That`s some massive weather difference between 5km to go and the finish. |

Tricky bit with 400m to go, in a flood, hmm.

...and breath. All's well that ends well!
Perfect last km leadout for Viviani, Bennett did well to get second after starting way back. No-one else anywhere near as fast as those two again.

Today the mountain stage that most suits Dumoulin ___/ stage with a 40 minute TT like effort at the end, though plenty of (legal) drafting will be going on given the fairly linear 7% ascent.

Agree, looks a lot like the one he won last year. Think it's him or the break.

15/08/22 - SotD said "Your [jandal's] humour is overrated"
11/06/24 - knockout said "Winning is fine I guess. Truth be told this felt completely unimportant."

Surely Yates would just sit on him and outsprint him at the end based on how the stages have gone so far |

I think Yates has to be the very strong favourite but if Dumoulin is going to match or better him then this is the most likely stage for it to happen. Then again it's the Giro so expect the unexpected!

...and finally it's potentially a day for the break with the gap over 9 minutes, think that makes it by far the biggest gap of this Giro? Schachmann the most notable up the road, after bridging over late with the help of Morkov, but he's 40 minutes down so no threat to anyone.

Flat start so a bit of a lottery as to who made the break. Many are clearly going to do nothing on the final climb. Perhaps people have started to lose faith in a break making it too and thought it would be controlled on the flat by someone so saving it for more up and down Friday and Saturday...oh the irony, nearly 13 minutes now.

I think Cattaneo can climb a bit and had a decent TT so must be feeling good. That said Schachmann also went well in the TT and must be favourite from the break. Or Van Emden to TT his 75kg up?!

I cannot fathom how I forgot about Cattaneo, he's been so discrete this season that my brain just chose to ignore his name on the break. |
