Yet another month has passed in the MG season. It was a little bit of every thing but mountains even though the season of the cobblers has started and probably had the biggest impact on the performances. Not yet done and hence next month will give them more opportunities.
But let`s start with a race for race check. No PT stage race in March. Though 2 of PTHC category as also one classic against PCT teams. Then 2 PT classics as also the second PT monument. This time on cobbles in the Ronde Van Vlaanderen.
The Chrono Herbiers saw three teams really getting big points. Festina, RBC and Porto all with ~250 and hence far ahead of the rest. Except for Hugo Boss with 116 all had less then 100 or not even half of this.
Then a PTHC event in South Africa with the SAA sprinter days. 4 flat stages and it`s Ben Swift defending the title without a stage win. Hence Aegon with biggest points here. Strava, Spotify and Iberia coming next.
Pais Vasco also saw strong PT teams. Strava with their known depth on hilly terrain. They didn`t win the race but were top scoring team in the PT division. Also Evonik, Tinkoff, Gazelle or Hugo Boss with decent performances here.
So let`s get to the cobbles. One team easily stood out. No surprise. Sam Bewley simply won them all. Hence Moser scored huge in Strade Appia, E3 and the Ronde! Coming close is Evonik as GVA is usually best of the rest and same this year. Stunning scoring for both of them.
Other than thow two Aker MOT had a huge depth with three in the top10 in Strada Appia and hence even winning the team scoring. They also had a great other two cobbled events while also RBC with Summerhill were doing pretty well.
In total this means Moser defends the lead and even improved on other big favourites such as Festina or Pendleton`s, who both drop a bit behind the strong March performers.
Strava really can`t do bad, no matter the division. Up to 3rd in the rankings already. Evonik as well taking profit from the early season hill/sprint/cobble focus and climb to 2nd just behind Moser as best of the rest. Once in the mountains, they might lose against the teams behind.
Really far behind the teams having biggest focus on the GTs. Wiesenhof yet to unveil Taaramae, same with Vesuvio and Andy Schleck.
eBuddy also hoping for another big Gesink performance while Nemiroff already successfully performed with Pluchkin but focus clearly is on a GT win.
Hence teams just ahead such as Ayubowan or Hugo Boss really need to be afraid as well.
Promoted teams next to Strava doing well in average with peaks and lows. Spotify and Porto in the mid field in addition to the other mentioned.

A bit different look at the different terrains. Not yet showing the full picture as not all terrains had same amount of events. Though giving a good overview over the different teams.
Cobbles as said sees 3 big teams: Moser, Evonik and Aker. If you ignore Bewley`s dominance, you see that having good depth also leads to almost same scoring.
Mountains so far sees Nemiroff in front. Though also one of the few teams to let their big star ride already.
Hills see Strava and Moser being first. Gazelle, Hugo Boss, Jayco, Evonik or Moser also with big focus here.
Sprinter teams clearly Aegon with Swift, Moser with Bewley, Festina with a strong Coquard so far. Also Spotify with Ahlstrand or Porto with Avelino and Iberia with Degenkolb doing well scoring wise but in especially in last had hoping for more.
In PTHC Strava is the top team scoring almost half of their total points in those races. That said, they apparently also used more PTHC rd yet and could struggle once having less opportunities there.
Also Evonik having done well in those.
| | | Team | Cob | Mo | Hi | Fl | PTHC | Total | | 1 | 1 | | Moser - Sygic | 851 | 71 | 832 | 732 | 395 | 2532 | | 2 | 6 | | Evonik - ELKO | 775 | 42 | 596 | 492 | 516 | 1920 | | 3 | 4 | | Strava | 325 | 126 | 895 | 512 | 753 | 1878 | | 4 | 3 | | Festina - Dexia | 191 | 254 | 397 | 740 | 207 | 1831 | | 5 | 2 | | Pendleton's | 379 | 279 | 547 | 391 | 214 | 1636 | | 6 | 19 | | Aker - MOT | 700 | 213 | 457 | 172 | 330 | 1586 | | 7 | 14 | | RBC Pro Cycling | 418 | 389 | 260 | 206 | 154 | 1524 | | 8 | 7 | | Aegon - Lavazza | 77 | 116 | 462 | 799 | 328 | 1522 | | 9 | 10 | | Jayco - Cobra9 | 295 | 227 | 655 | 205 | 306 | 1470 | | 10 | 5 | | Team Puma - SAP | 271 | 229 | 490 | 374 | 73 | 1416 | | 11 | 11 | | Spotify - Haglöfs | 297 | 96 | 355 | 585 | 329 | 1382 | | 12 | 8 | | Gazelle | 98 | 309 | 738 | 179 | 263 | 1365 | | 13 | 9 | | Porto - Prio | 62 | 136 | 334 | 538 | 60 | 1328 | | 14 | 16 | | Iberia - Team Degenkolb | 351 | 107 | 306 | 533 | 426 | 1317 | | 15 | 15 | | Hugo Boss | 45 | 174 | 642 | 228 | 242 | 1205 | | 16 | 17 | | Tinkoff Sport Academy | 125 | 111 | 679 | 235 | 268 | 1183 | | 17 | 18 | | Ayubowan! | 272 | 227 | 233 | 305 | 250 | 1075 | | 18 | 12 | | Nemiroff - ABBYY | 50 | 521 | 261 | 136 | 89 | 1015 | | 19 | 13 | | eBuddy | 125 | 102 | 434 | 305 | 62 | 1009 | | 20 | 20 | | Vesuvio - Accumalux | 225 | 74 | 484 | 123 | 155 | 983 | | 21 | 21 | | Wiesenhof - Andritz | 221 | 69 | 172 | 144 | 118 | 659 | | 22 | 22 | | Project: Africa | 5 | 0 | 76 | 133 | 0 | 224 |
In the individual rankings Bewley keeps the lead ahead of Swift. Both had good months and hence already scored really well. Bewley already with a good gap to the others and remains top favourite for the title.
Van Avermaet made a big step up from late top30 to 3rd.
Also Phinney and Degenkolb moved up into the top 10 while sprinters in general made some big jumps. Ahlstrand and Guarnieri two examples due to the SAA Tour.

