Season has started already with some events. MVDP has already taken to winning again, which is no surprise of course. WVA to join him soon. The two poster boys of the sport are likely to do what they have done best in past years: Dominate. Next to it, question is how guys like Van der Haar and Sweeck will develop.
There is also some change in broadcast. Apparently Eurosport has secured the rights to the World Cup for 4 years. So if you have the Eurosport player, you may get Kirby mispronouncing Mathieu Van der Poel or Laurens Sweeck. This however may mean that the UCI Eurosport will be blocked.
First UCI World Cup event is set for today in Iowa City. Last year, Wout Van Aert won the race, but I think MVDP was injured/recovering back then and didn't even make the trip to the States.

I would say that the one with the least injuries will win most. Also watch out for the Telenet combo VdHaar/Aerts and Nys as manager. If they work togetjer well, they could get a few nice wins.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

What happened on the first lap? Managed to miss what will probably decide this race.

Any road cyclist should be thankful for every year that VDP decides to focus on CX and MTB.

So I just looked at the schedule, which races are WVA and VDP racing apart from the World Cup races? If you are new to it its pretty confusing I must admit |

Superprestige and Bpost Trofee (DVV trofee now apparently)
This is a better calender for the real races:

Thanks, so the biggest names are basically riding all those races? |

Well Van Aert will ride only around 30 races so not all of them but World Cup, Superprestige and DVV Trofee are the 3 big regularity competitions so they need to participate in all the races to win them. Most of them are also the biggest races historically (along with Overijse which is generally considered the oldest race (Mother of all crosses)on the calender and has never been part of any regularity competition).
Biggest races in Octobre are Gieten, Zonhoven and Koksijde.
Zonhoven is a newer race but has an incredible piece of parcours called the 'Put' (a sort of bowl/dune):
The closest fight between Wout and Mathieu was there last year.

Anybody planning to attend the World Championships in Valkenburg? I have seen the WC in Tabor which was lots of fun. I would love to spend a weekend there again and seeing VDP win in his home country.

As far as I know, VDP is targeting the MTB Olympic Games in Tokyo and wants to switch to the road afterwards.

VDP won Trek CX Cup in Wisconin ahead of Toon Aerts and Vincent Baestaens. Looks like the form is right to take the second World Cup win tomorrow in Waterloo. It should be a nice catch after the Road Race World Championships.

Domination by Mathieu. Even more awesome is Jens Voigt commenting.

There's some comedic gold in there.
So far, Mathieu is in a league of his own, but it is to be expected because he had a pretty busy season. I hope he takes some rest so that he will be fit enough for Valkenburg. Season is short but intense with little time for recuperation.

Van Aert isn't taking the transition to the road very well. He still looks tired from his (very successfull) summer campaign while also preparing for the spring classics. Mathieu looks a lot fresher.
Changed my sig, this was getting absurd.

Is WVA targetting the spring classics? IMO he (and VDP) could have a major impact on them, similiar to Alaphilippe who suddenly scored great results and was top-notch ever since. I think for WVA and VDP there are easily the same break-through performances likely but they will need to make the road their priority.
