IMO the Quick Step approach makes sense because they need to cut costs. Talents are cheap and hungry. De Plus, Mas, Vakoc etc What is probably really eating into the budget is having all those stage hunters and this insane depth of a classics squad. Maybe they won't be able to keep them long-term but at least the talents have largely freedom in the stage races and for the classics their squad is still one of the best. Having Gaviria, Alaphilippe, Jungels, Viviani, Gilbert, Stybar and Terpstra (ugh) also takes quite some cut of the budget. Especially Alaphilippe, Jungels and Gaviria are just getting more expensive throughout the years. With Gilbert they also have the most known belgian rider next to GVA, so that's great for the sponsor. I could well imagine that Alaphilippe, Gaviria and Gilbert take up most of the freed budget from the Boonen departure and Martin transfer.
It's just a shame that we never got the Alaphilippe-Gilbert-Martin super squad hitting Valverde with everything they got in the Ardennes.

Wow they really investing into the future, Van Baarle has potential to be a regular Top 3 Ronde contestant. Kwiatek, Stannard, Rowe, Van Baarle and mountain goat Moscon ...solid set-up for the pavé

→ Éric Marcotte to UHC
→ The team of Contador & Basso, Polartec-Kometa, is progressing. Here are the first riders.
Miguel Angel Ballesteros
Juan Camacho
Isaac Canton
Patrick Gamper
Michele Gazzoli
Matteo Moschetti
Michel Ries
Diego Pablo Sevilla
Gamper led the Tour de l'Avenir for two days. He also finished 3rd of the Grand Prix Judendorf, and 6th of the European ITT Championship. Very polyvalent.
Ries finished 19th of the Tour de l'Avenir. He seems to have a decent level in ITT.

Everybody has a plan until they get punched in the mouth.

South African Willie Smit, who was part of this year's WC's breakaway, has signed for Katusha.

Also, Matvey Mamykin won't renew his contract, reducing to just 2, I think, the number of Russians on what used to be an almost Russian team. |

Antunes to CCC seems pretty nice. On some Polish cycling forum there were thinking when will CCC start announcing 2018 signings. Last year it was on 12th of October, so they were expecting any news in about a week. Also - I don't know from where - but there are rumours that it's one of 3 "big" transfers. |
