First goal accomplished of the season for you iirc. Really great results you are having lately, leaving well behind the mid-table that you were risking with until a couple of weeks ago and now back in full force into the promotion battle. Something i don't really like, because you'll have also a great race in Faso and might even overtake me before the end of the month

Yes that was the first goal that we've achieved
We hoped to be a part of the promotion race and hopefully that's where we'll be back to after May. Looks like it's gonna be very tight at the top come the end of the season. Still time for that, but early signs show 7-9 contenders at least for direct promotion!

Any race where Drucker is the leader is an important one for us! This one was no less. We expected to be standing on the podium come the conclusion.
Stage 1
We had a low-key stage, but were attentive enough to keep Drucker at the front throughout. Per and Van Emden, who did most of the protecting work, also hung on to the front group. The break was reeled in early and our trio finished in a 19 man group which came to the line together, with Per, Drucker and Van Emden claiming 6th, 7th and 9th respectively.
Stage 2
We were quite sure that this stage would go to a breakaway and that's exactly what happened. Four riders, from both the early break and a late attack, held off the pack. Our best was Krieger in 11th and Bogdanovics in 12th. No change in the GC for our guys.
Stage 3
The lenghty cobbled section was expected to produce fireworks. It turned into a damp squib as a lone breakaway rider stayed away and took the win. Van Emden finished some way down in the next group to lose one GC position. Per and Drucker held on to their positions from Stage 1. Matzka was the best on this stage with 6th.
1 | Sam Harrison | World Cycling Centre | 8h26'39 | 6 | David Per | Philips - Continental | + 29 | 7 | Jempy Drucker | Philips - Continental | + 31 | 10 | Jos Van Emden | Philips - Continental | + 35 | 29 | Ralf Matzka | Philips - Continental | + 2'54 | 50 | Alexander Krieger | Philips - Continental | + 6'19 | 71 | Michel Kreder | Philips - Continental | + 19'07 | 98 | Maris Bogdanovics | Philips - Continental | + 28'42 | DNF | Albert Timmer | Philips - Continental |
We didn't get the podium, but the three top 10 finishes gives us many more points. An excellent race from Per and Van Emden. We would've wanted and hoped for Drucker to be on the podium, but the margins were thin and the fact that Stage 1 became the decisive stage had a role to play in it.
Per got us some more points by finishing second in the U25s. Winning the team classification gives us some more points, which is always welcome. A good end to the business end of May, which has been a good month for us.
Now onto Olympia, where we don't expect to be successful. A write-off so to say...

Our home race was one where the pressure was off. May had been a good month for us so far and we came into this race with no expectations anyway.
Stage 1
We got off to the best of starts with Grabovski claiming an impressive 5th place in the ITT. Something to really smile about on home ground. It has been some time coming from our top TT specialist.
Stage 2
Our goal in the flat stages was to stay out of trouble. we were not really expecting to be challenging in the sprints. We managed to stay out of trouble and Grabovski moved up a place in the GC at the end, courtesy Stelly Robert having a tough stage.
Stage 3
Per joined the breakaway on this stage.
He won all three intermediate sprints but could not hold on till the finish. We stayed out of trouble in the sprint and that was job done for the day.
Stage 4
More flats, more staying out of the limelight. We were not complaining though. No change in the standings.
Stage 5
The all important Team Time Trial had us hoping that Grabovski could hold on to a top 10 position. The team did well to finish 9th in a strong field. Grabovski dropped to 12th in the GC unfortunately but Van Zandbeek and Van Emden moved into points scoring positions. Per was up to 4th in the U25s.
Stage 6
Similar to the previous flat stages, we protected our position well. Grabovski lost a position to end up 13th because of time gains by another rider but both Van Emden and Van Zandbeek moved up a spot each in the standings. Per retained 4th in the U25 classification.
1 | Mikhail Ignatiev | Ferrero - Samruk | 14h23'08 | 13 | Dmitri Grabovski | Philips - Continental | + 34 | 26 | Ronan Van Zandbeek | Philips - Continental | s.t. | 28 | Jos Van Emden | Philips - Continental | + 1'05 | 32 | David Per | Philips - Continental | + 1'14 | 67 | Alexander Krieger | Philips - Continental | + 4'45 | 75 | Ralf Matzka | Philips - Continental | + 5'26 | 86 | Maris Bogdanovics | Philips - Continental | + 7'20 | 91 | Jempy Drucker | Philips - Continental | + 7'48 |
We told you to look out for Grabovski, and he finally delivered. Our home race wasn't the zero pointer that we were expecting, but gave us a handful of points. Our TT setup pulled out a very good performance when they needed to.
This rounds off a very good month for us, making up for the ground that we lost in March and April. If our calculations are correct, we should be back up to 4th in the table, our highest position since April.

