Came out of the blocks all guns blazing, scored, then Tunisia got a nothing penalty from what was literally their only venture into the England box: other England teams would have panicked, but today they bided their time, kept their heads and reeled Tunisia in right at the last.
Glad Sweden won as well: solid performance. If they put Forsberg and Kiese Thelin high and wide on the Germany full backs on Saturday, and look for the long diagonal over the top every time, I think they could knock them out.
Disclaimer- Most of my posts are me thinking aloud. And most of what I think is rubbish.

England game was a bit of a mixed bag.
We were clearly the better team against a side that had no intention of trying to win. Should have been 3 or 4 goals up before a joke of a penalty decision (even though Walker was a bit of a clown for turning his back on the ball). Should have had a few penalties ourselves. What are the VARs doing if they didn't review any of the wrestling moves Kane had to suffer during the match?
Ultimately I agree with other's. It was a struggle but in the last few years the game would have slipped away into a draw. We kept going and got the win we deserved. At the end of the day we have done better than Spain, Portugal, Brazil, Argentina and Germany in our first. I would say we are also in a better position than Belgium at this time as we should beat Panama easily while nothing is guaranteed for Belgium against Tunisia.
We need to improve to go far but we've set ourselves up nicely to qualify with a game to spare.

Not saying Niang's goal should be disallowed, but someone ought to have looked at its legality. |

Portugal still the blessed team of the tournament, absolutely dire and shit match. Convinced we’ll take the cup home again. |

How do you think so? You were lucky against Spain. A penalty, a freekick and a keeper error.

I was joking also because we’re playing the same way we did in 2016 and everyone knows how that ended |

Ah, I get what your saying now. I can only agree. And you will get better since Ronaldo is a tournament team.

Russia & Uruguay advancing!
Morocco, Saudi Arabia, Egypt are out
Are we all in agreement that none of this is surprising news?

Actually I'm quite surprised about Russia. Everything pointed to an anticlimactic performance by the home team, but they are smashing through everyone. It'll become more interesting for them now.

They will lose against Uruguay and then go out to Spain in second round. They beat an awful Saudi Arabia team and then one man Egypt without their one man. (yes, I know Salah played but he was 75% fit at best).
