Story of the Day
i.imgur.com/3cBQtYB.png
Astana's Stefano Nardelli opened up the debates. Later he was joined by Brendan Canty (ORS), Rafael Valls (KAT), Christopher Juul-Jensen (MOV).
i.imgur.com/c4AWdMt.png
Diego Ochoa, 4th for us earlier this week in Québec, landed at the other side of the barriers after a crash. Not ideal, though he resumed the race.
i.imgur.com/EZtqKAl.png
Zardini, who crashed out of the Giro earlier this year, fell too. With only three laps to go, he could forget about playing a role in today's outcome.
i.imgur.com/mz6T3PJ.png
Juul-Jensen attacked Nardelli after Valls, Canty had already lost contact. Heading into the ultimate 12km lap, the Dane had an advantage of 2'10".
i.imgur.com/puShhxY.png
Intxausti did not look on when the big guns refused to up the pace. The 2'10" lead however was highly unlikely to be bridged by one single man.
i.imgur.com/PKNjBXQ.png
Over the final climb, a group of five caught up. Ulissi, Majka, Landa, Van Gestel, Van Dingenen helped him to bring Stefano Nardelli within sight. A 1'10" gap for the last 3 kms would most probably suffice for Juul-Jensen.
i.imgur.com/6V9yn0d.png
Juul-Jensen triumphed from the breakaway. Aged 30, he got his first pro win at long last. Beñat sprinted to 4th & Pello to 10th from their groups.

A shame that it couldn't be the win, but the prime is yet to come for Vandenborre so in the future there may be that big Vuelta win for Ruralvia!

A shame it wasn't to be this year, but I don't doubt we'll be back to do better than a top 5 or a podium on the GT scene.

Great race for Sam. So close in the end. Surely he'll have many opportunities in the future. Great home GT for the team too Smile

The sponsor must be very happy, 2nd in the GC, U25 winner, points jersey, 4 stages in the home GT. Well done!

Second place on a final podium of a Grand Tour is a brilliant result for Sam Smile

So glad to see this story is still up and running! Just had to catch up on a few months of updates but I enjoyed every minute of it Smile

Shame about Sam's crash and getting stuck behind riders. Not the best of luck but wow, what a talented kid! Hope you have him locked up for a few years!

(Btw, how's Ion Izaguirre doing? Smile )

Sponsor will be delighted I think, the results gathered over the last 3 weeks clearly surpass Ruralvía's top-5 expectation. Many thanks for supporting us, we'll be back to do better. #HonorThePastThenGetOverIt Smile

Next year he'll have an expiring contract, so surely a real battle for his signature awaits! As for Ion, it's been rather silent after his GC 6th at the Giro. Came 3rd in the Spanish ITT Championships and 13th overall in Pologne. He's skipped both Québec and Montréal to prepare for the World Championships and Lombardia. Smile

Story of the Day
i.imgur.com/T5LduC3.png
Matteo Occhialini (LAM) was the only attacker who was not chased down.
i.imgur.com/5CdZXJe.png
He was reeled in again on the local circuit. With around 7.5km to go, our four-man sprint train for Manuel Martínez Montoro entered the stage.
i.imgur.com/Pixac7S.png
They did it so powerfully no one followed. The gap was sustained into the final km. Cortes led the train ahead of Bilbao, Barbero and Martínez.
i.imgur.com/GWYHYLL.png
The rest came close with their sprint, but the lead four were out of reach. Out of thankfulness, Cortes was gifted his second victory of this season.

Story of the Day
i.imgur.com/xHrqJLl.png
None of us was allowed into the break of the day, while four others were: Jakub Kaczmarek, Leonardo Scartabelli, Miguel Bryon & Alessio Lanzano.
i.imgur.com/FBYGyu5.png
Lanzano was the first to be dropped. The other three kept 1'35", heading towards the very last climb. The bunch had its prey within sight already.
i.imgur.com/JjMV3ZZ.png
Bryon lost contact uphill, while Ochoa played his card in the bunch. Over the top, he had gained 15" on the rest, but there were some 20 kms left.
i.imgur.com/6Mrcxu7.png
Ochoa slowed down to take his place in our train for Barbero. It was up to Andrónico Mendigain to catch up with the remaining escapees first.
i.imgur.com/AiwS6aV.png
The latter did and his job was done. Ochoa was Barbero's final leadout.
i.imgur.com/05JrMRp.png
Ochoa's effort opened a gap. Just Andrea Tomassini left to be dealt with.
i.imgur.com/nJHN7Ss.png
Barbero comfortably finished it off while Ochoa was rewarded with 2nd.