We have reached the halfway stage of our first season in the Man Game. Coincidentally, we have completed exactly half of our race days! 60 RDs down, 60 RDs to go. We promise, we did not plan it to be this way
We started the season as one the contenders to be pushing for promotion. We placed ourselves as the 6th best team in the division, an opinion that was supported by some others in their predictions, if not exactly, but they put us in the 4th-8th vicinity.
| Jan | Feb | Mar | Apr | May | Total | Projected | Points | 102 | 164 | 61 | 29 | 276 | 632 | 1264 | RDs | 14 | 13 | 7 | 9 | 17 | 60 | | PpRD | 7.29 | 12.62 | 8.71 | 3.22 | 16.24 | 10.53 | | Rank | 6 | 4 | 6 | 9 | 5 | | 7 |
We started off the season quite well, ending February in 4th place after our first eight races. In March and April, we were involved in only four races, and we were off the pace in most of them, and saw a resultant drop in rankings to 9th. We bounced back in May to post our best ever points and PpRD, and should climb back up to 4th (EDIT: we are 5th actually) in the division.
Having completed exactly half of our RDs the calculation for our projected score is simple enough, just double what we've got so far. That gives us a projected 1264 points for the season. Comparing with the final standings from last season, we would've ended up in 7th place. That is lower than our expected 6th place finish at the start of the season.
However, the trend this year has been lower points than what was picked up by CT teams last year, with the mandatory C2HC races having a major impact on the same. As such, we believe that getting to 1264 will mean we finish in the direct promotion spots.
Race | Points | RDs | PpRD | Tour du Faso | 124 | 3 | 41.33 | Vuelta a Tachira | 86 | 10 | 8.60 | Geraardsbergen - Bosberg | 80 | 2 | 40.00 | Euskal Bizikleta | 74 | 4 | 18.50 | Cacak Classic | 48 | 2 | 24.00 | Kuurne - Bruxelles - Kuurne | 40 | 2 | 20.00 | Barcelona Classic | 39 | 2 | 19.50 | Giro del Trentino | 34 | 5 | 6.80 | Olympia's Tour | 23 | 6 | 3.83 | Tour de Langkawi | 23 | 7 | 3.29 | Bayern Rundfahrt | 21 | 5 | 4.20 | San Cristobal Classic | 11 | 2 | 5.50 | Gisborne GP | 11 | 2 | 5.50 | Windhoek Classic | 7 | 2 | 3.50 | San Marino Hill Classic | 6 | 2 | 3.00 | Great Ocean Road Classic | 5 | 2 | 2.50 | Gent - Wevelgem | 0 | 2 | 0.00 |
The table above shows our performance in the races we've participated in so far. The Tour du Faso was our best race followed by Vuelta a Tachira, albeit the latter had seven RDs more. Geraardsbergen - Bosberg was our best Classic, despite us missing our 'Win Race' goal there.
We have already raced three goal races, but have only been able to achieve our goal in one of them. As mentioned above, we didn't achieve our goal in Geraardsbergen, missing out by one position, but did so in Euskal Bizikleta. We were not even close to achieving it in Great Ocean Road Classic.
Races like Bayern Rundfarht, Windhoek Classic and Great Ocean Road Classic were disappointing. Gent - Wevelgem was an absolute disaster.
Rider | Points | RDs Used | PpRD | RDs Left | Projected Points | Drucker | 116 | 24 | 4.83 | 22 | 222 | Wyss | 100 | 14 | 7.14 | 36 | 357 | Bardet | 89 | 34 | 2.62 | 18 | 136 | Kreder | 71 | 26 | 2.73 | 19 | 123 | Per | 62 | 31 | 2.00 | 32 | 126 | Van Emden | 59 | 33 | 1.79 | 27 | 107 | Grabovski | 35 | 20 | 1.75 | 33 | 93 | Matzka | 23 | 27 | 0.85 | 20 | 40 | Krieger | 19 | 34 | 0.56 | 18 | 29 | Ruijgh | 12 | 34 | 0.35 | 26 | 21 | Costa | 12 | 24 | 0.50 | 33 | 29 | Battaglin | 11 | 34 | 0.32 | 18 | 17 | Van Zandbeek | 10 | 28 | 0.36 | 32 | 21 | Bogdanovics | 9 | 29 | 0.31 | 15 | 14 | Timmer | 4 | 25 | 0.16 | 40 | 10 | Leezer | 0 | 35 | 0.00 | 30 | 0 | Scotson | 0 | 16 | 0.00 | 29 | 0 | | | | | | 1346 |
As expected, Drucker has been the highest scoring rider for us in the first half of the season. However, Wyss is the rider who has provided the best return in terms of PpRD. Bardet in the mountains and Kreder in the sprints have been our other major contributors. On-loan Per is our 5th highest scorer, which is a sign of the huge potential he has. We think Isostar have a star for the future on their roster!
The biggest disappointments so far have been Krieger, Costa and Battaglin. A total of just 42 between them is not what we were hoping for at this stage of the season. We need them to step up to share the point scoring duties in the team.
The projected points in this table is higher than that from the monthly analysis. This is because this table does not take into consideration the RDs our riders will ride in their non-favoured terrain. As such, we expect to lose out on about a combined 100-150 points from this total. Effectively, we're actually looking at lower points from the second half of the season!
Only two riders have not scored points, Leezer and on-loan Scotson.
Race | Leader 1 | Leader 2 | Lillestrom GP | Drucker | Krieger | Circulo de Juarez | Krieger | | Tour d'Andorra | Bardet | Battaglin | Tour de San Luis | Wyss | Costa | Tour of the Battenkill | Drucker | Wyss | Tour of Bulgaria | Bardet | Battaglin | Benelux Challenge | Drucker | Wyss | Grands Prix Cyclistes | Wyss | Costa | Paris Tours | Krieger | | Tour of Britain | Wyss | Kreder | GP Yekaterinburg | Wyss | Costa | Colombian Venteaux | Bardet | Battaglin | Herald Sun Tour | Kreder | Grabovski | Course de Solidarnosc | Krieger | | Zuri Metzgete | Wyss | Costa |
The table above shows the races coming up for us and the riders who will lead us there.
Positives:
Wyss has a lot of RDs left and most of them are in his favoured hills. This is will be key to our promotion push.
Drucker has three races as leader left.
Negatives:
Krieger is solo leader in three races. We don't expect much from those races.
12 of Drucker's remaining RDs are not in his favoured cobbles terrain.
Two stage races and a Classic remain in the mountains. Despite Bardet's good run so far, we're not sure how well they will turn out. Battaglin hasn't been a success at all.
Our Palmares is up to date as well and available here.

