New Main Sponsorship | Desigual
La vida es chula... Life is beautiful.
Hello, thank you for joining us for this huge announcement today.
After a season as a secondary sponsor, Desigual has stepped up to be our primary sponsor in the Pro Tour next season. Desigual is one of the most creative and diverse clothing brands in Spain and has been spreading rapidly worldwide.
We are grateful they want to expand their sporting presence by being our main sponsor next season and we can show off this colorful design in the peloton.
Secondary sponsors will include Chupa Chups lollipops and Acciona, which is a Spanish conglomerate group dedicated to the development and management of infrastructure and renewable energy.
This partnership means I will be moving our Headquarters back to Spain where it was for the CSC-Orbea and Movistar-US Postal years. While it's difficult to leave the United States, the Spanish culture will bring back fond memories.
Again, we would like to thank Taylor Newton for allowing us to support the Newton Foundation last season, which helped raise funds and awareness for the National Stroke Association. It was a huge success and amazing to be a part of.
I'm not going to lie. Heading back to Spain and signing this sponsorship didn't go over well with all our cyclists. Understandable our Spanish riders are happy to go home, but others have expressed interest in leaving the program.
So, to get out in front of media rumors, yes I have received transfer requests from two big named cyclists so far and I fear more are coming.
Regardless, any demands to leave will be met.
I'm not running this program like a dictator, if a cyclist wants to go elsewhere then I'm not going to make them stay. I want what is best for them.
Names will not be released at this time, but will surface at the appropriate time to best help them find a new home (whether that's free agency or via a trade).
While Desigual wants a more international feel, it's become apparent our Spanish core is going to lead us early on. I'm OK with that and look forward to a pretty big rebuild this season. It's time to try something different.
Best of luck to our riders who will be wearing the Newton Foundation jersey for the final time in the National and World Championships. I wish I could change a few of their minds to join me again next season, but it's their decision.
To all the fellow managers that come across this, I will have multiple phones lines open this offseason to talk business. It's going to be a busy time.
I can't wait, Mre.

A very cool looking jersey, and an interesting direction for the team. Looking forward to seeing in the PT peloton

That is some nice retro kit.
Back to Spain is interesting but with the team history understandable. Wonder what impact this will have on your riders, mainly Van Garderen and Newton. Could the story end here?
Btw. Does Chupa Chups still exist? Haven`t seen those for ages. |

Nice to see the team turning spanish, I feel we need a few more spanish and italian teams. Also interesting to see your plans for the americans, one of the riders are really interesting, but that wage...

A real eye-sore of a jersey ( ), should be easy to spot!
Switch back to Spanish focus for PT push is certainly interesting given TvG then not such a good fit, but the only existing bona-fide PT level leader. Obviously have your sights on a big shake-up, good luck.

Great Jersey and very happy to see your team back in the PT where you belong! The increased Spanish focus should bring back the competitiveness we have had in transfer windows in the past so I look forward to that. Also looking forward to see how your team will shape up.

@All: Wow, thanks to all of you for stopping by. I have always loved this jersey. It's a hidden gem I found when creating a custom team for T.Newton back in the good ol' days. Glad I can bring it back to life in the man-game. Should be easy to spot us in the PT peloton.
As customary, I have now also updated my profile avatar to reflect my MG team. Really happy with how this one turned out.
