It’s begun. The hosts’ forced jollility serves as a beacon to all.

You can say what you like about Eurovision, but you can’t say it hasn’t at least tried to keep up with the times. There was a Justin Timberlake type (Czech Republic), Rag n’ Bone Men And Women (Austria, Bulgaria), Lady Gaga/Sia (Finland), Ed Sheeran (Ireland), then a few songs that didn’t fit into any category (Israel, Albania, Cyprus). I hope Albania do well in the final, but I don’t think they will.

Oh make no mistake, I appreciate diversity in eurovision, which is one of the reasons its so popular. But when music doesn't sound great, "I'm not all aboard"
Albania were good tho

wrong imo, better than most of the finals in ESC history
just two things I disagree with: Would've liked Iceland in the final. How the fuck did Austria get into the final instead?
Can't understand the hype on Israel and Czech Republic, both were trash imo but obvious for the final. My favourites so far are Lithuania and Bulgaria. Finland looks like a dark horse here.
A lot of decent songs out in the semis like Armenia, Iceland, Greece, but that's what you get with a quality contest and some surprises.

For me the biggest surprise was Austria. Wouldn't even have guessed them in the final. Otherwise (sadly) the expected outcome. A feel good story for Germany.
Ukraine and Italy got snubbed by the jury, as was Hungary. Can they please stop having their votes done before the final?

I was completely in love with Elina's performance for Estonia... Not my kind of music but I got captivated. Happy for Israel because it was maybe my favourite song along with Sweden and Cyprus.
Ans I don't understand the poor result for Spain... Always loved the song, and also I was in love with their performance... I don't know...

Lots of good songs on the final, but after last year it seems like the general appetite shifted to less wholesome music, which imo gave way to Israel and Cyprus taking centre stage. Germany was more deserving from my perspective. Really liked Sweden as well. Anyway congrats, Israel!
Portugal is back where it belongs, though

I thought Sweden was the worst song in the final. We had an ESC party with sth around 20 people here and Sweden was the only country that got a total of 0 points.

Thought Israel's song was straight up awful, but turned it off really quickly as the show was really boring and the juries gave big points to some other terrible songs, so didn't see much point

I'd try and do something different - what if Eurovision used Formula One scoring esystem (i.e. 25 for 1st, 18 for 2nd, 15 for 3rd and so one) - watch this space

I liked Israel, personally. I think it was a bit nutso, but equally it was catchy, modern and, crucially, performed really well. It is as divisive as Portugal last year, but in the opposite direction.
I’m surprised Austria did so well - I liked their song, but thought it didn’t quite have enough to go so close. Being fifth in the running order meant they had no hope with the televote, unfortunately.
Surprised Sweden did so badly with the televote and so well with the juries, but I didn’t like the song at all. The televote was unfair on Germany too, and France and Finland didn’t do nearly as well as they deserved to, in my opinion.

As allways, the Eurovision is nice way to make some moooneeey.
Had Israel to win, and Denmark top 10. Glad it went that way