Interesting read once again. It should be a close fight for direct promotion. Just realized that I will report 5 of your next 6 races, so I better shut my mouth and stop talking about what might happen with Philips eventually

Huge month of May you had! Really great for you (Although i'm not happy with that )
Quite interesting the contrast in the way our teams score, with your team being basically all about the depth, without a major scorer, and likely finishing the season with 6/7 100+ scorers. Also you "stole" my idea of doing a mid-season report
And despite you constantly saying that you'll finish 6th, i still believe you'll be in the top4

As tsmoha said, it should be a very close battle for direct promotion, with (imo) five teams currently battling for two spots behind the top three and one team right behind, with four other teams not far off either but unlikely to get past enough. The fact that if you add all that up they are over half the division is stunning
But Philips should be one of the top two in that for sure, May showed the power of your team with Wyss showing a little bit of AI luck for sure but also the strength of his stats, and the depth scoring in Faso was amazing. Your rivals at Xero HQ are certainly very jealous that you've turned around the poor March and April we shared but we haven't

I'm just so happy how well you go, especially looking at how our youngster Per has delivered for you. We believe that Philips is the perfect place for his development.
And it's perfect to see how every rider is valuable at yours. Even the low point riders worked for the team very well this year.
You'll promote.

@tsmoha: It will be extremely close in the promotion race, you're right. For now, we'll hope that your version of PCM likes us the best
@Aquarius: Well, June will turn it around again I'm sure. Valls alone is equal to 3/4 of my top scorers . I'd have the done the report earlier if there was no Olympia . Top 4 looks like a stretch tbh but I'll hope that you are right!
@jandal: You summed up my thoughts perfectly in the first paragraph. Right now, from the latest CT standings, without trying to be unfair to anyone, I still believe everyone down till 11th in the standings can promote. That is a huge lottery. Also, June and July should see you turn things around without the bad luck you've been suffering. Roux and Bennett should have a good couple of months.
@Croatia: Thank you for the confidence as always. And a bigger thank you for Per . We knew he'd be good but if he ends up with his projected 126 points at the end of the season, that'll be HUGE for our promotion push! Just hope our 'second leaders' in Mountains, Hills and Sprints can step up now.
The statistics are updated post the CT rankings update for May. We severely underestimated the points cycleYorkshire would score, and offer our apologies to ryant for that.
As a further general observation, we would do well if we end up with as many points as we are projected for at the moment. However, given what is left, I find it hard to figure out how we'll score the same amount of points as we did till now. The main problem is Kreder and Drucker not having enough useful RDs. As such, we don't see how Kreder gets past the 100 point mark or Drucker past 200, unless we get lucky. Depth scoring will continue to help the cause, but time for at least a couple of riders below Van Emden in the table to have some good races!

