Hehe, that was so bad even other people remember it after like half a year?
I was just looking at my screen for minutes, trying to figure out what the hell happened. But thanks for the kind words. Trying to cut the salaries while riders liek Gaviria keep on progressing will be the main idea

Well I reported it so I did the same Yeah you have some very nice talents and if you can balance finances and holding onto them you'll come very good in the coming years

We made it!
Well, it was a very close call in the end, but we made it! Despite all predictions seeing us finish in a relegation, we managed to finish 25th, leaving Vontobel behind us with a 129 point gap. While we missed some of our goals, our only real aim was to stay in the PCT division, so we cna call it a succesfull year.
Individualy, our best scoring rider was Tom Van Asbroeck, finishing 20th overall in the division with 647 points. Even though he prefers tougher courses then the average PCT classic, he showed himself in the sprints. A stage win in Dunkerque and the point jersey in De Panne are his biggest results.
Our second best rider was Kenneth Vanbilsen with 505 points. Even though we have to admit we lost the cobbles to Strava and Azteca, we're happy with his results, including a very big win in our home race Gent - Wevelgem. No doubt our biggest result this year.
Our third best rider was Zico Waeytens, with a point total of 215. We may have underestimated the tough competition in the PCT hills, because we missed a big result from him, as well as consistency. Still, we want to give him another chance next year.
Other riders scoring well are Stijn Joseph, great work on the cobbles despite not having the leadership anymore. Next is Josef Cerny, who becomes a better puncheur each year. Matteo Pelucchi gave us a stage win in Austria and a few other nice results as well. Nikita Umerbekov gave us an important win in Portugal. Louis Verhelst showed good stuff on the cobbles as well. Fianly let's not forget about Daniele Dall'Oste, who won the Giro d'Italia Climber jersey, despite being robbed of UCI points for that one.
For the next year, our aim is to cut the wages, while keeping the team mostly together. The free budget space will be used to pick up some new talents and if we're lucky an additional team leader.

Transfer overview
Our second year in the pro continental tour. We hoped for 1 leader and 2 talents, but we couldn't make that happen. Our main target Tim Wellens was way above our budget, so we decided to settle for 3 talents. Sam Oomen is the biggest name, future stage race star. Laurens De Plus will also shine on the climb in a few seasons. Finaly Jenthe Biermans will be a great help on the flat, where we tend to shine.
That also means we had to let some guys go. Diego Rosa was a great help in our first year in the Continental Tour, but he never quite adapted to the Pro Continental Tour. At Campari he'll get another chance to shine. Thanks for the good memories Diego! Konrad Dabkowski was sold to use when we needed a leadout, but he never really achieved anything. He's your problem now, Kulczyk! Finaly Maksym Vasilyev was a very good domestique for us on the flat and on the cobbles, but after making the cut the last seasons, we had to let him go in order to improve. We're a bit disappointed no team picked him up, because he's a good guy.
Our average age remains 25. We have 10 Belgians for our main sponsor, 6 Italians for our secondary sponsor and 4 talents from around the globe. That's all really good, our sponsors are happy and approved! So this is our 2017 roster:
Name | Age | Role | Jenthe Biermans | 22 | Baroudeur | Niccolo Bonifazio | 24 | Sprinter | Josef Cerny | 24 | Puncheur | Daniele Dall'Oste | 26 | Climber | Laurens De Plus | 22 | Climber | Fernando Gaviria | 23 | Sprinter | Stijn Joseph | 30 | Cobbler | Jakub Mareczko | 23 | Sprinter | Gianni Moscon | 23 | Puncheur | Sam Oomen | 22 | Stage Racer | Kevin Peeters | 30 | Sprinter | Matteo Pelucchi | 28 | Sprinter | Manuel Senni | 25 | Stage Racer | Jasper Stuyven | 25 | Puncheur | Nikita Umerbekov | 26 | Puncheur | Wout Van Aert | 23 | Cyclocross | Tom Van Asbroeck | 27 | Sprinter | Kenneth Vanbilsen | 27 | Cobbler | Louis Verhelst | 27 | Cobbler | Zico Waeytens | 26 | Puncheur |

It's a shame Wellens was so popular, would've been perfect for your team (admittedly he was #2 on my priorities list ).
Nice as well that you got some really good talents in Oomen, De Plus and Biermans after our epic bidding war for Pedersen - I couldn't believe you would go that high, but then again I couldn't believe that I would either.

Yes, I could've gone a bit higher for Pedersen, but that would've cost me De Plus, so I settled for Oomen. Pedersen sure looks like a future cobble champion, best of luck with him!

