[CT] Garmin - BikeNZ Cycling
Scorchio
A number of good signings, and the return of loan riders looks to have beefed up the rider resources at Garmin BikeNZ. Team management look to have identified a challenging calendar for the upcoming season. A number of tough C1 races signed up for, and also a few clashes that will be difficult to manage (in particular Andora-Monterrey, Tours of America vs. Britain, and finally sprint stages races in Australia and Poland at the end of the season).

Additionally, the sponsor goals have been made more difficult with the arrival of a glut of riders to the CT focussed on similar objectives. I believe that these factors are going to make life more difficult than necessary for the Garmin squad, and hence will potentially limit point-scoring. The team is likely to have a fun time though with lots of great races to challenge the riders. Good luck for the season. Smile

Yeh we are definitely up for a very tough season! We still have put a lot of faith in our sprint squad in Von Hoff and Giacoppo with races like the Great Ocean Road Race. We also are put a lot of trust in Roe and Campero with a lot of big stage race goals. We feel as though the team will be able to stand up to these challenging goals and have a great season! We are looking for a top 10 in the CT standings which I think will be the toughest goal of all. Points have never been easy to come by for us but hopefully with Roe coming back Maxed and Campero joining the team as our main climber/stage racer, we hope that they, along with Von Hoff, can lead the team to glory!

As we head into the first races of the season, nerves are high! Riders want to get the season started and show that we are not a team at the back of the pack! First up, the Clasico San Cristobal!!

Clasico San Cristobal

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/profiles/c2/c2_csc.png

The opening race of the season is a one day hill classic! 187.6km in length with hills the entire way, this is not a race to take lightly. Leading the team today is Tarik Chaoufi. a good hill stat in 75. However, he lacks the backup stats like acceleration which is only 58. He will be helped by Crncevic, Daspuntsag, Gough, Kamzong, O'Connor, Petrus and Schultz.

Tour Down Under

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/profiles/c1/c1_tdu.png

The very first stage race of the MGUCI calendar! Lots of big riders here this year with the likes of Chris Froome, Di Maggio and Flügel predicted to lead the charge in this years edition. This year we decided to send all our local boys plus a kiwi and 1 Mongolian. Leading the team this year is Steele Von Hoff and Timothy Roe. Von Hoff is still searching for his first win and could possibly get that this season. Tim has recently joined us again after a year on loan and Jayco-Cobra9. Supporting these riders are Daspuntsag, Giacoppo, Gough, O'Connor, Schultz and Witmitz.

We will show reports of these races over the coming days!

"We send our deepest apologies to all the fans and followers of the team. We know this is unacceptable to disappear like we have since the first race of the season! We have been around but have failed to show that in the HQ of Garmin - BikeNZ Cycling. We apologise and would like to assure everyone that as a team, if we are allowed to continue, we will be here next year!"

This statement was issued coming off a strong result in the Tour of America with a stage win from Steele Von Hoff and a fantastic 9th overall from Piter Campero! Some great results as we grow ever closer to the end of the season! We hope that we still have your support and from now on we will be keeping you updated! Starting with the Tour of Japan in the next post which is off to a bang already!!

Continue to follow the thread for updates on the upcoming off season and whether or not we will be around next season!

The race in Japan started off with a short prologue! Flens was our best finished coming in 20th 8 seconds behind. The winner was Rohan Dennis with a very fast time!!

Tour of Japan

The rest of the race was really just full of breakaway attempts for us. Stage 2, 3 and 5 saw young Ben O'Connor and Clovis Kamzong get into the breakaways these days.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/C1/japan/MG17_japan_2_001.jpg

In stage 2 the breakaway couldn't stay away and it turned into a bunch sprint where Anthony Giacoppo managed to get into the top 10 and take 8th place which is a great result against this sprint field!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/C1/japan/MG17_japan_2_014.jpg

Stage 3 it was O'Connor again in the breakaway. However, that was as much as the team featured on the day.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/C1/japan/MG17_japan_3_001.jpg

Stage 5 Kamzong was in the breakaway and managed to stay at the front of the race the whole way to the end of the race. Getting caught by the favourites in the last few kilometres of the race. Kamzong stayed fairly close to the front group at the end of the race but didn't feature in the final sprint.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/C1/japan/MG17_japan_5_008.jpg

And the final stage saw no breakaway but Giacoppo again managed to sprint to a top 10 once again!!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/C1/japan/MG17_japan_6_008.jpg

Kamzong was our best placed GC rider coming in 34th place over 11 minutes behind GC winner Stefan Denifl.