Consolidation Time - June Preview
"The Future in Motion"
Rider | Role | Jempy Drucker | Leader | Alexander Krieger | Sprint Co-Leader | Maris Bogdanovics | Sprint Leadout | Jos Van Emden | Cobbles Domestique | Tom Leezer | Cobbles Domestique | Albert Timmer | Pace Setter | Ralf Matzka | Cobbles Domestique | David Per | Free Role |
Drucker lines up as the leader of a cobbles race and that should not be a surprise. We take Krieger to this for the small chance of it ending up in a bunch sprint, with Bogdanovics and possibly Matzka in support. The latter will also be a decent help on the cobbles along with Van Emden and Leezer. Per gets to do whatever he wants. Expectations: Top 3
Watch Out For: David Per
Rider | Role | Jempy Drucker | Sprint Train | Alexander Krieger | Sprint Co-Leader | Dmitri Grabovski | Pace Setter | Maris Bogdanovics | Sprint Leadout | Jos Van Emden | Pace Setter | Ronan Van Zandbeek | Pace Setter | Ralf Matzka | Sprint Train | Miles Scotson | Domestique |
Alexander Krieger leads a rare race for us and that's where it starts getting difficult to predict our success. He finished 4th overall last season in this race and we'll be jumping around in joy if that happens again. However, given the evidence so far this season we're not getting our hopes too high. The flat team in support of him is quite strong. We'd like to ask Krieger to use that and prove to us that his signing was justified. Expectations: Top 15
Watch Out For: Jos Van Emden
Rider | Role | Romain Bardet | Co-Leader | Enrico Battaglin | Co-Leader | Rob Ruijgh | Domestique | Jos Van Emden | Domestique | Ronan Van Zandbeek | Domestique | Albert Timmer | Domestique | David Per | Free Role | Miles Scotson | Domestique |
Bardet has done very well in the mountains so far, up against stronger climbers in the division. Andorra, however, might be too big a bite to swallow. Not being the strongest climber will hurt him in the long climbs. Plus, he's horrible against the clock. Not a recipe for success with the stages lined up here. Battaglin has been struggling for the most part. We perhaps messed up with our support in this race too. However, the only rider we could've brought as a domestique who isn't here is Costa, and that wouldn't be much of an upgrade to be honest! Expectations: Top 15
Watch Out For: David Per

This looks like a Per month. I can see huge depth points for you in Lilleström. Krieger and Bogdanovics seem like a fitting Circulo punch, good idea to not send Kreder there. And Andorra is a wild card race. I'd be surprised to see you scoring many GC points, but the stage results could be on your side. Hoping for KOM and an attack firework of your leading duo. Stages 2 & 5 look like the perfect ones for strong mountain breakaway riders. Don't like van Emden and Per there though, seem a little bit wasted - only stage 3 or an early polka dot as chances for them. But hopefully they proof my critics to be wrong.
This month should be at least solid, and it leaves quite some potential to be a huge month for Philips ( )

I'd take a huge Per month!
Hopefully, we get our act together in Juarez otherwise Lillestrom might become the only decent race we have this month (hope I'm not jinxing it). I already mentioned that our team selection is far from ideal for Andorra. But remember Per's win came from the break in Tachira, so hoping he, or someone else, can do something similar here.
Thanks again for the constant faith in the team

The race was a tough one right from the start with an early crash for four riders and a few punctures, including one for Van Emden. We did a lot of work to chase the early break and it was caught with more than 50 km still to go.
Things really kicked off with 30 km to go. Bush was the first to make an attack, immediately countered by Drucker.
They got reeled in but the pair attacked again on the next cobbled sector. They were unsuccessful again, with a 12 rider elite group now forming at the front with 17 km to go. Following another Bush attack, and another Drucker counter, the lead group got whittled down to just five riders, including Drucker. And then the picture which defined our race...
Drucker fell on the final cobbled sector, with just 6 km to go. He got dropped by the first two groups and didn't recover. He won the sprint from the third big group to reach the line, but that only gave him 11th place when a podium was looking likely!
No one else could finish in the points for us either.
1 | Guillaume Van Keirsbulck | Goldcorp - Nordstrom Rack | 5h20'44 | 11 | Jempy Drucker | Philips - Continental | + 4'19 | 35 | Tom Leezer | Philips - Continental | + 8'16 | 40 | Ralf Matzka | Philips - Continental | s.t. | 41 | David Per | Philips - Continental | s.t. | 54 | Jos Van Emden | Philips - Continental | +13'05 | 88 | Maris Bogdanovics | Philips - Continental | +23'04 | DNF | Albert Timmer | Philips - Continental | | DNF | Alexander Krieger | Philips - Continental |
A cruel way to lose out on massive points, but we can't really do anything about it. A bit disappointing that no one else could provide some depth points for us, despite sending a strong cobbles squad. Let's just hope this isn't a sign of things to come for the rest of the month.

Hate to see Jempy crashing on that final section, incredibly cruel.
You seem to be on the receiving end of quite a few crashes. Hoping these stop as you’re not deserving of that treatment.