Apparently, we do stage races now!
Well this is a total suprise for us. Most of the time, we don't like stage races and see them as preparation for the classic races. In Eritrea however, we achieved unseen results. In stage 2, we saw Matteo Pelucchi taking an impressive win!
A few lenghts for sure!
Daniele Dall'Oste was a completely unknown rider until he took the Giro d'Italia mountain jersey last year. He wanted to repeat this in Eritrea so he attacked on stage 4, taking a lot of points. But he also stayed ahead of the peloton, getting a great stage win!
Two stage wins in one race, a new record for LPU!
But we weren't done scoring points, the next day Sam Oomen joined the break to finish 2nd, while Pelucchi finished 9th from the peloton sprint. We were incredibly happy, but there was more to come!
On to stage 6, where we hoped Dall'Oste could defend his mountain jersey, while also not dropping too much in the GC after his breakaway game him a 13th provisional place. The first part was the most realistic, and although Girdlestone gave us a run for our money ealy on, we looked safe halfway the race. On to the finish then, let's skip the first 30-40 riders, after which we'll se.. HANG ON, A WILD DALL'OSTE APPEARED!
Not the usual jersey, but it's him alright!
What a finish to his race. Staying with the big guys resulting in a 6th place in the queen stage, we've never seen anything like that. Not only does he keep his mountain jersey, he also moves up to 9th in the GC and snatches away the points jersey. Without any doubt, the best stage race this team has had in its 4 year existence.

As annoying Dall'Oste was for me in last years Giro winning the KoM ahead of Olivier.
As much did I enjoy his performance here. Was like wtf on the final stage but good to see I was able to contribute to your best stage race result of all time with my reports. |

Still in the top 10!
It's halfway through the season now and Lierse SK - Pizza Ullo Pro Cycling Team is still doing great in the rankings. This mostly happened because of the great classics results by Kenneth Vanbilsen and Tom Van Asbroeck, but also because of our all time high number of stage wins. Here are the latest:
Tom Van Asbroeck wouldn't win the GC in Gabon, but he sure put some pressure on Kump after winning the queen stage after a very powerful sprint.
One of our top talents, Laurens De Plus, joined the breakaway in the Olypia's Tour. He attacked from that breakaway with 15 kms to go and held on until the finish line. What a win for him in his debut season!
Another one of our youngsters, Jakub Mareczko, took a surprise stage win in Denmark. With Tom Van Asbroeck not feeling too well, Jakub joined the break and showed his speed with a perfectly timed sprint.

Our first stage race win
It only took us 4 seasons, but we managed to win our first stage race. A good prologue on the cobbles and a few good sprints in tough conditions resulted in a GC win for Tom Van Asbroeck in the Baltic Chain Tour. He's been close a few times in similar races, but this was one of those races where everything seemed to work out and he made it. While just missing out on a stage win two times, he did manage to secure the points jersey as well. And the way he's holding hands with that podium girl, makes us think he scored big time in this race.

Your roster was obviously not designed for stage race wins, but never the less great to get one

Thanks, nothing mountainous obviously, but races like De Panne, Gabon, Dunkerque and this Baltic Chain Tour were possible with Van Asbroeck. He deserves to be our first stage race winner as well after a strong season.

Survival!
It wasn't as close as last year, but we were worried for a big part of the season. Despite most predictions ranking us last, we got off to a good start, had a good midseason to postpone the big drop and finished decently enough to hold on to a 17th place overall.
We had our share of crashes and bad luck, but nothing out of the ordinary. A top 15 would have been possible, but we're happy with the way things played out. For the first time in our team history, we managed to make our team ranking goal!
We also had a franchise high 5 stage wins (by 5 different guys!) and 2 points jerseys. More importantly, we had our first stage race win this year. We did not manage to win a classic though, which is disappointing after the great wins we had in the past.
Individualy Tom Van Asbroeck was again our best rider, with 699 points (14th overall). Other riders scoring at least 100 points were Kenneth Vanbilsen (401), Daniele Dall'Oste (145) and Matteo Pelucchi (100).
But most importantly, we can train 14 riders this year. That's right, 14! Most prominent is of course Fernando Gaviria coming one step closer to reaching his full potential, but also 6 riders we had from the start maxing out.
Finaly, we look back to the top 3 moments of the season:
3) Laurens De Plus winning a stage in his debut year:
2) Daniele Dall'Oste crazy Eritrea race
1) Tom Van Asbroeck winning us our first stage race

Dall'Oste and TVA provided memorable moments for you, legendary race and season respectively. Van Aesbroeck keeping you well out of trouble with a huge season, congrats on surviving with still major talent work ongoing as Atlantius says!

Thanks both, obviously a great season for us. Still don' tknow how Dall'Oste pulled that off, Van Asbroeck is just an excellent rider who was bound to win a stage race at some point.
Gaviria will already be 79 SPR 82 ACC next year (with also 71 hill), so I guess he can lead the team. The other guys maxing out should help a bit as well, Waeytens will get more support in the hills from Cerny, Umerbekov and Stuyven. Senni going to 77 mountain should pick up some more points than before. And Dall'Oste to 76Mo/76Hill should make an impact as well, I just hope he keeps up his agressive racing.

Congrats on avoiding the relegation melee, that tbh pre-season I expected you to spend much more of the season mired in. The talent development continues apace. Of course WCC are delighted that you continue to invest in Colombian talent like Gaviria given that he is surely going to want to ride for his home nation team at some point in his career .