On the plus side Gesink's season hasn't started yet and the Ardennes classics should be better than the cobbled ones.
On the bad side I think I made some huge mistakes in planning Grosu's season.

Not really seeing any riders on my team overperform, as perhaps some other teams have had, and it kinda shows. The Keinath/Konig transfers, while undoubtedly strengthening the team depth, isn't really demonstrating rankings value as yet.
Vuelta can't come quick enough

It's a nice thing that Chrono des Herbiers was this month. We keep falling every step of the way, but that was expected at this point. Our lack of depth really stands out in these rankings.
Here's hoping for a reasonable Giro.
Strava doing really well so far, as some predicted. Pendelton still strong despite a weaker month.
Thanks for another update roturn!

An expected drop for us after a bad monument and only taking part in half of this month's races.
Some gaps look doable, some look dangerous like Strava and Evonik, and I'd also like to be ahead of Aegon before the cobbles end.
We're up to 12 rd down on some teams, which would've made a pprd ranking interesting to see, but then again even such a big gap is basically just the Volta a Portugal, so that'll be the focal point of our season.

Team Bewley doing really well, if Sagan does something remotely similar in the Ardennes, they could go far this season!
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Rankings look okay but they could also be better. MSR has been a nice surprise but we've also seen several underperforming races (especially by Van Stayen).
Strava so high is awesome. Already a huge gap to the relgation zone where many expected them. Kudos to them!
A Big Thank You To All MG Reporters!

Sorry guys! I don't know how, but there seems to have been a rather huge mistake in the ranking file in Pais Vasco. So Strava got 160 points more than they should, Evonik 100 points more and some more for Tinkoff and Gazelle also.
Most likely my fault, so sorry!

By the way, wasn't there supposed to be a cobbled U23 race this month?
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

So far things are running according to schedule. The gap is exactly what we expected.

Nice update, thanks!
We need to do better if we want to avoid a repeat of last year's relegation battle.

Right in the middle again, we are happy with that
Nice to see that we are amongst the lowest RD.
Ahlstrand climbing in the ind. ranking about where he should be compared to the other sprinters.
Still Abal about to start racing. |

Pleased with the ranking and making it on the podium for now, and love sharing with my mates over at Evonik. We obviously won't stay here but alas, it's nice for now. Pais Vasco was a great race for us but it sucks with what could have been possible, given Bakelants strong position on the last day and then this nonsensical point loss of going down two places.
Giro could be some good points and then it is crossing fingers for a successful Ardennes campaign. Afterwards, we will see if Strava manages to avoid relegation.

I am really unhappy. So much money spent for such a huge disaster. At least so far. Come on Petr. Improve.
Otherwise things are looking quite good for my team, but Festina are surely still the biggest favourites. Quite a lot surprised to see Strava being so high, congrats. Also nice to see that cobble depth matters a lot, nice things are happening for Aker.
Thanks for the update.

Pleased to see us climb a lot now that the cobbles have made an impact. Though, I fear for what will come next after Paris-Roubaix, as the Ardennes could be something completely diferent to what I've gotten used to with EBH. Hopefully Beltran and Dyrnes can score some points there, and avoid a drop similar to the gains we made this month.
Agree with Roman that Festina still is the favourite for the title, especially as Moser's abilities and points scoring material in GTs and stage races is difficult to assess.
Thank you for the update, roturn! |

The problem is not the current position as 9th, but the scoring output in some key races. Low key results in P-N, T-A, Pais and also Herbiers and E3. The past two months surely did not go as good as they could/should have go. Well. Maybe the Giro will turn a few things around.
Thanks for the update!

We are falling behind, farther than I like, but hopefully the next period will be better. I hope Mattia can do something in the Giro (and with that field I can hope), Zepuntke was awesome in Paris-Roubaix and the Rein will finally start his season in Liechtenstein
