van den Broeck is easily the best steal of the entire season I think.
Having said that, I think you could be in some trouble this season, having gone pretty "all-in" on talents like Domen Novak, Enric Mas and the not working bids for Pierre Latour. In the end those three riders costed you a total of 800€ I think. And as a PCT team it will be very difficult to survive with that much wage cap spent on riders who won't score any points.
I do hope that I am very wrong though! A team gambling like that is a team I like

@Sotd: I know it is most definitely a gamble to go in on talents but I certainly have belief in my riders that it'll pay off and if it doesn't then at least I am going to be better prepared if I do go down!

Star Stage Race Talent Signed!
We just announced that Mas, a Spanish climbing talent, will be with the team for the next few seasons but we now come with more big news regarding the future of the team. There were only so many talents available and we were limited as to what we could afford given our wage cap so without further ado.
Domen Novak
22 years old : 230,000 : Pot 6 : Lvl1.0
| FLA | MO | HIL | TT | STA | RES | REC | COB | SPR | ACC | FTR | DH | PRO | Current | 67 | 70 | 69 | 65 | 71 | 71 | 70 | 61 | 64 | 69 | 64 | 72 | 63 | Method 1 | 70 | 79 | 74 | 72 | 78 | 78 | 79 | 61 | 64 | 72 | 65 | 73 | 70 | Method 2 | 70 | 79 | 75 | 71 | 77 | 78 | 78 | 61 | 64 | 73 | 67 | 73 | 69 |
The Slovenian is the second talent we have brought in this season and is a rider who can be a fantastic stage racer for us in the future. If his development goes to plan he should max at age 26 which will mean we can then train him to be a world beater. We are currently undecided as to how we will develop him but he hope that he and Mas will enjoy growing alongside each other. His wage is slightly higher than Mas at 230,000 but this is because he has the potential to be a slightly better rider so we were happy to let him take the extra 30,000 wage. We look forward to his development!

I would probably go for the 3rd option of making him:
68 | 79 | 77 | 67 | 75 | 76 | 78 | 61 | 64 | 75 | 71 | 75 | 65 |
Almost the same physical stats. +2HI, +2ACC, +2DH, but -4TT. I think Novak isn't going to be a GC rider with a TT to make him win over others no matter how you train him. His TT stat is all about limiting losses. So I would definately make him stronger in other terrains, so he can gain time, instead of just limiting losses.

Level 1->2 would make sense to do GT IMO, as he won't gain more than +1HI in either case.

50k Cobblers Everywhere...!
The transfer window has just closed. Less than 12 hours ago, we were priced out of a French talent and so we made the decision to sign not one, not two, but 7 riders! It may come as a bit of a surprise but all of the riders specialise in the cobbles, all 7 riders are better than our previous best cobbler (which isn't hard to do in all honesty).
People throughout the cycling world may be questioning my sanity at this point but we are riding in a couple of races this season which have cobbles in them and so having 350k wage cap to cover a team that could scrape some points together was seen as a solution to the problem of needing a rider and actually wanting to get something out of it.
Some may be wondering why I am straying from the Basque/Spanish focus but there is a simple explanation. 1 of the 7 riders signed is Spanish and 1 is French which follows our focus, 1 is Italian and we already have 2 strong Italian riders in the team so they will fit in well. The other 4 are Belgian which is of no surprise as Belgium tends to produce the better cobbled riders and we do already have 3 other Belgian riders.
It is worth noting that 5 of the 7 riders are aged 28 or under which means they could potentially be with the team next season and give us a base for a competitive cobble team in whatever division we are racing in. Two of them are also yet to be maxed so we'll see how that one goes.

7 Cobblers? On a Spanish team? This manager must be mad! All joking aside though mate, hopefully Turgot will do better for you than he did for me last year down in the CT, though I doubt it, and they should definitely provide a base for you to develop a cobbled classics section to your squad. Novak looks like he could be a brilliant domestique or leader in the future for you, if his training goes to plan, best of luck for the season ahead! |

Definitely this. Novak trained as Climberv1 would be so much stronger than every other training. I didn't look at the exact values so it might be worth using sth else for the first season as SotD suggested but ignoring his hill stat would be a waste of talent imo.

Vuelta Wildcard Secured!
The Euskaltel team management are very pleased to announce that Euskaltel has secured one of the two wildcards for the Spanish GT.
We participated in the Tour de France a couple of seasons ago and it was a race that has not left memory as Rafael Valls finished 12th in the GC, Arnold Jeannesson won stage 17 from the breakaway in a photo finish, David López Garcia was outsprinted on stage 12 as he finished 2nd from the breakaway and was just caught by the eventual GC winner as he finished 2nd on stage 16. The team also got involved in numerous other breakaways.
This year's Vuelta only clashes with two races, one is the Olympia's Tour which will be a sprinter fest with TTs and the other is a one day race. This means that we will likely try sending J.J. Lobato to his home GT where he'll have the freedom to try and jump on a train. The lack of clashes with Mountainous or Hilly races means we will likely be able to send a strong climbing team with a few puncheurs and breakaway specialists to go stage hunting. Our goal in the race will be to pick up a stage win and hopefully JVdB can try get a Top 15 in the GC.

The season is almost underway and it’s about time that we preview our first month of what will be yet another exciting year for the Euskaltel team. We only have one race in January so without further ado.
Tour Down Under
Squad:
Damiano Caruso
Romain Zingle
Nacer Bouhanni
Olivier Le Gac
Juan Jose Lobato del Valle
Delio Fernandez
Domen Novak
Enric Mas
We will be sending a strong team to Australia in a race where we believe we can find some success. In the GC we have a trio of Caruso (winner of Stage 3 here last season), Zingle and Le Gac and we are confident that they'll be able to do well here. We have sent Bouhanni as our lead sprinter and he'll have the support of Lobato who is back in the team once again, we believe this sprint duo can deliver the results that they are capable of. Delio is here to hopefully show off his jersey in a breakaway. Novak and Mas are here for the experience that they require so we hope they enjoy it.

I firstly apologize for my lack of activity in this thread. I got caught up in a lot of University work and other extra-curricular work. I will make a concerted effort to improve this next season!
We had 2 Talents in our team last season and another 1 on the wage bill. All of them managed to make progress throughout the season and this is how they were trained.

Always cool to see longterm prospects developing throughout the levels with their team and i'm quite sure that you signed Borisavljevic in your debut season? It will be interesting to see if he can be a worthy asset for you. I'm a bit worried about his acceleration but at the very least he should be a great lieutenant for a climbing leader.

Borisavljevic will be particularly useful this coming year, but I like the long-term development plans of Euskaltel regards. It was good to have Mas and Novak on the Kulczyk Avenir squad, glad the two could spend some time leading our team through that experience

Three very cool talents for the future (I'm sure that Isostar will want to prise Novak away though ) and I love to see Cv1 getting some use
24/02/21 - kandesbunzler said “I don't drink famous people."
15/08/22 - SotD said "Your [jandal's] humour is overrated"
11/06/24 - knockout said "Winning is fine I guess. Truth be told this felt completely unimportant."
