CT Preview - We Love 'Support' Stats
- by AbhishekLFC Welcome to my preview of the 2017 ManGame Continental Division. Before starting off with the previews, I would like to explain how I’ll be presenting it and the methodology for arriving at the predictions.
I have come up with something called the ‘Coefficient Rankings’ which is the basis for all the rankings. These rankings have been made on six attributes for the riders – Stage Races, Climbing, Punchers, Sprinting, Cobbles and Time Trialing – using certain formulae for calculation.
They are explained below…
Stage Races – Using MO, HIL, TT and a certain combination of other stats
Climbing – Using MO, HIL and a certain combination of other stats
Punchers – Using HIL, ACC and a certain combination of other stats
Sprinting – Using SP, ACC and a certain combination of other stats
Cobbles – Using COB, SP and a certain combination of other stats
Time Trial – Using TT, PRL and a certain combination of other stats
This was used to come up with individual ratings for all riders. These ratings were then used in two ways to come up with the team rankings.
This is explained as follows…
Coefficient Leader Rating – Indicative of strength of leading riders in each team
Coefficient Average Rating – Indicative of squad depth in each discipline
Finally, Racedays for different types of terrains were incorporated to come up with the final Team Standings. Note:
2 riders have been taken as leaders for Stage Races and Cobbles. For other disciplines, 3 best riders have been taken as leaders.
4 riders have been taken as team depth for Stage Races. 5 riders have been taken as team depth for Cobbles. 8 riders have been taken as depth for other disciplines.
I have taken the stats at face value and have not considered possible permutations to race planning. Feel free to ask for any queries in the thread.
Raceday Exclusions: HC Wildcards After the co-efficient rankings are unveiled, I will also post a history based prediction using the rider rankings I posted earlier, and using the points gathered by riders finishing in respective positions last season. Let's see how close the two predictions are.

Comparing the two rankings, the top 5 and the bottom 4 remain the same, although their orders change a bit. A couple of big losers in the points based ranking is Sauber and Reddit, who do well in formulas but not based on historical data. cycleYorkshire and Ettix improve significantly, the former riding on Tvetcov's prowess a lot. Eddie Stobart lose out on handful of positions in the second ranking.
I do not agree exactly with these results myself. I will talk mostly of the co-efficient rankings as it is my baby. I don't think we'll end up 4th but should end up a couple of places further down. Xero should take our place in the top 5 and get automatic promotion. Lower down, Repsol should get into the top 10, at the expense of Yorkshire. Goldcorp should end up a few places higher while both SanCor and Garmin would probably be a couple of places lower.
I leave the rest to debate. Had a lot of fun coming up these. And a big thanks to Jandal for helping with the Minijerseys, and to Knockout and Croatia for tips

Pretty much expected for us - the lack of a second man behind Vandenbergh and Clarke really drags down two terrains where we aren't that bad for a leader but depth is terrible. Nice to see our trio being a little more respected by these stats  7th/8th is pretty much our prediction for us and not that bad.
Again fantastic work here Abhishek, plenty of juicy stats to delve into and a huge effort on your part for a neat, good-looking but very interesting prediction 
24/02/21 - kandesbunzler said “I don't drink famous people."
15/08/22 - SotD said "Your [jandal's] humour is overrated"
11/06/24 - knockout said "Winning is fine I guess. Truth be told this felt completely unimportant."

Really interesting preview this one. As always, the formulas seems to favour some teams who shouldn't be that high, and others are really affected by it.
Thinking most of Reddit or Wiggle (high) and Goldcorp (low) (in the co-efficient based)

@Jandal: As always, thank you for the motivation . My formulas don't really do justice to your team I believe. You should be one of the favourites to promote in my eyes.
@Weirdskyfan: I've got you, Sauber and Campari down as the sleeper success stories of the CT this year. Very much under the radar for you guys so far.
@Aquarius: Reddit are actually the reason I increased the effect of support stats in my formulas. They should challenge for the top 10 in my eyes. You guys will probably do so too. Agree with you about Goldcorp but disagree about Wiggle. I believe the latter should end up near their predicted places.
@Tamijo: You're quite solid otherwise though

More nice work from AbhisheckLFC, another of the most active new managers, hence recipient of today's 'Top Banana' (a phrase I have never used in my life until yesterday, now twice in 2 days ).
Not quite sure how exactly the 'historic' based ratings are arrived at for riders that weren't in the division last year, but certainly interesting outcomes. I am expecting (as in the past 2 seasons) that 1500 points is the finish line to secure a guaranteed promotion place in the top 5.

Points of riders finishing in the same position as I've predicted for the current riders were summed up team-wise. Haven't used last season's points for the current CT riders.
