MAL looks like a Dutch rider with his bike handling and time bleeding in stages you should not bleed time in

Indeed. Interesting rider. Lefevre old fox knows stuff.

Can't agree.

Schachmann indeed is a huge talent. Already looked like an elite rider back in his u23 days when everyone next to him looked like a child.

But saying, finally a real Geran talent, is not right.

Buchmann is doing amazing and very consistent progression over the last two years and imo a step ahead of Schachmann.

Ackerman, Bauhaus, Walscheidt, Pollitt have all shown their class as well in big races and probably couple more I now forget.

Then some like Herklotz or Kämna who struggle to move from juniors to elite but then are still very young.

Pozzovivo is actually going to win this giro. Shock

Don't forget, there is another very loooong ITT where the italian will struggle.

However, he is in a very good form and I like his attitude of riding with balls.

Looking forward seeing him today. Also, a rider to watch is Pinot.

Yeah, beating Dumoulin won't be easy, but he looks like he's in awesome form and actually matched Tony Martin in the Prologue.

I really don't think Froome has it this year (been saying that since he decided he was racing the Giro), if I had to pick a podium after the first five stages I'd say: Pozzovivo vs. Dumoulin for 1st and Pinot 3rd (Yates looks like he's going really well as well).

Entirely agreeing on the whole Schachmann discussion here. Massive form atm, today's gonna be exciting.

But excuse me, but where has Kämna struggled, especially compared to Herklotz?
If anything, riders like Gaudu and Bernal make it appear like Top 3s in WT races at age 20 has become the standard now.

But we're still talking about a 21 year old world TTT champion who outclimbed Sammy Sanchez in Limburg, out-TTed Jungels in the third week of a GT, out-TTed Froome in Romandie, was 5th in TdFjords, would've been 6th in ZLM Tour if not for domestique duty, sprinted to 8th out of a select 33-rider group on the very tough 6th Catalunya stage (that saw Froome etc. drop 26 minutes) and was with Latour, Vuillermoz and Meintjes in the Montjuic stage right after.
All in his first pro year.

Granted, 2018 hasn't had a significant result yet, but he didn't race for a result outside of TTs so far and has been sick in April. AToC is coming up, possibly building up for a TdF participation.

Schachmann has always been pretty equally matched to Kämna in the U23 ranks when they raced together, and he's now breaking through. Kämna is going to be Schachmann's current age in early 2021.

(I know we're likely on the same page and I got worked up, but it just had to be said Pfft )

Yeah Yates looks really good.

It's hard to tell anything in my opinion until we had the first couple of mountain stages. Dumoulin, while a GT winner, is not a certainty in mountain stages.
That's so say, he'll be up there, but not necessarily constantly with the top 3/4/5. That really depends on the day

Froome, he might still be hurting from the crash, who's to say he doesn't suddenly turn up in week 2 and turn on the afterburners.

Pozzovivo had some great early form in the Giro last year as well but then faltered somewhere in the middle some mountain stages.

You can tell who's in form right now though, but it doesn't say much in 2 weeks

Though Yates looks good, I’m feeling for a Mitchelton-Scott underdog win today. Chaves maybe. They got plenty of cards to play, will be interesting to see their tactics.

Agree with you here.

Having Herklotz and Kämna in the same sentence, might have been misunderstandable.

Wasn`t supposed to compare those 2.

Just listed those two for very young German talents, that didn`t really suit the other number of riders, that already got their first stage wins etc. or have incredible neo pro seasons.

Kämna is doing well but rarely being in the top5-10 as e.g. Schachmann, Buchmann this season or Politt from time to time.

Ackerman and Bauhaus are a bit different due to being sprinters.

In other news, Rudi Selig is another abandon in the Giro due to illness.

Quite unfortunate for Sam Bennett, who is missing his main man for the sprint tomorrow. Won`t become easier for him to beat Viviani.
