It's going to be really interesting to see what he can do on the GT scene.

Really impressive layout
Thank you both! Hopefully our racing will be just as pleasing.
To paint a broader picture of how ready our 23 year old team leader is, I'd like to remind you of his performances earlier this year:

Go go Sam!
Have to say this is probably the best story I've seen since Salvatore Puccio, Il Bimbo, etc. a few years ago. Stunning work, as others have said that GT preview layout is amazing. Haven't been following as closely as I should for a while but it seems you've got quite a talent in Vandeborre, hope for a big result here. As a non-Movistar Spanish team in a TTT 11th is a win
I have to say despite the lovely layout Valverde at Sky makes me need some eyebleach
24/02/21 - kandesbunzler said “I don't drink famous people."
15/08/22 - SotD said "Your [jandal's] humour is overrated"
11/06/24 - knockout said "Winning is fine I guess. Truth be told this felt completely unimportant."

Many thanks for the kind words, jandal. They're very much appreciated.
Vandenborre's an interesting talent, really. Turned pro mainly as a climber, yet his first wins were time trials (Belgian NC and a stage in Catalunya). Afterwards started winning mountainous stage races (Austria, Languedoc) but no stages. Then this year mountain stage wins in California and Burgos appeared. Hope he'll be able to cope with the entire Grand Tour happening.
As for Valverde, my 3000th post includes an early Christmas scoop:

Vattenfall Cyclassics (1.UWT)
Hamburg, 214.6 kms
Poor Sébastien Reichenbach saw every attack after his neutralised, so he was condemned to spend his time in the break of the day all on his own. When so little happens, concentration tends to go down. A crash was the almost logical feat at the back of countless monotone kilometers. Bilbao, Grijalba and Demare went down, but everyone soon rejoined the bunch. Over the final Waseberg climb, American champion William Barta became the one to draw the sprinter teams out. His move got neutralised, and so were the next ones. Reichenbach had around 1' left, 20 kilometers to go. Reichenbach finally surrendered just ahead of the last lap. Our men kept up extremely well, holding on to their position close to the absolute front. Izagirre attacked in the last 5 km. Matteo Trentin jumped on his wheel. The Italian tried to shake Ion, yet the opposite happened. He neared the red kite with a slight advantage over Gaviria and his leadout man Benito. Having opened up a gap already, the Colombian had no troubles finishing the job. Bonifazio and Barbero sprinted to the remaining podium places. Vuelta a España (2.UWT)
Stage 2/21, 169.9 kms
Atop the 3rd cat. Alto del Cabrito, Eliot Lietaer secured the very first blue mountain jersey. After that he'd have to manage without nobody joining. The pack let him play until the final 4 km, as sprint trains took the stage. Sunweb's train was disordered in a messy finale, Kittel moved forward on his own. He was about to jump onto Degenkolb's wheel as he passed by. However somehow, the German top sprinter got boxed in, which allowed Giacomo Nizzolo to open up a gap beneath the second La Vuelta red kite. The Italian could not keep his speed up, paying for launching early. Kittel sat too far back to do anything about Sagan beating Wippert on the final 175m. Manuel MartÃnez disappointed by crossing the line in 14th place. Vuelta a España (2.UWT) Stage 3/21, 185.4 kms
Giacomo Tomio and Jonathan Klever were the only ones to be granted a little space by the pack. Having come second on the first climb, Klever got dropped on the next. Our Ecuadorian was reeled in shortly after that. Meanwhile, overall contender Robert Power sat in big trouble, reason was unknown. His teammates needed a low pace in order for him to keep up. Tomio was reeled in ahead of the last labeled climb, on which the peloton remained vast. On the descent the pace suddenly went down, persuading Astana's Davide Villella into accelerating, entering the last 25 kilometers. His try didn't last, and neither did Angel Cerezo's. The rush to the uphill final 1000 m in Arcos de la Frontera started as Sam was sitting far back. Eneco stage winner Kiserlovski was a splendid leadout for Louis Meintjes, who hit the last 500 m with slight advantage over Kelderman & Gallopin. Turns out 500 m was just a little too long for the South African, who saw Kelderman beat him on the line. Sam moved through the bunch to a 7th. Vuelta a España (2.UWT) Stage 4/21, 171.7 kms
Jonathan Klever was part of the breakaway group which went through. Markus Hoelgaard & Gianni Moscon were his two companions for the day. It came as a surprise that he lost contact on the 3rd category Alto de San Jerónimo. Not a single rider was dropped from the bunch coming behind. Klever was about to suffer the same fate on the steeper Alto del Catorce Por Ciento when Chávarri raised the pace in the bunch. The thin Basque reeled everybody in, then distanced those who had been trying to follow. He gained a 40" bonus over the pack but two Tinkoff guard dogs bridged, then remained glued to Eder's wheel. All together into the final downhill. The peloton was thinned by several crashes in the descent. Knowing that none of our three men present in the group would stand a chance in the bunch sprint, Lature vainly tried a move that's neutralized by Bouhanni. Vandenborre grabbed Wippert's wheel and ended up at the right side of a little split. He would not be able to follow a new push by Tinkoff's men. And eventually their chasing didn't pay off as Matthews came out on top. Sam Vandenborre finished this bunch sprint in a respectable 8th place. Vuelta a España (2.UWT) Stage 5/21, 176.5 kms
Reinders, Van Keirsbulck, Dibben were the first and only attackers. Their advantage would increase to a maximum of a little more than 6 minutes. The trio challenged each other on the cat.2 Puerto del Saltillo but no-one got dropped. Dibben tried over the top, Van Keirsbulck chased him down. Then Van Keirsbulck accelerated in turn. Because of Reinders' collapsing, Dibben had to bridge himself. He caught up before the red kite in Ronda. Van Keirsbulck easily beat a tired Dibben for his maiden GT win. None of the GC contenders moved, no shifts ahead of the Cumbres Verdes stage.