Milano - Torino

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/profiles/c1/c1_mto.png

For us this race is not even worth mentioning. We were not in the breakaway, we were not in the front group and honestly was the biggest disappointment of the season. Our best finisher was Tim Roe 2'54" behind in 91st position.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/C1/Milano%20Torino/MT%2020.jpg

EBH destroys the field and takes the win. Great result for Grieg - Eftel

Colombian Venteaux

We can achieve a great result here! Campero is our leader and with the support of Time Roe and Kamzong he has a great team that can really give him the edge over other teams! The start list is strong but Campero is one of the top favourites!!

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/profiles/c2hc/c2hc_cov.png

As you can see there is only one main climb at the end of the race! We are really looking forward to this one!!!

Thanks!

Herald Sun Tour Recap

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/profiles/c2/c2_sht.png

We had high hopes for Steele Von Hoff here at the Herald Sun Tour. His home race and just off a great Tour Of America.

The opening stage we had O'Connor in the 4 man breakaway. The peloton decided they forgot how to chases so the breakaway almost won the stage only beaten at the line by Anderson of Goldcorp - Nordstrom Rack.

Stage 2 wasn't any better. Breakaway took the win, Maxime Monfort. Von Hoff came 2nd in the sprint 1'08 behind.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/C2/herald/MG17_herald_2_012.jpg

Stage 3 was the time trial. You can see what happened already right?

Monfort hold the lead and essentially wins the race. Tim Roe was our best finisher that day coming in 8th and moving to 8th overall.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/C2/herald/MG17_herald_3_012.jpg

Stage 4 was a bit better. Two riders in the top 10. Altanzul 4th and Von Hoff 9th. Winner was Eddie Stobart's Van der Ploeg from the breakaway.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/C2/herald/MG17_herald_4_010.jpg

The final stage, Breakaway win. This time Pellaud from Goldcorp - Nordstrom Rack. The worst part about it is that Steel Von Hoff won the bunch sprint for 7th place.

pcmdaily.com/images/mg/2017/Races/C2/herald/MG17_herald_5_010.jpg

So Monfort won the race overall. Roe finished 9th overall.

BikeNZ leaves...Garmin steps down

So with our best season yet being another disappointment, we struggle to keep sponsors once again. This time BikeNZ has decided that it is the for them to step down after 2 seasons as a main sponsor with us. It will be sad to see them leaving the team but the results just aren't where they wanted them to be.

Garmin has also expressed their dissatisfaction, however, they have decided to stick with the team as a minor sponsor for 1 more year in order to see if results will pick up in the 2018 season. They have said that if the results pick up, they will resume their role as a major sponsor in the 2019 season.

Also leaving is Golomt Bank who have been with us since the beginning. Another sponsor we are sad to see go.

Now, without further ado, Let us please present the sponsors for the coming season!

Major Sponsor

logos-download.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/09/BNZ_logo.png

The Bank of New Zealand takes up the mantle of our main sponsor of the team. For the first time since we were founded we only have one major sponsor. With this the team goes back to solely being a New Zealand team however, we have a strong influence from USA and Australia as always.

The Bank of New Zealand is a great asset to our team and we are very excited to have them join the team!

Minor Sponsors

fontmeme.com/images/Island-NEW-LOGO-2014.jpg

Island Records continue their sponsorship of the team! They were a great asset the past season and this year sees them up their sponsorship level. Island Records is now our 2nd highest paying sponsor and we really look forward to seeing what we can continue to do together in the future!

upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/c/c7/Garmin_logo.svg/2000px-Garmin_logo.svg.png

As mentioned Garmin has stepped down as a main sponsor. They are still on our sponsor list however. Garmin has been a huge asset and we hope they can continue to be apart of the team in coming seasons. Garmin supplies us with all our computer assets as well as some funds in order to make our team the best it can be!

bikehutto.files.wordpress.com/2015/05/01-peopleforbikes-logo-whitebg.jpg

People for Bikes is an amazing cause! We don't gain money or anything from this company but supporting them is enough for us! People for Bikes is amazing and we are very glad we have them on board once again this year!

Bike Sponsor

indycyclespecialist.com/wp-content/uploads/2017/04/felt-logo.jpg

Felt continues their sponsorship with the team! We love these bikes and are very happy to have them on the team once again!

Clothing Sponsor

www.triathlon.org.au/Assets/Triathlon+Australia+Digital+Assets/Logos/SCODY+LARGE+STACKED+LOGO.jpg

Scody is new to the team. The Australian company will create all of our clothing this season. We are very glad to have them on board and can't wait to see our jersey when they create it!

There you have it! The new sponsor for our team. The team will now be known as BNZ Cycling Team and we cannot wait to start the new season!
