Naesen, GVA, Gilbert, Wellens, Stuyven, Teuns... unreal amount of quality indeed. I hope they race opportunistic and smart and not like in Doha where they delivered Sagan to the line.

Should GVA become World Champion, Velo d'Or is going to be interesting. GVA would have won the biggest one-day races (WC, Roubaix), whilst Froome won biggest stage race and third biggest but with nothing else whilst GVA has many top performances and wins in spring classics, from strade to amstel etc.

Same situation for Kwiatek and Gilbert honestly, Gilbert has AGR and RVV and Kwiatek has MSR, Strade Bianche and San Sebastian, while both have a host of other results.

True, plus Kwiatek had an amazing Tour and that as a domestique. Still, I would rate GVA's performance above theirs, even if his Tour was subpar. Gilbert's solo of 50k surely is also one for the ages though. At the end of the day, I guess it's also down to preferences but that spring run of GVA was just amazing and phenomal in my eyes: Omloop 1st, Strade 2nd, 1st E3, 1st GW, 2nd RVV, 1st Roubaix. So close to flawless.

Meh... At least better than Kristoff. I fear EBH would be sacrificed one way or the other like always, its really disappointing.
Honestly as long it is a good race, especially compared to the last few WCs which have been very bad, I dont give a rats ass who is winning. I just want to see selective racing, preferably in the rain and wind! |

True, Ponferrada, Richmond, Doha.. all with some nice bits of action here and there but nothing particularly exciting. Firenze was really good tho.

Tom Boonen's favourite is Tim Wellens, thats not too bad of a WC. If it rains he's certainly also one of mine, but he still has to show something in such a long race on the absolute biggest level. |

Ponferrada was decent, but the Spaniards messed it up big time by creating such a route when they had Purito, Valv and Contador in their prime or very close to it. Would at least have expected a harder route, not necessarily so hard as Firenze 13 which was a great race. History shows us that on such routes you get the absolute best racing, Mendrisio 2009 also springs to mind. And of course the Olympic Games. Basically, the harder course, the less control and the better racing. Then you have other boring races such as the Worlds in NL in 2012 or the travesty of a race in Denmark in 2011.
Richmond 15 was kinda trash since the route was designed poorly such as the only place to attack was late on the last lap due to the long flat section. And Doha 16, yeah, no comments.
Bergen looks decent on paper, its better than the last two courses, better than 11 in Copenhagen and 12 in Valkenburg, I think Ponferrada is kinda similar. But the I am really looking forward to obviously is next year, a proper 270 km one day race in the mountains. |

This year there is a lot of places to attack, if you can break free over Salmon Hill, you get a long fast downhill until you hit the Cobbles at the foot of Fløyen. A great place to try something.

Yes, as I have already shared a couple of times, it's my hometown and if they use all the potential of steep inner city ramps (Hötting, Bergisel, Hungerburg) and may even take on a full mountain before (Kühtai, Rettenbacher Ferner, Axams multiple times), this could turn into a fantastic race. I'd love if they go the longer road up Axams, then head down into Innsbruck to ride up the narrow streets of Hötting and that multipe times. Well anyway, my dad met the city official responbile for the event a few weeks ago, and he on the said whilst discussing some issues, that I'd take holiday to volunteer for a week. So well, who knows what I might end up doing but when my favourite sporthosts the world championships in my hometown I definitely have to help.
